Harking back to the heyday of Twiggy's iconic pixie haircut and the era when extra short hair reigned supreme, nostalgic crops are now reemerging once again, with dramatic, short hair dominating our summer mood boards.
Case in point: Emma Stone has been sporting a tousled pixie cut, while Victoria Beckham recently revived her iconic graduated 'uncut' bob, leaning into a softer, more effortless hairstyle. Meanwhile, famous faces who have never cut off their lengths before are now jumping on the trend. See: Sofia Richie-Grainge, who chopped off her signature long waves and debuted a French bob while on holiday this summer.
'Extra short hair is having a moment as the ultimate style reset this summer. After seasons of long hair, people are now embracing bold, low-maintenance cuts that feel fresh and fun,' shares Eugene Smith, a senior stylist at John Frieda's Salon in London. 'It's a great way to shed any past hair damage, and with the hotter weather right now, short hair means quicker styling, fewer ponytails, and a cooler nape.'
Thinking of braving the chop but not sure where to start? Three hairstylists break down the trending extra-short hairstyles that are dominating this summer.
'The Bixie is simply a cross between a pixie and a bob; it's short and cropped at the nape like a pixie, with more length at the crown and fringe like a bob,' shares Smith. From Florence Pugh and Iris Law to Taylor Hill, the Bixie cut has been cropping up more than ever this summer. 'It's a cut that balances femininity and edge perfectly,' notes Smith.
As to why it's gaining popularity? 'It's the perfect in-between haircut for those transitioning from long hair to short hair or growing out their current cut. It helps create a soft, face-framing finish in the front and an edgier feel at the back,' shares Smith.
The Bixie can work for a number of hair types and textures, too. 'For fine hair, you can finger dry your ends using a root-lifting mousse to add volume and then finish with a texturizing spray to define the movement,' says Smith. 'For thick or coarse hair, a layered haircut is key to prevent bulk. You can finish the look with a smoothing balm to help control the shape,' he adds. If you have curly hair, he recommends embracing the natural pattern of your curls and opting for a curl cream to add volume and definition.
A grown-out pixie cut is an obvious choice for summer. 'It's because it's so versatile; you can air dry your hair, tuck it behind the ears, or wear it slicked back,' shares Smith.
Styling a grown-out pixie is also pretty straightforward. 'You can revive it by creating volume and texture,' shares Smith. 'For naturally straight hair, tongs are a great way to add movement.'
'The key to growing out short hair is having regular trims to keep it in shape and using conditioning products to keep it healthy and hydrated,' says Cos Sakkas, TONI&GUY's global creative director. 'Try to minimize heat styling too—the great thing about the pixie is that it can be air dried. As it starts to grow out, play with different textures and shape; change the part or add some curls through the top,' he adds.
'Most iconically seen on Christy Turlington in the nineties, this head-hugging short haircut is becoming increasingly popular,' shares Eva Goulding, a stylist at the Nicola Clarke salon.
The aesthetic centers on a short classic bob style, which can be cut with soft layers or straight, and takes its name thanks to the iconic nineties supermodel blow-dry; it's reminiscent of the 'old money' bob and has plenty of volume and movement. Today's iterations are mostly worn with a voluminous side part and soft waves, which you can create using wide curling tongs and setting spray.

Popular DJ who vanished 3 weeks ago ID'd as man found dead on NYC houseboat: sources

A popular Big Apple DJ who mysteriously vanished three weeks ago has been identified by sources as the man discovered dead on a houseboat in Queens. Reda Briki, 52, was found unconscious and unresponsive by an acquaintance in the cabin of a boat docked at Railroad and Greenpoint avenues in Newton Creek Marina Sunday afternoon, sources said. The electronic dance music producer, who co-founded Love that Fever, was pronounced dead at the scene, though friends – who launched an exhaustive search after he was last seen on June 14 – believe he died weeks ago. 'This news may come as a shock, and we know Reda meant many things to many people – a friend, a brother, a fellow creative spirit. He had a wild and beautiful energy, and he moved through the world in his own unique way. He made a lot of people happy with his music,' he continued. Advertisement 'On a personal note, it was just 5 weeks ago he was with me, rocking in a festival in Devon, taking people on a deep tribal house journey, living his best life. Gone too soon. Safe travels back to the music, brother. RIP.' Briki may have died about a week before his decomposed corpse was discovered, sources said, adding that he suffered no apparent signs of trauma and is not immediately believed to be the victim of a crime. 3 The 52-year-old DJ was discovered unconscious and unresponsive on board a docked boat. Why Hailee Steinfeld's Round Diamond Engagement Ring and Wedding Band Go Against Current Trends

