The 50-share NSE Nifty jumped 122.30 points or 0.49 per cent to 25,090.70. The 50-issue index had slid below the 25,000 mark to settle near a month's low on Friday. Snapping the two-day falling streak, the 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 442.61 points or 0.54 per cent to settle at 82,200.34. During the day, it surged 516.3 points or 0.63 per cent to 82,274.03. Mumbai, Jul 21 (PTI) Benchmark BSE Sensex surged by 442 points while Nifty closed above the 25,000 level on Monday following buying in blue-chip private banking shares HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank after their quarterly earnings. Firm trend in Asian markets and fresh foreign fund inflows also supported the markets. Among Sensex firms, Eternal surged the most by 5.38 per cent post its first quarter numbers. ICICI Bank jumped 2.76 per cent after the company posted a 15.9 per cent jump in its consolidated net profit for the June quarter to Rs 13,558 crore compared to Rs 11,696 crore in the year-ago period. HDFC Bank climbed 2.19 per cent despite the firm reporting a 1.31 per cent decline in its consolidated net profit to Rs 16,258 crore for the June 2025 quarter. Mahindra & Mahindra, Bharat Electronics, Kotak Mahindra Bank and Tata Motors were also among the gainers. However, India's most valuable company Reliance Industries declined 3.29 per cent even after the firm reported its highest-ever quarterly profit of Rs 26,994 crore for the April-June quarter, reflecting a growth of 78.3 per cent over the year-ago period, driven by consumer businesses and investment sales. HCL Tech, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Consultancy Services and ITC were also among the laggards. 'Positive results from banking majors supported the market to rebound after many days of consolidation. The market remains highly reactive to earnings, indicating that investors remain focused on the earnings front to aid valuation,' Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Investments Limited, said. The initial reaction to earnings from heavyweights like Reliance, ICICI Bank, and HDFC Bank led to sharp swings, Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd, said. The market currently reflects a tug-of-war between bulls and bears, with the focus primarily on earnings for further direction, he added. The BSE midcap gauge climbed 0.55 per cent, while smallcap index ended flat, down 0.01 per cent. Among BSE sectoral indices, capital goods jumped 1.33 per cent, bankex (1.28 per cent), financial services (1.26 per cent), metal (0.98 per cent), commodities (0.73 per cent), auto (0.66 per cent) and consumer discretionary (0.63 per cent). Amazon Prime Day breaks records with 18,000 orders per minute in India

Amazon's latest Prime Day sale event broke records with over 18,000 orders per minute—a 50 per cent jump from 2024. Seventy per cent of new memberships came from smaller Indian cities. The e-commerce giant delivered thousands of items within four hours in major metros, with same-day delivery doubling year-over-year and two-day delivery to smaller cities rising by 80 per cent. 'Prime members purchased more items than any previous Prime Day shopping event, while we created new records on speed with the highest number of same-day deliveries,' said Akshay Sahi, Head of Amazon Prime, Delivery, and Returns Experiences, India and Emerging Markets. 'Thanks to our recent investment of ₹2,000 crore in the well-being of our associates and the scaling up of our operations, we were able to deliver even faster and safer this year.' Prime members shopped from thousands of new products launched by over 400 Indian and global brands, including Intel, Samsung, OnePlus, Bajaj, HP, BoAt, Puma, and Adidas. Purchases spanned smartphones, TVs, appliances, fashion, groceries, and home essentials. Compared to last year's Prime Day, smartphones saw high double-digit growth as Indians upgraded to flagship devices, driving up average selling prices across all city tiers. AI-enabled laptops, premium tablets, and health-focused wearables emerged as customer favourites, while premium audio segments achieved strong double-digit growth in Tier 2 cities. The home, kitchen, and outdoor category delivered its biggest Prime Day ever with 1.2X growth, supported by over 80 marquee brand launches. Fitness equipment sales surged 1.5X, with treadmill sales doubling, while furniture saw explosive growth with chairs and recliners achieving 10X increases. 'We also had a blockbuster Prime Day launch with our water purifiers, and it was a massive success,' said Arindam Paul, Founding Member and Chief Business Officer at Atomberg. Two-wheeler sales grew 1.9X across more than 500 cities, highlighting the expanding reach of online vehicle purchases beyond major metros. Eric Vas, President (Urbanite Business) at Bajaj Auto Ltd, said the company's latest offering, Chetak 3001, received an overwhelming response, becoming the No.1 best-selling electric scooter during Prime Day 2025. Beauty categories experienced exceptional growth, with skincare and colour cosmetics seeing 2X increases. Professional beauty services witnessed up to 3X growth, while Korean beauty brands saw up to 7X growth. Health-focused products gained momentum with whey protein sales increasing by over 80 per cent and coffee consumption growing 1.3X nationally, outpacing tea and growing 2X in Tier 2 cities. Shashi Kumar, the Chief Executive of Akshayakalpa Organic, reported significant gains, noting the company saw a remarkable 50 per cent growth in sales during Prime Day. Financing Fuels Premium Shift This surge reflects a broader trend where Amazon's financing options and exclusive content are enabling smaller Indian cities to drive premium consumption. For instance, 1 out of 4 spends this Prime Day were on EMI (equated monthly instalment), and 9 out of 10 EMI purchases were driven by No Cost EMI. The Premium Smartphone segment (priced higher than ₹30,000) witnessed over 60 per cent growth in value. Nearly 70 per cent of this growth came from Tier 2 and beyond cities. Amazon Fresh recorded its highest order volumes, with Tier 2+ cities leading 90 per cent growth, while daily essentials saw over 70 per cent of new customers coming from Tier 2 and 3 cities. This demonstrates Prime Day's expanding geographic reach. The Tier-2/3 city boom extended beyond consumers to sellers, with small and medium businesses seeing record participation. Notably, 68 per cent of these sellers were based in Tier 2 and 3 cities and beyond, while Amazon Business witnessed a 3X spike in new customer registrations during Prime Day, with 7X growth in Prime sign-ups.

