ChatGPT 'invented' sexual harassment charges against me, claims law professor at an American university in a viral post: Here's what happened

Time of India10-07-2025
A prominent law professor has accused OpenAI's ChatGPT of fabricating serious allegations, spotlighting concerns about artificial intelligence spreading disinformation, according to the New York Post. Jonathan Turley, a criminal defense attorney and
George Washington University law professor
, claims ChatGPT falsely accused him of sexually harassing a former student. In a viral Twitter thread and a column gaining widespread attention, Turley described the accusations as 'chilling,' warning of the broader dangers AI poses to free speech and reputation.
'It invented an allegation where I was on the faculty at a school where I have never taught, went on a trip that I never took, and reported an allegation that was never made,' Turley told the New York Post. 'It is highly ironic because I have been writing about the dangers of AI to free speech.' The issue came to light when
UCLA professor Eugene Volokh
asked ChatGPT to provide 'five examples' of sexual harassment by law school professors, including quotes from relevant news articles. Among the responses, ChatGPT cited a supposed 2018 incident at 'Georgetown University Law Center,' alleging Turley made 'sexually suggestive comments' and 'attempted to touch [a female student] in a sexual manner' during a law school-sponsored trip to Alaska. The AI attributed the claim to a nonexistent Washington Post article.
Turley was quick to debunk the claims, noting 'a number of glaring indicators that the account is false.' He told the Post, 'First, I have never taught at Georgetown University. Second, there is no such Washington Post article. Finally, and most important, I have never taken students on a trip of any kind in 35 years of teaching, never went to Alaska with any student, and I've never been accused of sexual harassment or assault.'

Adding to his frustration, Turley said neither OpenAI nor Microsoft, whose AI reportedly repeated the false story, contacted him or issued an apology. 'ChatGPT has not contacted me or apologized. It has declined to say anything at all. That is precisely the problem. There is no there there,' he told the Post. 'When you are defamed by a newspaper, there is a reporter who you can contact. Even when Microsoft's AI system repeated that same false story, it did not contact me and only shrugged that it tries to be accurate.'
The New York Post reached out to OpenAI for comment but had not received a response at the time of publication. Turley's experience has amplified concerns about AI's potential to spread falsehoods. 'Yesterday, President Joe Biden declared that 'it remains to be seen' whether Artificial Intelligence (AI) is 'dangerous.' I would beg to differ,' Turley tweeted on Thursday, adding, 'You can be defamed by AI and these companies merely shrug that they try to be accurate. In the meantime, their false accounts metastasize across the Internet.'
As AI technologies like ChatGPT become more prevalent, Turley's case underscores growing fears about their role in generating and disseminating disinformation, with little accountability for the harm caused.

‘Not normal': Couple abandons 10-year-old son in Barcelona airport; was getting late to catch flight

Representative AI image A couple allegedly abandoned their 10-year-old son at the Barcelona Airport after discovering his passport had expired, choosing to board their flight home without him to avoid missing it, reported The Sun. A terminal worker who goes by the name of Lilian has posted a video on social media, criticizing the actions of the parents, garnering over 300,000 views. In her video, she claims that the parents reportedly arranged for a relative to pick their son up so that they could continue their journey. However, their unusual plan unraveled when airport staff discovered the boy alone and alerted the police, according to the air traffic coordinator. "He told them that his parents were on the plane on their way to their home country, going on vacation," Lilian said in her video, reported The Sun. "His passport in the country was expired, so the child was travelling with a Spanish passport but the Spanish passport needed a visa. As they did not have a visa, they left the child at the terminal and called a relative to come and pick him up," she added. Urgent contact was then made with the plane's pilot, who then confirmed that the police had informed him about a minor in the car park. Eventually, the parents were located who were accompanied by another, younger child. 'I'm an air traffic controller, and as a controller, I've seen a lot of things, but this has been completely surreal,' Lilian added, reported the New York Post. "How is it possible for parents to leave their ten-year-old son at the terminal because he cannot travel due to documentation issues? They call a relative but the relative may take half an hour, about an hour, about three hours and they take the flight so calmly and leave the child behind!" Lililian said. "They saw it as very normal. Obviously I didn't see it as normal and the police didn't see it as normal either," she said. Lilian reported that airport police eventually removed the parents' luggage from the flight and escorted them to the on-site police station for questioning. It remains unclear whether the parents were formally arrested.

