Wordle hints today for #1,498: Clues and answer for Saturday, July 26

Hey, there! Welcome to the weekend. We hope it's an exciting one for you. One thing that may prove to be thrilling is extending your Wordle streak. To help with that, here's our daily Wordle guide with some hints and the answer for Saturday's puzzle (#1,498). It may be that you're a Wordle newcomer and you're not completely sure how to play the game. We're here to help with that too. What is Wordle? Wordle is a deceptively simple daily word game that first emerged in 2021. There is one five-letter word to deduce every day by process of elimination. The daily word is the same for everyone. Wordle blew up in popularity in late 2021 after creator Josh Wardle made it easy for players to share an emoji-based grid with their friends and followers that detailed how they fared each day. The game's success spurred dozens of clones across a swathe of categories and formats. The New York Times purchased Wordle in early 2022 for an undisclosed sum. The publication said that players collectively played Wordle 5.3 billion times in 2024. So, it's little surprise that Wordle is one of the best online games and puzzles you can play daily. How to play Wordle To start playing Wordle, you simply need to enter one five-letter word. The game will tell you how close you are to that day's secret word by highlighting letters that are in the correct position in green. Letters that appear in the word but aren't in the right spot will be highlighted in yellow. If you guess any letters that are not in the secret word, the game will gray those out on the virtual keyboard. However, you can still use those letters in subsequent guesses. You'll only have six guesses to find each day's word, though you still can use grayed-out letters to help narrow things down. It's also worth remembering that letters can appear in the secret word more than once. Wordle is free to play on the NYT's website and apps, as well as on Meta Quest headsets and Discord. The game refreshes at midnight local time. If you log into a New York Times account, you can track your stats, including the all-important win streak. How to play Wordle more than once a day If you have a NYT subscription that includes full access to the publication's games, you don't have to stop after a single round of Wordle. You'll have access to an archive of more than 1,400 previous Wordle games. So if you're a relative newcomer, you'll be able to go back and catch up on previous editions. In addition, paid NYT Games members have access to a tool called the Wordle Bot. This can tell you how well you performed at each day's game. Today's Quordle Hints (and Answer) for Saturday, July 26, 2025

If you're looking for the Quordle answer for Saturday, July 26, 2025, read on—I'll share some clues, tips, and strategies, and finally the solution. Beware, there are spoilers below for July 26, Quordle #1279! Keep scrolling if you want some hints (and then the answer) to today's Quordle game. (If you play Wordle, Connections, and Strands, check out our hints for those games, too.) How to play Quordle Quordle lives on the Merriam-Webster website. A new puzzle goes live every day. If you've never played, it's a twist on The New York Times' daily Wordle game, in which you have a limited number of attempts to guess a five-letter mystery word. In Quordle, though, you're simultaneously solving four Wordle-style puzzles, and each of your guesses gets applied to the four puzzles simultaneously. Due to the increased difficulty, Quordle grants you nine guesses (12 if you play on 'Chill' mode, or eight if you play on 'Extreme'), rather than Wordle's six. To start, guess a five-letter word. The letters of the word in each of the four quadrants will turn green if they're correct, yellow if you have the right letter in the wrong place, or gray if the letter isn't in that secret word at all. Ready for the hints? Let's go! Can you give me a hint for today's Quordle? Upper left: Dirty Upper right: Perfectly behaved Lower left: Dirty, another way Lower right: An opposite word Does today's Quordle have any double or repeated letters? Upper left: Yes, a double consonant. Upper right: No. Lower left: Yes, a repeated consonant. Lower right: No. What letters do today's Quordle words start with? Upper left: M Upper right: S Lower left: K Lower right: P What letters do today's Quordle words end with? Upper left: Y Upper right: T Lower left: Y Lower right: R What is the solution to today's Quordle? Upper left: MUDDY Upper right: SAINT Lower left: KINKY Lower right: POLAR How I solved today's Quordle I'll kick it off with SLATE and MOUND. Nice, that gets me two starting letters. I'll try MUDDY for the upper left. Yep. I think SAINT makes the most sense for the upper right. Yep. LOCAL might fit the bottom right. Not quite, but closer. POLAR? There it is. The bottom left only has the vowels I and (sometimes) Y. I'll try KINKY. Nice! The best starter words for Quordle What should you play for that first guess? We can look to Wordle for some general guidelines. The best starters tend to contain common letters, to increase the chances of getting yellow and green squares to guide your guessing. (And if you get all grays when guessing common letters, that's still excellent information to help you rule out possibilities.) There isn't a single 'best' starting word, but The New York Times's Wordle analysis bot has suggested starting with one of these: CRANE TRACE SLANT CRATE CARTE Meanwhile, an MIT analysis found that you'll eliminate the most possibilities in the first round by starting with one of these: SALET REAST TRACE CRATE SLATE Other good picks might be ARISE or ROUND. Words like ADIEU and AUDIO get more vowels in play, but you could argue that it's better to start with an emphasis on consonants, using a starter like RENTS or CLAMP. Choose your strategy, and see how it plays out. Solve the daily Crossword
