Everyone knows O'Brien as a passionate and fiery coach, but a day spent alongside him on the Challenger 604 jet that flew him and the four players traveling to media day — Lewis Bond, Daveon Crouch, KP Price, and Logan Taylor — revealed his jovial, thoughtful, and sympathetic side.
'Seinfeld' and 'The Office' are two of his favorite shows, and Kramer and Michael Scott are his favorite characters. He's an avid reader who often juggles three books at a time. He cuts his sausage, egg, and cheese with a fork.

O'Brien sat back and let others approach during a hectic and fast-paced day at the Hilton Charlotte Uptown. When they did, he had thoughtful questions about family or summer travels.
'He sees everything,' said close friend
Boston College head coach Bill O'Brien completed 21 interviews throughout the ACC's football media day.

After collectively marveling at the hole-in-one, the Eagles boarded the plane in Bedford at 5:54 a.m. in a single-file line. O'Brien and Najarian sat in the front, the players scattered in the back joined by two staffers.
Some napped while others chatted, ate breakfast sandwiches, and ran through what they planned to say at the event. O'Brien used part of the plane ride to finalize his talking points and cement his knowledge of each player's background and development.
He asked creative producer Jordan Arnold to minimize the pictures of him throughout the day, if possible.
'You don't want this fat face,' he cracked.
O'Brien said he's going to the gym as much as he can and insisted he'll be down 30 pounds before the season opens against Fordham on Aug. 30.
As the plane approached landing, O'Brien tied his red Vineyard Vines tie to his white shirt, dark blue suit, and blue and white shoes. He did so from his seat — no mirror, in 15 seconds, on the first try.

'I'm a pro,' he said. 'It's not my first rodeo.'
Taylor and Price each emerged from the tiny bathroom in the back after changing, and O'Brien had quips ready. He said he had no idea how the 6-foot-7-inch, 308-pound lineman Taylor fit in there and that Price, a stylish safety, came out looking like a movie star.
'It wasn't that bad,' Taylor insisted.
At 7:56 a.m., O'Brien put on his sunglasses and shifted from Bill to Coach O'Brien.
He stepped outside at the executive terminal of Charlotte Douglas International Airport, where a sizable black van greeted the Eagles. Price took selfies outside as his teammates laughed. After a 24-minute ride, the BC contingent arrived at the hotel, took the elevator to the third floor, and sat in a largely empty room waiting for the next step.
Just before 9 a.m., a surprise visitor approached the table.

O'Brien beamed as he told him about his 155-yard hole-in-one. Belichick congratulated him and shared that he has one as well — that just so happened to be a 200-yarder. They lamented that they missed each other on Nantucket this year and promised to catch up there next summer.
As the conversation unfolded, the BC players tried to look at their phones and keep to themselves, yet inevitably stared at the rare scene unfolding in front of them.
'My skin is on fire right now,' whispered Crouch, a linebacker.

Four minutes later, longtime Clemson coach Dabo Swinney bounced over to the table to shake O'Brien's hand. O'Brien gushed about the hole-in-one again, to which Swinney replied that he didn't have one before veering the conversation to football.
'We're playing the Patriots organization in the month of October,' said Swinney, whose Tigers visit North Carolina (Oct. 4) and BC (Oct. 11) in consecutive weeks. 'Unbelievable.'
Next up was Drew Fabianich, the director of the Reese's Senior Bowl, who brought pamphlets to each of the players. O'Brien reminisced about his Senior Bowl triumph in 2018, when his team, led by Mike White, throttled Baker Mayfield's squad, 45-16. He said he reminds Mayfield every time he sees him.
After an hour-plus of schmoozing and reminiscing, O'Brien and the players took the podium at 10 a.m. and fielded questions centered predominantly around how the team can take the next step.
'Why not us?' said Bond, a wide receiver. 'Why can't it be us?'

O'Brien did an interview on ACC Network, then ventured to the lobby to conduct eight more, ranging from North Carolina Sports Network to the Louisville Courier Journal, across two hours.
He was ready for anything, from Belichick to Bond, operating on autopilot while also ensuring he gave detailed and specific answers.
'Sorry it's the wrong Bill,' O'Brien joked. 'It's the Irishman from Boston.'
O'Brien is a seasoned veteran at these types of events. He finds a way to remain genuine while also not saying anything controversial. Nothing fazes him, and he compliments interviewers when a question truly intrigues.
He texted his wife, Colleen, in between segments, then dutifully moved to the next obligation.

