India added one new airport every 40 days in last 10 years: Civil Aviation Minister
According to the minister, flying in India today is more accessible, more available and more affordable.
'Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian skies are more connected, competitive and collaborative, said Naidu, reiterating the ministry's commitment to collaborative, state-specific strategies for achieving inclusive aviation growth.
He was speaking at the 'Northern Region Ministers' Conference on Civil Aviation 2025' in Dehradun, organised by the Ministry of Civil Aviation
'Through this strategic initiative we aim to identify the regional opportunities and unlock the vast potential of Tier 2 and 3 cities. If we look at the sector through numbers, then we can clearly see the scale of the opportunity that exists,' Naidu told the gathering.
At the event, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami underlined the pivotal role of aviation in enhancing regional connectivity, enabling tourism, and supporting socio-economic development in the state.
He appreciated the phenomenal growth in the aviation sector and highlighted the prime importance of ensuring safety in the aviation operations, including helicopter operations in the hilly terrain of the state for which 'the state government and the Ministry are deeply committed'.
A series of presentations was made by the Ministry on opportunities for the states in the aviation sector.
The plenary session provided an overall outlook emerging from the day-long conference, where Naidu outlined the Ministry's strategic priorities for the region, including the development of heliport infrastructure, expansion of UDAN routes, strengthening of Flying Training Organizations and MRO hubs, and creating synergies between the Centre, states and industry stakeholders.
The Minister also reflected on key outcomes from the one-on-one meetings held between the Ministry and state delegations, and parallel sessions between state governments and aviation industry leaders, and assured all support from the Central Government in taking the aviation sector forward.

Bengaluru: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday criticised Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for suggesting a link between Covid-19 vaccines developed in India and the sudden deaths. Speaking to the media, on the sidelines of IIT Madras Alumni Association's Sangam 2025 event in Bengaluru, Piyush Goyal praised the Indian scientists for developing Covid vaccine in record time and the pharmaceutical sector for making it cost-effective. 'Fake narratives can't dilute the extraordinary work done by our scientists and the pharma industry in our fight against Covid,' said Goyal. 'Such a big country like India was able to provide 250 crore vaccines for free, because the companies of our country had the strength to make the vaccine at a much lower cost,' he added. His comments come in the wake of Siddaramaiah's recent post on social media platform X on 'the hasty approval and distribution of the Covid vaccine to the public'. The CM linked it to the more than 20 heart attack-related deaths seen in Karnataka's Hassan district in just 40 days. The Union Health Ministry, along with several scientists as well as pharma associations, has denied any link between Covid vaccines and the reported sudden deaths. A joint clarification from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) stated that ongoing surveillance and analyses have not revealed any significant deviation in patterns of cardiac-related deaths since before the pandemic. 'I feel that the Chief Minister here does not disrespect, he insults, and when he insults our scientists, our pharmacy, then I do not know what is the motive behind it?' Goyal said. 'Apologise to the Indian scientists and the pharmaceutical sector,' he added. He also asked whether the CM and the Congress are working at the behest of foreign powers. Are these the foreign powers whose agenda they are running here, are the foreign powers who want to lure India's pharmacy, are they troubled by India's economic progress and development,' Goyal said.

It is not EC's job to issue citizenship certificate: Former Election Commissioner Lavasa on Bihar poll roll revision
NEW DELHI: As Bihar's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) sparks fear of possible exclusion of voters, particularly as it aligns with the 2003 Citizenship Act, former Election Commissioner (EC) Ashok Lavasa on Saturday said that it is not the responsibility of Election Commission of India (ECI) to issue citizenship certificates. In a June 24 directive, the ECI cited Article 326 of the Constitution, stating that 'a person is required to be an Indian citizen, for his/her name to be registered in the roll. The commission has a constitutional obligation to ensure that only persons who are citizens are included'. Speaking to this paper, Lavasa said that according to the Citizenship Act, it is the responsibility of the state or the government to issue any kind of citizenship card or certificate. It is not ECI's job to issue that certificate, he said. The Election Commission is a constitutional body and its role is to supervise the elections, he added. 'There was a system in place for enrolling people for the last seven decades. And it was nobody's contention, least of all EC's. So today, to invoke Article 326 doesn't sound convincing,' said the former EC. It is unfair to ask a person to submit his/her documents if they have already been enrolled as an elector after following due process, he said.
