Men's College World Series: LSU dominates Rocco's Jell-O shot challenge again; Tigers now hold top 2 totals
LSU beat the competition by nearly 43,000 shots. Fellow MCWS finalist Coastal Carolina finished second with 9,117. Arkansas was the third of the eight fan bases in Omaha to crack the 9,000 mark, downing 9,075 shots.

When Rocco's Pizza and Cantina posted the final results Sunday night, LSU finished with 52,390 shots. That fell well short of the record 68,888 Jell-O shots set in 2023. But Tigers fans now hold the top two marks in the contest's six-year history.
As the second fan base competing for a national championship, Coastal Carolina rallied from fourth place as of Friday night to finish second, going from 7,509 shots to 9,117.
While that number should increase during the finals, Rocco's Pizza and Cantina — which hosts the competition each year — didn't expect to see a ton of movement on its board Thursday or Friday with no games scheduled.
LSU finished off a two-game sweep with a 5-3 win on Sunday, led by Derek Curiel and Chris Stanfield each driving in two runs, while pitcher Anthony Eyanson notched nine strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings. The Tigers won Game 1, 1-0, behind a dominant performance from pitcher Kade Anderson, who threw eight scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts.

Rocco's Pizza and Cantina in Omaha started the Jell-O shot challenge in 2019. During the College World Series, fans of any of the eight teams in the tournament can buy $5 Jell-O shots as a show of support for their team. The fan base that consumes the most Jell-O shots "wins" the competition. Rocco's does donate a portion of each Jell-O shot to food banks.

LSU is no stranger to dominating the event. The school holds Rocco's all-time record. In 2023, the LSU fan base consumed an incredible 68,888 Jell-O shots. Tigers fans gave themselves an opportunity to top that mark with their team in the 2025 College World Series finals, but the record seems untouchable.
Yet the school can't be counted out for future seasons. Even if a new record wasn't set in 2025, LSU has a young team that could return to Omaha next year and beyond. You can bet Tigers fans will do their best to dominate the leaderboard and pursue a record with each College World Series visit.

Brad Crawford of CBS Sports believes Auburn will enjoy early success before dropping its first game of the 2025 season. The SEC is considered one of the toughest conferences in college football, and it is expected that every program within the league will stumble at least once this season. Unfortunately, for the third straight season under Hugh Freeze, the Tigers will drop their SEC opener. The Tigers have had rough outings in SEC openers under Hugh Freeze, losing each by 10 or more points. Auburn fell on the road at Texas A&M in 2023, 27-10, and followed suit in 2024 by dropping its conference opener to Arkansas, 24-14. This season, Auburn will look to end the trend and gain momentum heading into another road game at Texas A&M to close the September slate. If Crawford's projection of Auburn stumbling at Oklahoma is true, then the Tigers will have a shot to bounce back three weeks later at home against rival Georgia. Crawford forecasts the Tigers to stun Georgia on Oct. 11 at Jordan-Hare Stadium, which would "rattle" the SEC at its midway point. Auburn's bye week ahead of playing Georgia could benefit them in addition to the game being played in the primetime slot. Anticipation of Auburn's 2025 season will fade on Friday, Aug. 29, when the Tigers kick off the season at Baylor. Tony Vitello discusses Chase Burns' pitching career ahead of MLB Speedway Classic
Cincinnati (58-53) and Atlanta (46-63) will conclude a three-game series Saturday. Saturday's series finale will be contested at Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tennessee. First pitch between the Braves and Reds is slated for 7:15 p.m. EDT and the National League contest will be televised by Fox. Former Tennessee pitcher Chase Burns (0-3) is projected to start for Cincinnati in the MLB Speedway Classic. He played for the Vols from 2022-23 before transferring to Wake Forest in 2024. Tennessee won the 2022 SEC Tournament and regular-season championship, and advanced to the 2023 College World Series. Burns was selected No. 2 overall in the first round of the 2024 MLB draft by the Reds. Ahead of Saturday's matchup at Bristol Motor Speedway, Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello appeared on MLB Network in Bristol and discussed his former pitcher. Vitello was asked what he thought of Burns when he saw him for the first time and what he thinks about him now in MLB.