During one interview, he glanced at a text from Patriots coach
'Just call me Ace,' O'Brien said.
Then came more TV interviews, as O'Brien continued to cruise on an empty stomach. He conducted 21 over six hours, with just one bathroom break.
Finally, the day concluded at 4:04 p.m., and the players and O'Brien signed autographs before arriving at the van, where Chick-fil-A was waiting. They ran into Swinney again at the airport, and he asked Taylor to shrink a few inches before October.
After a hectic day, Bill O'Brien still carved out time to sign autographs outside the hotel in Charlotte, N.C.

The plane departed at 4:58 p.m. O'Brien's first yawn of the day came at 5:10 p.m., then he took a power nap for 25 minutes before perking up as the plane prepared to land.
'All right, guys,' he said when they hit the ground. 'See you Tuesday. Rock and roll.'
When a cart outside the plane only fit some of the group, O'Brien let Price, Taylor, Bond, and Crouch take the seats and chose to walk back himself.
Rejuvenated and ready to attack the next day with a similar vigor, he turned, offered a slight smile, and continued to move forward.
'Players first,' he said.

Glorious Goodwood racing tips: Best bets and odds for day one
Tuesday's Glorious Goodwood tips Castle Cove (Goodwood, 13.20) – 1pt win @ 4/1 (William Hill) Zavateri (Goodwood, 13.55) – 0.5pt each-way @ 6/1 (Ladbrokes) Kinross (Goodwood, 14.30) – 0.5pt win @ 10/3 (William Hill) French Master (Goodwood, 15.05) – 0.5pt each-way @ 11/2 (Ladbrokes) Enchanting (Goodwood, 15.45) – 0.5pt each-way @ 14/1 (William Hill) Naval Light (Goodwood, 16.20) – 1pt win @ 13/8 (Bet365) Mahra's Love (Goodwood, 16.55) – 0.5pt each-way @ 6/1 (William Hill) Cinque Verde (Goodwood, 17.30) – 0.5pt each-way @ 11/1 (William Hill) Coral Chesterfield Cup Handicap tips – 13.20 Goodwood Six of the last 10 winners of this tricky 1m2f handicap have come from double figure draws and the likely market leader on betting sites, Castle Cove, has that in his favour. The William Haggas-trained gelding showed ability when scoring at Leicester on debut last year. Comfortably held on his next two starts, he returned from a lengthy break to win going away off a hold-up ride at Chester last month. Both his wins have come with some ease in the ground but he should handle the forecast good going and an 8lb rise makes him look well treated now. He is unexposed and is taken to successfully follow up. Coral Vintage Stakes tips – 13.55 Goodwood The Coral Vintage Stakes looks like being a very informative Group 2 contest over 7f. Aidan O'Brien is responsible for the likely favourite, Dorset, who comes into this on the back of a maiden win at the Curragh last month. He should go well, as should Humidity, for the Andrew Balding/James Doyle combination. A number of other debut winners in the field make this a bit of a conundrum but I like the look of Zavateri, who is 2-2. His style of running suggests he will relish this step up in trip. Eve Johnson Houghton's colt is already proven in this grade, having won the Bahrain Stakes at Newmarket's July meeting, where he improved plenty for his debut success. He has a penalty to shoulder but looks capable of further improvement. Horse racing betting sites price him up at 6/1 to make his mark at Goodwood. HKJC World Pool Lennox Stakes tips – 14.30 Goodwood This looks tricky, with plenty of runners involved where some sort of case can be made and, at the same time, there can be some holes picked in their form. The award for consistency at this level would surely go to Kinross, and Ralph Beckett's eight-year-old gets the nod. He ran a blinder when runner-up in the Group 3 John Of Gaunt Stakes at Haydock on his reappearance. He should be spot on after that, acts on any ground and he is taken to add to his two previous wins in this race. Al Shaqab Goodwood Cup Stakes tips – 15.05 Goodwood The centrepiece on day one is this Group 1 contest for the stayers and some of the sport's greatest have lifted this prize. Aidan O'Brien saddles the pre-race favourite, Illinois, who finished second to Trawlerman in the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot last month. His trainer said he didn't get a 'Cup preparation' for that event as he was being trained for shorter events, so it was an admirable effort and he looks a worthy market leader. Given that John and Thady Gosden trained the winner that day, they'll have a handle on how French Master compares and he steps up from Royal