Lions centre Bundee Aki has revealed that his wife gave birth on the day of the first Test in Brisbane - with the Ireland international yet to meet his new-born daughter.

Aki, who featured in all three Tests for the British and Irish Lions here in Australia, was on the bench for the first Test in Brisbane. However, following the third Test defeat in Sydney, Aki revealed that he recently welcomed a fifth child - although he's yet to see his newest daughter.

"I want to enjoy my break, my family time," said the 35-year-old as he reflected on the end of a long Lions tour. "I haven't seen my family for eight weeks.

"I have a new-born child who I haven't met yet. She was born when we were playing in Brisbane, so I haven't met her.
"Her name is Aine, so I'm looking forward to going and meeting my new-born child and we'll go from there."
Aki and his wife have a simple theme when it comes to naming their children, with Aine joining Armani-Jade, Adrianna, Andronicus and Ailbhe.

"All my kids start with A," he added. "So my wife loved the name Aine. That's five As in the family."
When asked if it had been difficult not seeing his new-born daughter and the rest of his family, Aki ultimately told the remarkable story of how his wife gave birth in New Zealand on the same day he was facing the Wallabies. "Credit to my wife," he said. "She's a powerful woman, a strong woman.

"I have to say it to her. If you only knew the story of what happened, it's a funny story in itself. It was a good day.
"I was in the hotel. I knew we were overdue. The missus calls me and she's like, 'Water hasn't broke but I'm going to the hospital, I'm feeling contractions.'
"I go, 'Yeah, fair enough.' She goes to the hospital, we're getting ready for the team meeting pre-match, and then she calls me and says she's on the way to the hospital, so I said, 'Fine, be safe.'

"Five minutes later, she sends a photo, her water broke. I was like, 'Cool, OK, are you almost there?' This is like 30 or 40 minutes away from the hospital, so I said, 'You'll be all right, Mum is there.'
"Ten minutes later, she video calls me and I was like, 'S**t, what's going on?' I saw a baby on the video call, so she had it in the car on the way to the hospital. They're both strong and healthy, so happy days.
"In New Zealand, yeah. So happy days."

Given the nature of the day, it might have been difficult for Aki to focus on the rugby, but the centre admitted he had no issue getting on with the task of taking on Australia at Suncorp Stadium.
"I knew it was good Juju, I knew it was good Juju," he said. "So I knew we were going to have a good day."

Completing a treble on the day, Keane got up close home on the 13-2 chance – who had shed his maiden tag at the fourth time of asking at Down Royal last month – to hold off Unbreakable Duke by a nose. Unbreakable Duke was subsequently demoted to third, with Summer Is Tomorrow promoted to second, following a stewards' inquiry into interference. British raider Jel Pepper (6-4 favourite) was fourth for Paul and Oliver Cole, while Prix Robert Papin winner Green Sense was withdrawn by Joseph O'Brien due to unsuitable ground. Lyons – who teamed up with Keane to land this race with Sacred Bridge in 2021 – admitted: 'I'm gobsmacked, as I didn't think he'd be good enough. 'What an honest horse, he's been doing it well. We wanted to win a maiden en route to winning a nursery, but he (handicapper) hit him with a mark that I thought was ridiculous for what I felt was a poor maiden. 'We came here because it was a good pot, and I said any bit of the prize-money is grand. Never in my wildest dreams did I think he'd win.' He added: 'I'm delighted as Sean's (Jones, owner) horses are now bought for and named by his sons Eddie and James to keep them interested and they are here today. They are the next generation, so it's great. 'Sean has been with me from day one and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.'

Celebrity SAS star Adam Collard blamed himself for partner Laura Woods' miscarriage

Celebrity SAS star Adam Collard blamed himself for partner Laura Woods' miscarriage The former Love Island star is currently competing on the gruelling Channel 4 programme Laura Woods and Adam Collard (Image: INSTAGRAM) Reality TV star Adam Collard has spoken publicly for the first time about the heartbreak he and his fiancée Laura Woods endured after suffering a miscarriage. ‌ Collard revealed the couple lost their baby when Laura was 11 weeks pregnant, just weeks before she conceived again. In January 2025, the couple welcomed a baby boy, Leo. ‌ The 29-year-old, who rose to fame on Love Island and has since appeared on Celebs Go Dating, is currently taking on brutal physical and mental challenges in the upcoming series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, which began on Sunday. ‌ In a deeply personal moment on the show, Collard reflects on the tragedy and admits he blamed himself at the time, believing it to be retribution for his behaviour on reality TV. 'I know it's a terrible way to look at it, but I felt like it was bad karma for me being on dating shows and upsetting too many people,' he says. 'I felt like that was some higher power's way of being like, 'Well, there you go, that's what you have to carry.'' Article continues below He added: 'I was just a cocky little p***k, being a love rat, jumping from girl to girl. I want to show I'm not that man any more.' Collard became known for his controversial stints on Love Island in both 2018 and 2022, where he was at the centre of several short-lived romances. His time on the show earned him a reputation for womanising — coupling up with four different contestants during his first appearance. ‌ He later dated Strictly Come Dancing star Zara McDermott for seven months and, more recently, Welsh contestant Paige Thorne during his 2022 return to the villa. That relationship also ended quickly after the show, with Collard later admitting he 'used' Paige to prolong his stay in the competition. He also had a brief relationship with model Lottie Moss after they met on Celebs Go Dating, though that ended shortly after he was accused of cheating. ‌ Collard says meeting presenter Laura marked a turning point in his life. The pair began dating in October 2023 and quickly built a strong relationship, announcing they were expecting a child the following year. He described Laura as 'the one' and credited her support, alongside his experience on Celebrity SAS, as having a lasting impact on his mental health. Article continues below 'On a personal level, I wanted to test myself mentally,' he said. 'I had a lot of stuff going on before I went on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, and I've got to be honest — but credit to the show — I actually think it had the most positive impact on my mental health.'
