Body of UniSZA student found in Setiu picnic tragedy
PETALING JAYA : A search and rescue team have found the body of a Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) student who was reported missing and feared drowned yesterday.
The body of Abed Mifzal Azman, 22, from Johor, was found at 9.30pm, Berrnama reported.
He was believed to have been swept away by a water surge while bathing with six friends in the Lata Payung Forest Eco Park picnic area in Bandar Permaisuri, Setiu in Terengganu yesterday.
According to Setiu district police chief Zain Deris, the victim was found about 1km from where he was reported missing.
He added that the body had been sent to the Setiu Hospital forensic unit for a post-mortem.
'The victim's six friends managed to escape, but the victim was swept away by the strong current,' he was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, Zain advised the public not to do any activities in the river or at recreational forest areas in Setiu for now, due to the uncertain weather conditions and risks of the water surge phenomenon
Last Monday, Wan Ahmad Irfan Wan Abdullah Thani, 24, drowned at Lata Changkah. He and five others were taking a dip in the middle section of the waterfall's cascade when six of them started struggling against the currents.
His body was later found at a depth of 4.5m.

However, the man was then told he had to make further payments to withdraw the profits. Realising he had been scammed, the victim lodged a police report on July 10 at the Kluang Police Station. (Bernama pic) KUALA LUMPUR : A newborn baby was found abandoned by the roadside at Taman Cempaka in Bukit Selambau, Kuala Muda, Kedah, yesterday morning. Police said the baby boy was found naked and placed on the gravel by the roadside, Bernama reported. Kuala Muda police chief Hanyan Ramlan said they received a call at 9.55am. 'A resident who was hanging clothes heard cries and began searching the area. She was shocked to discover the baby by the roadside. 'Neighbours who heard the woman's screams helped to move the baby to a safer spot before contacting the police,' he said in a statement. Hanyan said there were no surveillance cameras in the area. 'The baby was taken to the emergency department of Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani for an examination. 'A medical officer confirmed the baby was in a stable condition, with only minor scratches on the right eye and right side of the body,' he was quoted as saying. He said police are tracking down a 17-year-old teenager to assist in the investigation. 'A 19-year-old female, believed to be his partner, has been admitted to the hospital for further examination and treatment,' he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for abandonment of a child.

Johor Bomba calls off search after CCTV shows no one fell into sea following JB motorbike collision
JOHOR BARU, July 13 — The Johor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) today confirmed that none of the victims in the two-motorcycle crash near Pos Malaysia along Jalan Bazar Karat last night had fallen into the nearby seawater channel, as initially believed. Operations Commander PBK I Firdaus Abdullah said a final review of CCTV footage from the Johor Bahru City Council showed that only one victim was thrown from the impact.