Ascot handicap success to the top table this time. That win was a career-best and he's earned his place in this field. An extra couple of furlongs looks a positive and he could emerge as a major player. A price of 11/2 on betting apps looks like good value for the French Master to triumph. Coral Golden Rewards Shaker Handicap tips – 15.45 Goodwood Another tough big field handicap on day one is this Class 2 contest over 5f. Even though this is a straight track, it does take a bit of knowing and those with course form adds a little extra confidence. Into that category comes the Andrew Balding-trained Enchanting. He's a standish dish here, having won three times over C&D and run well on other occasions. He steps up in class this time, so does have a little to prove in that respect but conditions won't be a problem and he looks capable of going close at a double figure price. British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes tips – 16.20 Goodwood There's plenty of promise in the line-up, not least Naval Light. Karl Burke's colt found just one too good on debut at Beverley and was pitched in at Group 2 level at Royal Ascot. He didn't improve his chances that day with a slow start and, as a consequence, could never really get into the race. However, he came home well to pick off half of the field. Pilot James Doyle will surely not let him suffer the same start twice and he looks capable of breaking his duck at the third attempt. Ridgeview Fillies' Handicap tips – 16.55 Goodwood An excellent effort by Dash Of Azure when fifth in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot has ensured the layers want to keep her onside and any value in her price has gone as a result. That's not the case with Mahra's Love, who comes here seeking a hat-trick after wins at Kempton (7f, AW) and more recently when making all at York (1m, good to firm). There was plenty to like about how she took that race by the scruff of the neck and comfortably accounted for the field. Her trainer, William Haggas, has his string in continued good form and she looks likely to continue on an upward curve, despite a 6lb rise. World Pool Bet With The Tote EBF Fillies' Handicap tips – 17.30 Goodwood The day one nightcap is another fillies' contest, this time over 6f. There looks to be a cracking each-way play here in Cinque Verde, who represents Tony Carroll. The daughter of Sioux Nation has had more success on all weather surfaces than turf but she has won on a sound surface, sees out 6f well and has been more consistent than many sprinters this calendar year. There are no secrets with her but she arrives on a competitive mark and looks capable of another big effort at a track where she's already been placed this season. NFL Free Agency: Early look at 33 key Eagles slated to hit the open market in 2026
Dallas Goedert and Reed Blankenship are among 33 Philadelphia Eagles who will be restricted or unrestricted free agents in the 2026 NFL offseason. Week 1 of Eagles training camp is off and running, and Nick Sirianni's team is loaded with playmakers and versatility. Philadelphia added 10 players during the NFL draft and still has a huge Super Bowl window thanks to an MVP candidate at quarterback and elite talent in several critical positions. Regardless of the outcome of this upcoming season, the roster will likely undergo further changes. The Birds have 33 players who'll test restricted or unrestricted free agency during the 2026 NFL offseason. Several key factors include a pending contract extension for Jalen Carter and the contract status for star tight end Dallas Goedert. Reed Blankenship is one of the biggest names on the list, and the defense could look drastically different with Nakobe Dean entering the final year of his rookie deal. With Week 2 of training camp set to begin, we're previewing the 33 Eagles who'll be free agents next spring. CB Tariq Castro-Fields- RFA OL Darian Kinnard-RFA FB/LB Ben VanSumeren- RFA VanSumeren had carved out a role as the Eagles' fullback, reserve linebacker, and special-teams standout. Still, his season ended after the second-year sensation suffered a knee injury during a Friday practice. VanSumeren did not play a single snap on defense last season; he has carved out a role as a fullback on the offensive side of the ball. He's also a major special-teams contributor, having played 12 offensive snaps last season and 153 on special teams. DB Lewis Cine-RFA Cine was selected by Minnesota 32nd overall