Media: US DF won't attend Defense Contact Group meeting on Ukraine
Washington - Saba:
Western media outlets reported, citing a US official, that US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will not attend the meeting of the International Military Assistance Coordination Group for Ukraine, scheduled for Wednesday.
The Associated Press quoted the unidentified official as saying that Hegseth will also not participate via videoconference and will arrive in Brussels late Wednesday, after the Contact Group meeting concludes.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said Tuesday that Hegseth was scheduled to travel to Belgium and France this week to participate in the NATO Defense Ministers' meeting and Victory Day commemorations. However, it was not stated whether the Pentagon chief planned to attend the Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting, scheduled for June 4 at NATO headquarters.
This is the first time since the United States formed the Defense Contact Group on Ukraine that a US Secretary of Defense will miss the group's meeting, which will be attended by more than 50 other defense officials.

Women's Sector in Sana'a launches Ashura activities & events
Sana'a - Saba: The Women's Sector in Sana'a organized on Sunday an expanded women's meeting to launch the activities of Ashura (the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him) for the year 1447 A.H., in all districts and neighborhoods under the slogan "Heehat minna al-Dhulhah." At the launch, the General Mobilization Officer Ibtisam Al-Mahtouri stressed the importance of commemorating this anniversary, to inspire lessons from the courage and generosity of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, and to follow his approach and sacrifice in real and responsible action to confront the tyrants of the age. She touched on the injustice practiced by the Zionist entity and the US, Britain and Western countries against the Palestinian people, which requires the nation to stand firmly against this injustice and support the Palestinian people by all available means. For her part, Hanan Al-Azzi, head of the cultural unit, reviewed the guidelines for commemorating this painful anniversary for the Islamic nation. She explained that the results and consequences of the nation's neglect of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) were disastrous, and that the nation still lacks the Hussaini stance to take revenge against injustice and tyranny, and that everyone must adopt this courageous stance. American Senator: Trump plans new sanctions against Russia
Washington - Saba: American Senator Lindsey Graham announced that President Donald Trump believes "the time has come to pass a bill imposing new sanctions against Russia." Graham claimed that the U.S. Senate "will begin discussing the new sanctions bill against Russia in July." During an interview with ABC News on Sunday, Graham commented on Trump's stance regarding the sanctions bill, saying: "Yesterday was the first time the president [Trump] told me, while we were playing golf, that the time has come to move forward with passing a bill on new sanctions against Russia." The U.S. senator further explained the legislative plans, stating: "The day after the July recess ends (starting July 7), we [the U.S. Senate] intend to move forward with discussing the bill." Meanwhile, leaders of the 27 EU member states, meeting at the Brussels summit on June 26, agreed to extend sanctions against Russia for an additional six months, according to Western news agency reports citing diplomatic sources. The agency's report stated: "The leaders of the 27 EU member states, gathered at the Brussels summit, agreed to extend sanctions against Russia for another six months." Moscow has repeatedly emphasized its ability to adapt to the pressures caused by Western sanctions, which have been imposed and tightened over several years. Russian officials have stated that the West lacks the courage to admit the failure of its sanctions policy against Russia. Some voices within Western countries have also questioned the effectiveness of these measures. It is worth noting that the West has escalated its punitive measures against Russia over the Ukraine crisis, leading to rising electricity, fuel, food prices in Europe and the United States.
