Tornado warning issued for part of Yellowhead County
Environment Canada has issued a tornado warning for an area west of Edmonton. The weather agency says meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible, says the warning that was issued at 6:45 p.m. MT. The thunderstorm is located about 45 kilometres southeast of the town of Edson and is moving toward the east at 30 km/h, the warning says. The warning is effect for Yellowhead County near Minnow and Wolf Lakes and Elk River. Residents in the area are advised to take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Many parts of the province are currently under a heat warning. Tornado warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing tornadoes.

Kirkland Lake crews repair 4th water main break in a week
Northern Ontario Watch Public works crews in Kirkland Lake have repaired all four water main breaks after a busy week of disruptions. Officials say service has been restored to affected residents and businesses between Chateau Drive and Al Wende Avenue, with no boil-water advisory required. Al Wende Avenue remains closed to facilitate road repairs and streetlight work.

(Deng Hua/Xinhua via AP) BEIJING — Heavy flooding in central and southern China has killed at least nine people with and displaced tens of thousands as more rainfall was forecast on the way, state media reported Tuesday At least eight people were listed as missing in the worst-hit provinces of Henan, Hubei and Guizhou, where rivers overtopped dikes and poured into city streets, housing complexes and shopping malls. Although China experiences flooding each summer, the images were some of the most dramatic in years, many of them spread on social media to avoid official censors. Rapid urban development appears to have worsened the problem, and the Communist Party authorities who control all media have been especially reticent in their news releases about the toll floods have taken. Information has been especially tight since 2001 flooding in the city of Zhengzhou killed 39 people below ground, including 14 who drowned inside a flooded subway train, although the true number of dead has been disputed. That led to popular protests against poor design, corruption and the government's slow response. Flash flood warnings were also issued for the northern region of Inner Mongolia, while the southernmost island province of Hainan was also told to prepare for heavy rains. The Associated Press
