Marites Buenafe is a 62-year-old Kentucky native traveling on the Norwegian Bliss in Alaska She was reported missing on Tuesday, July 1, after not returning to the cruise ship from a hike Security cameras last spotted her at the top of Mount Roberts TramwayA 62-year-old cruise passenger is missing after embarking on a solo hike in Alaska. According to a bulletin from the Alaska State Troopers, at around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, Marites Buenafe texted her family to say she was heading up the Mount Roberts Tramway with plans to hike Gold Ridge to Gastineau Peak. Her cruise ship, the Norwegian Bliss, was set to depart Juneau at 1:30 p.m. The Kentucky native was on the trip alone, according to the Juneau Police Department. She was last spotted by security cameras at the top of Mount Roberts Tramway, departing the buildings around the time she sent a text to her family, the bulletin explains. A spokesperson for Norwegian Cruise Line told PEOPLE that when Buenafe did not return to the ship by the all-aboard time, she was reported missing to local state troopers. "An active search is ongoing, and we are providing assistance to local authorities as appropriate. Our CARE team is providing support to the guest's family and our thoughts are with them during this difficult time," the spokesperson said. The search for Buenafe began with the Alaska Wildlife Troopers Helo 5 and a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter conducting aerial searches of the area, according to a dispatch from the Alaska Department of Public Safety. While the search was paused overnight, the Juneau Mountain Rescue and Southeast Alaska Dogs for Organized Ground Search resumed efforts on Wednesday, July 2, with over a dozen professional volunteers utilizing drones and K-9 Units. Although weather conditions allowed for limited helicopter searches late in the day, the Alaska Department of Public Safety stated that ground and aerial search teams would continue their search on Thursday. PEOPLE reached out to the Juneau Police Department and the Alaska Department of Public Safety for additional comment. Buenafe is a physician at UK HealthCare in Lexington, Ky., according to The New York Times. The healthcare system's website shows that she received her degree from Case Western Reserve University and completed her residency in family medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. According to the U.S. News and World Report website, Buenafe has been in practice for more than 20 years. The Alaska State Troopers report that she is 5 feet tall, weighs 118 pounds, has black hair, and brown eyes. Insider shares new details on Steelers, Dolphins blockbuster trade
More details from the Steelers' blockbuster acquisitions of TE Jonnu Smith and Jalen Ramsey have now been revealed. On a recent episode of The Rich Eisen Show, insider Tom Pelissero explained that the Dolphins were almost forced into a player-for-player type trade scenario — as any trade partner would be more willing to take Ramsey's expensive contract if Miami took a high-salary player in return. After trade negotiations with the Rams and Chargers fell through, Pelissero pointed to the perfect scenario that presented itself with Pittsburgh's Minkah Fitzpatrick — but it may have come down to the Pro Bowl tight end: "It just so happened that the Dolphins also had a situation with Jonnu Smith — who happens to be Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's favorite tight end — where he, too, became available," Pelissero said. "The Steelers had a guy in Minkah Fitzpatrick, who's due $15.5 million this season — his ball production in particular over the last couple of years has not been the same. Minkah is still only 28, but maybe not quite the same player he was the first time around in Miami. "[The Steelers] get a more versatile player, albeit one who's being paid more, in Jalen Ramsey. They think they can do a lot of different things with him, and a bonus out of that trade is they get a guy in Jonnu Smith, who's coming off a productive season in Miami." While some have criticized the Steelers for exchanging aging DBs, one has to wonder — after hearing Pelissero's insight — if Pittsburgh would have even entertained trading Fitzpatrick unless Smith came along as well.
