Hale Nerenki school all set for centenary celebrations in Nov

Time of Indiaa day ago
Mangaluru: The govt Higher Primary School in Hale Nerenki, Kadaba taluka, is all set for its centenary celebrations in Nov this year. To mark the occasion, the school's centenary committee, alumni association, SDMC, and the teaching staff have all joined hands.
The school completed 100 years in 2023, but the centenary celebrations, having a budget of around Rs 60 lakh, were delayed due to financial constraints. The decks are now clear for the bash to be held in the last week of Nov.
In 1923, the institution had a humble beginning from a small building owned by the Nerenki Guthu family to address the educational needs of the people of Hale Nerenki. In 1925, it was handed over to the taluka board.
Later, in 1962, it was upgraded to a higher primary school, with a further upgrade coming in 2007.
However, student enrolment at the school has seen a steady decline. From 410 at one point, student numbers have now come down to 109.
Shantappa Y Gowda, the headmaster, though, sounded an optimistic note, claiming that the Hale Nerenki school is at par with private schools in the vicinity in terms of the quality of education.

The school, built on 1.91 acres, includes a playground, computer room, library, provides clean drinking water, has well-furnished classrooms, and an auditorium. The theatre and staff room have been renovated.
Known for its sporting achievements, the school was built under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, with Ramakunja gram panchayat as an active patron and several organisations supporting it through their corporate social responsibility funding. Various organisations have also been generous with donations to support it.

White grub infestation in Dharmapuri sugarcane fields

DHARMAPURI: Sugarcane fields across Dharmapuri district have slowly started to turn a yellowish brown hue over the past few weeks. While one might assume this to be caused by lack of nutrients or due to arid, dry climatic conditions prevailing in Dharmapuri, but this is not the case. The aforementioned sign is one of the symptoms of the damage done by white grubs, the larvae of scarab beetles. Farmers have blamed the spread of the insect on the mills and the agriculture department's failure to identify the infestation, which is spread across the district. White grubs afflict the root of sugarcane. Speaking to TNIE, S Chinnasamy, a sugarcane farmer, said, "The two mills in the district, the Dharmapuri Cooperative Sugarmill (DCS) and the Subramaniya Siva Cooperative Sugarmill (SSCS), have affixed a total target of 12,000 acres for cane cultivation across the district. White grubs have been feeding off the roots of the sugarcane, leading to the wilting of our sugarcane. Farmers stand to lose their sugarcanes. The situation is dire, especially considering the investments we have put into the cultivation. Each farmer has invested somewhere between Rs 20,000 per acre for cultivation, and if the infestation is not curbed, we stand to face massive losses". G Murali, a farmer from Morappur, said, "The white grub infestation should have been identified much earlier. Even the fields cultivated by the SSCS are affected. The lack of timely awareness is the cause of the infestation. While it is true that we have faced these insects in the past, most farmers are struggling to control the spread of insects. So it is only a matter of time till we lose our crops".

'Ask daddy for a bumblebee': Toddler after surviving 18-storey fall; father honours tree with red flower

AI Image used for Representative purpose China witnessed a miracle when a boy, who is just three years old, miraculously survived an extraordinary 18-storey fall from his residential building, with a tree breaking his fall. The event occurred on July 15 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, southeastern China, while the young boy was under his grandparents' supervision, South China Morning Post reported. The grandparents had stepped out briefly to purchase groceries, believing the child was asleep. They secured the flat's door to ensure his safety. Upon waking, the child entered the bathroom, which had an unprotected window. He climbed onto the toilet and subsequently the window, from which he fell. A tree intercepted his fall, enabling his survival. His father later placed a large red flower on the tree in appreciation. A passing resident discovered him and recorded a video, sharing it with the property management. The father, Zhu, initially doubted the 18-storey fall until viewing surveillance footage. He explained that an open window on the 17th floor altered his son's falling path, directing him towards the tree that cushioned his landing. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Unsold 2021 Cars Now Almost Free - Prices May Surprise You Unsold Cars | Search Ads Learn More Undo At the hospital, staff termed his survival miraculous. The incident sparked online discussions, with comments ranging from criticism of parental oversight to expressions of relief at the boy's survival.
