Auburn ends season at No. 4 in USA TODAY Coaches Poll after March Madness The Tigers close its best season in history as the No. 4 team in the nation.
The 2024-25 college basketball season has concluded, but there is one more USA TODAY Coaches Poll to be released. Where did the Auburn Tigers fall in the final poll? Auburn stays at No. 4 after their Final Four appearance that resulted in a 79-73 loss to the eventual National Champions the Florida Gators. Ahead of the Tigers are the Florida Gators (No.1), the Houston Cougars (No.2), and the Duke Blue Devils (No.3).
It was a historic season for the Auburn Tigers where they spent several weeks as the No.1 team in college basketball with more Quad 1 wins than any other team in the country. Auburn ended the season with a 32-6 record as the winningest team in program history. Despite being in a tough SEC that placed 14 teams in the NCAA Tournament, the Tigers clinched the SEC Regular Season Championship with two games remaining on the schedule.
This team was loaded with seniors and veterans led by SEC Player of the Year Johni Broome, five-year player Dylan Cardwell, and defensive specialist Denver Jones. Those are just to name a few. Auburn will look different for the 2025-26 season but hope to have some contributors back. Chad Baker-Mazara has teased a return, and Chaney Johnson could still have some eligibility. A big boost for next season will be if freshman guard Tahaad Pettiford returns. He did declare for the NBA Draft but is keeping his NCAA eligibility.
The SEC finished with eight teams in the final USA TODAY Coaches Poll. Behind Auburn is Tennessee (No.5), Alabama (No.6), Kentucky (No.14), Ole Miss (No.18), Texas A&M (No. 19), and Arkansas (No.25). The Missouri Tigers dropped out of the rankings. It was not just a historic season for Auburn, but the conference as a whole with 14 teams making the NCAA Tournament.

First but not last: 2026 wide receiver commits to Alabama over SEC, Big Ten schools
Alabama football has picked up its first commitment at wide receiver from the class of 2026. Three-star Tennessee receiver Owen Cabell announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide on Monday. Listed as 6-foot-3, 201 pounds, Cabell chose Alabama over a number of SEC and Big Ten schools, including Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Vanderbilt. In the past week alone, Alabama has landed 5-star EDGE Xavier Griffin from Gainesville (Ga.), 5-star running back Ezavier Crowell (Jackson, Ala.), 4-star tight end Mack Sutter from Dunlap, Ill., and 3-star recruits Javari Barnett (running back, Tampa), Rihyael Kelley (safety, Cincinnati) and Zay Hall (linebacker; Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa). After the Crimson Tide's recent run in recruiting, 247Sports ranks Alabama with the No. 8 overall class in 2026. On3 has them at No. 9. Cabell is ranked as the No. 939 overall recruit in 2026 by On3, which lists him as the nation's 145th wide receiver. He recently clocked a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash, according to a video shared to social media. At wide receiver, DeBoer and staff are also targeting 5-star in-state recruit Cederian Morgan from Alexander City and 3-star Sunshine State target Brian Williams out of Orlando. Utah Jazz reveal former Wisconsin basketball star John Tonje's jersey number
Former Wisconsin basketball star John Tonje will wear #17 for the Utah Jazz throughout the 2025-26 season. Tonje, who was drafted by the Jazz with the No. 53 overall pick of the 2025 NBA draft, will be the team's first #17 in five years. Forward Ed Davis, who enjoyed a 12-year NBA career, last wore the jersey number for the franchise in 2020. Throughout his collegiate career, Tonje wore #1 with Colorado State from 2019-23, #5 with Missouri during the 2022-23 slate and #9 with Wisconsin during the 2024-25 season, the year during which the 6-foot-5 wing rose to stardom. The second-team All-America and first-team All-Big Ten team member burst onto the national scene in several high-profile contests during his final year of college, including during UW's NCAA Tournament defeat at the hands of the BYU Cougars in Denver, Colorado. Tonje dropped a game-best 37 points, the most by any Badger in an NCAA Tournament game ever. Across 37 games, the Nebraska native averaged 19.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game off 46.5% shooting from the field, 39% from 3 and 91% from the free-throw line. He dropped 41 points against No. 9 Arizona in November, 32 against No. 7 Purdue on the road in February and another 32 against the Michigan State Spartans in the 2025 Big Ten Tournament. The former Badger will now take his talents to Salt Lake City, the same area where he will begin his NBA Summer League journey. The Jazz kick-start their summer slate with a three-day circuit at the Jon M. Huntsman Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, from July 5-7 before making the trek to Las Vegas the following week. There, Tonje will sport #17 against the Philadelphia 76ers, Memphis Grizzlies and Oklahoma City Thunder a week before the Jazz square off against the New Orleans Hornets (July 11), Golden State Warriors (July 13), San Antonio Spurs (July 14) and Washington Wizards (July 16) in Las Vegas. Forward Khamil Pierre no longer member of Vanderbilt women's basketball team
Khamil Pierre is no longer a member of the Vanderbilt women's team, it was announced. The rising junior averaged 20.4 points and 9.6 rebounds this past season. The forward was the team's second-leading scorer. Advertisement Vanderbilt coach Shea Ralph put out a statement on June 30. "Khamil is a great player and I have no doubt she will have success in the future," Ralph stated. "Ultimately, it was determined it would be best for Khamil and our program to go in different directions. We wish her the best of luck." Pierre started and played in 32 games this past season and helped lead the Commodores to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances. She recorded a career-high 42 points against Evansville on Dec. 14, 2024. In the 2023-24 season, she was a five-time SEC Freshman of the Week and named to the SEC All-Freshmen Team.