in the 2022 draft and joined the Bills' practice squad after being released by the Vikings last summer. He broke his leg during his rookie season and was limited to playing 10 defensive snaps in 10 games over his two years in Minnesota. The 24-year-old from Haiti is listed at 6-foot-2 and 199 pounds and is a low-risk signing, having had a decorated college career at Georgia. Cine earned defensive MVP honors in Georgia's 33-18 win over Alabama in the national championship game in the 2021 season. OLB Josh Uche-Void The young pass rusher struggled over the past two seasons but was named an underrated pass rusher by PFF entering 2025 NFL free agency. DT Thomas Booker-RFA CB Eli Ricks-RFA Eli Ricks will move up the Eagles' depth chart after a season spent watching and continuing to learn his craft. He could also be trade bait because Ricks is 23 years old, plays with great length, and has had incredible mentors in Darius Slay and James Bradberry. OL Kenyon Green-UFA Green is entering the last year of his rookie deal at a $2.88 million salary. Green started 14 of 15 games as a rookie but was the 77th-highest-graded guard (37.7) out of 77 players in Pro Football Focus rankings that year. Last season, Green was one of the lowest-graded offensive guards in the NFL. LS Charley Hughlett-UFA RB A.J. Dillon-UFA Dillon signed a one-year deal with Philadelphia after missing last season with a neck injury. LB Nakobe Dean-UFA Nakobe Dean earned All-Pro votes with his performance this season. Now, the Eagles linebacker will work to rehab from a torn patellar tendon he suffered in the NFC Wild Card win over Green Bay. Ian Rapoport reports that Dean could miss part of the 2025 season while rehabbing. He's entering the final year of his deal. OLB Patrick Johnson-UFA WR/KR Avery Williams- UFA TE Harrison Bryant- UFA CB Parry Nickerson- UFA TE Nick Muse- UFA TE Grant Calcaterra- UFA A player who could benefit the most from a Goedert departure, Calcaterra finished his third professional season with career highs in catches (24), yards (298), and touchdowns (one). TE Dallas Goedert- Void Goedert is set to enter the final year of his deal. Last season, Goedert played in 10 games, logging 42 receptions for 496 yards, averaging 11.8 yards per catch, and two scores. He led the team in receptions (17) and receiving yards (215) during their Super Bowl run in the postseason. Goedert is a warrior, and when he's healthy, the talented pass catcher is one of the top tight ends in the NFL. Goedert is 30 years old, and like Zach Ertz before him, the Eagles could be preparing for an exit strategy as they work to get younger at the position. WR Jahan Dotson- Void Dotson had his fifth-year option declined, and he'll be playing for a contract. Azeez Ojulari-Void The 24-year-old made the most of his return to the starting lineup with five sacks in three games. He's an intriguing free agent and someone who could have a Zack Baun-like impact on the defense. DB Reed Blankenship- Void Blankenship logged 78 tackles (52 solo), six pass defenses (including four interceptions), and one fumble recovery during 15 regular-season games in 2024. He added 27 tackles (18 solo), one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery across the Eagles' four playoff games. Blankenship earned a one-year, $3.58 million contract extension with the Eagles last April after leading the team in tackles and interceptions. He saw his tackling numbers dip in the regular season and finished third behind Zack Baun (151) and Nakobe Dean (128), but Blankenship finished as the Eagles' second-leading tackler during the postseason behind Dean (33). Blankenship could be in line for another, more sizable contract extension heading into the 2025 campaign. DB Tristin McCollum -- ERFA McCollum logged 33 tackles (18 solo) and two pass defenses in 14 regular-season appearances in 2024. P Braden Mann- Void CB Adoree' Jackson-Void TE Kylen Granson- Void OL Kendall Lamm- Void OL Matt Pryor- Void DT Joe Evans -- ERFA DT Jacob Sykes-ERFA Edge Rusher Ogbonnia Okoronkwo -- UFA TE EJ Jenkins -- ERFA OLB Ochaun Mathis-ERFA WR Terrace Marshall Jr. -- UFA The former LSU star pass catcher was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the second round (59th overall) of the 2021 NFL draft. He appeared in 13 games as a rookie and recorded 17 receptions for 138 receiving yards. Marshall finished his second season (2022) with 28 receptions for 490 receiving yards and one touchdown in 14 games.