Nifty reclaims 25,050 mark, buoyed by robust banking results

The domestic equity benchmarks ended higher today, reversing a two-day decline. Gains were driven largely by robust Q1 earnings from major private lenders HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank, which helped offset persistent global trade challenges. The Nifty closed above the 25,050 level, buoyed by private banks, financial services, and metals. The S&P BSE Sensex advanced 442.61 points or 0.54% to 82,200.34. The Nifty 50 index added 122.30 points or 0.49% to 25,090.70. In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rallied 0.55% and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index shed 0.01%. The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 1959 shares rose and 2188 shares fell. A total of 180 shares were unchanged. The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of the market's expectation of volatility over the near term, fell 1.66% to 11.20. Economy: India's forex reserves fell $3.04 billion to $699.74 billion for the week ending July 4, data by the Reserve Bank of India showed on Friday. For the week ending on July 4, foreign currency assets, a major component of the reserves, decreased $3.53 billion to $591.29 billion. Gold reserves were up by $342 million to stand at $84.5 billion during the week, the RBI said. The special drawing rights (SDR) were up $39 million to $18.86 billion. As per the data, India's reserve position with the IMF was also down $107 million at $4.73 billion in the reporting week. Numbers to Track: The yield on India's 10-year benchmark federal paper rose 0.11% to 6.309 from the previous close of 6.303. In the foreign exchange market, the rupee edged lower against the dollar. The partially convertible rupee was hovering at 86.3050 compared with its close of 86.1650 during the previous trading session. MCX Gold futures for 5 August 2025 settlement rose 0.51% to Rs 98,497. The US Dollar Index (DXY), which tracks the greenback's value against a basket of currencies, was down 0.19% to 98.27. The United States 10-year bond yield shed 0.47% to 4.443. In the commodities market, Brent crude for September 2025 settlement shed 62 cents or 0.89% to $70.14 a barrel. Global Markets: European shares tumbled on Monday as investors assess a range of corporate earnings and ongoing trade negotiations between the U.S and the European Union. Britains unemployment rate rose to 4.7% in the three months to May, its highest since 2021. Most Asian stocks ended higher after the Peoples Bank of China opted to leave its key loan prime rates unchanged, keeping the 1-year rate at 3.0% and the 5-year rate at 3.5%. This move provided a measure of stability in the region, even as broader market sentiment remained shaped by renewed concerns over global trade policy. Trade developments came back into focus over the weekend following strong signals from Washington. The White House reiterated its stance on tariffs, with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick designating August 1 as the definitive deadline for countries to begin paying newly announced tariffs. Still, Lutnick added that negotiations could continue beyond that date, suggesting a potential window for ongoing dialogue. In the U.S., major equity indices lost some ground on Friday as uncertainty around the Trump administrations trade strategy persisted. Reports indicated that President Trump remained intent on imposing a 15% to 20% levy on the European Union, even if a broader deal is reached, while the EU was said to be arguing for a 10% tariff in response. Despite continued statements from the White House about ongoing negotiations, the number of new trade deals announced remains notably lower than what Trump had promised earlier in the year. New Listing: Shares of Anthem Biosciences settled at Rs 730.35 on the BSE, representing a premium of 28.13% compared with the issue price of Rs 570. The scrip was listed at Rs 723.10, exhibiting a premium of 26.86% to the issue price. The stock has hit a high of Rs 746.70 and a low of Rs 723.05.