Parents allegedly leave 10-year-old at airport to go on vacation after realising his passport expired

A woman claiming to be an air-operations coordinator at an airport in Spain alleged on TikTok that the parents of a 10-year-old left him at an airport terminal and went on with their vacation after spotting that his passport had expired. According to reports, the parents ditched the kid to board their plane and asked a relative to pick the boy up. '[The kid] told [police] that his parents were on the plane, on their way to their home country for vacation,' she claimed while speaking Spanish in the TikTok video, reports the New York Post. 'The explanation given was that the child was traveling with an expired passport from Spain, and needed a travel visa,' said Lilian. 'Since he didn't have a visa, they left the kid in the terminal and called a relative to pick him up,' she continued. The kid was reportedly found while waiting for his relative to pick him up from the airport. Lillian later claimed, 'I didn't see it as normal,' adding, 'The police didn't see it as normal either.' "How is it possible for parents to leave their ten-year-old son at the terminal because he cannot travel due to documentation issues?" Lilian continued. "They call a relative but the relative may take half an hour, about an hour, about three hours and they take the flight so calmly and leave the child behind!" According to a Fox News report, the airport authority contacted the pilot of the plane the kid's parents boarded. The pilot reportedly asked, 'If someone had left a child in the terminal and no one had answered, " but later, the parents were located, who were travelling with another younger child. They were reportedly taken to the police station to their son. 'I'm an air traffic controller, and as a controller, I've seen a lot of things, but this has been completely surreal,' Lilian said in her video. 'I'm amazed to think how parents could possibly leave their ten-year-old son at the terminal because he can't travel due to documentation issues,' she added.

Video: Violent Brawl Erupts At Colombian Airport After Man Slaps Woman For Refusing To Give Up Seat

Shocking scenes unfolded at El Dorado International Airport in Bogota on Sunday after a man slapped a woman in the face for refusing to give up her seat at a Colombian airport terminal - triggering a massive brawl as bystanders rushed to defend her. The video of the ordeal, which is now being widely circulated online, shows the man identified as Hector Santacruz walking up to the woman, Claudia Segura, and demanding that she give up her seat. According to the New York Post, Segura had sat in the seat next to Santacruz's wife while he was away, and he became enraged when she refused to give it up. "Get up or I'll get you up," Santacruz said before the assault, according to the outlet. He then turned to somebody and told them to make sure they were recording the altercation, and smacked the woman's phone out of her hand, before slapping her across the face. "He hits me on the hand, knocks off my phone, and hits me hard in the face and head," Segura told a local media outlet, adding, "The magnitude of the impact knocked my earring off." #INACEPTABLE. — Colombia Oscura (@ColombiaOscura_) July 30, 2025 Within no time, several horrified passengers - both men and women - rushed to Segura's defence and pushed the man away. More people joined in when Santacruz tried to sway them away and shouted angrily. Eventually, his wife leapt into the brawl and tried to calm everybody down. Another video filmed just minutes later showed Segura lying on the floor as airport staff tended to her injuries. Santacruz, on the other hand, is seen being handcuffed and hauled off by security staff, with passengers cheering. "I am affected and very afraid," Segura said of her state of mind after the incident, adding that she only sat in the fateful seat because it appeared completely unattended. "When I got to the waiting area, everything was completely full, and I only saw one empty chair," she said, per the Post. "It didn't have any bags or clothes on (it) to indicate it was occupied, so I sat down," she added. It is unclear whether Santacruz is facing any charges. Santacruz's wife, Karen, later apologised in a now-deleted video on Instagram. "The person shown physically assaulting a woman is my husband. And you don't know how much it hurts me to say this out loud," she said in an apology video. "It really hurts me as a woman, as a mother," she added.