Hailee Steinfeld stole the spotlight at Paris Couture Week—and not just because of her outfit. The newlywed actress wore her wedding band—a glitzy eternity ring—to Tamara Ralph's show, days after she was photographed wearing both it and the round diamond engagement ring her husband, Josh Allen, gave her. Steinfeld's stack has serious sparkle. 'Round diamonds have always been in style, but what I find more interesting about Hailee's stack is its scale,' Steph Mazuera, who founded her own namesake brand that creates made-to-order engagement rings, tells ELLE. 'Her wedding band is substantial enough to make a statement on its own, something I'm seeing more and more of, especially with clients who opt for larger center stones in their engagement rings. Many choose to wear just their wedding band on certain days, so designing a band that shines independently has become a more popular consideration. Hailee's rings feel both classic and current, designed with both versatility and longevity in mind.' Multiple jewelers spoke to ELLE about Steinfeld's rings. Here, everything you need to know about her wedding jewelry. Steinfeld opted for a timeless diamond shape. 'It sounds a little ironic, but choosing such a classic diamond shape makes Hailee's ring stand out when elongated shapes like oval and emerald are trending,' Lauren Boc, founder and CEO of Hera Fine Jewelry, tells ELLE. Compared to other celebrities who opt for large center stones, 'the diamond is a balanced size—it has a lot of presence on her hand and feels special, but it isn't too big,' Boc adds. 'Personally, I love that she didn't choose an enormous diamond. I think there's something very elegant about choosing something relatively understated, and it's going to be much more comfortable and practical.' Mazuera was similarly impressed with the diamond's cut. 'Hailee's round brilliant cut is a timeless and classic choice,' she says. 'Round brilliants are known for their sparkle and symmetry, with 58 precisely cut facets designed to maximize light return. Her ring is simple, elegant, and allows the quality of the stone to take center stage.' Size-wise, Boc estimates the stone is two and a half to three carats, while Mazuera thinks it is around four carats. Steinfeld's ring also features a glittery diamond pavé band—with some extra-smart touches. 'The diamond pavé band is a really nice width—it isn't too dainty and feels proportionate to the center stone,' Boc says. 'That will help support the center diamond and keep the diamonds in the band secure as well. This looks like a cathedral setting to me, which is the most durable way to elevate the diamond off the finger, so it can stack flush with a wedding band.' Mazuera agrees: 'Hailee's ring features a substantial pavé band, and I love the way it arches up to meet her center stone. This style is known as a cathedral setting. It adds both structural support and an elegant, architectural lift to the diamond. The way the shoulders curve upward creates a beautiful line, guiding the eye directly to the center stone. It's a refined way to add dimension and durability while keeping the focus on the diamond itself.' Mazuera believes Steinfeld's ring 'would likely be valued around $75,000 to $125,000 if the diamond is mined, or approximately $10,000 to $20,000 if the diamond is lab-grown,' she says. 'The value can vary widely depending on the diamond's color, clarity, and origin, but it's undoubtedly a significant piece.' Boc, meanwhile, estimates its value is roughly $50,000 to $75,000. Steinfeld added a lot more sparkle to her stack with her eternity band—enough that the ring is a statement piece fit to wear on its own (which the actress did at Paris Couture Week). 'Hailee's wedding band looks like an oval diamond eternity band,' Boc says. 'The stones are pretty large, which gives it a very luxurious look. The cathedral setting of her engagement ring allows this relatively tall band to stack flush, because the round diamond is elevated off her hand, providing clearance for the wedding band to slide underneath.' Mazuera believes the stones are 'radiant-cut diamonds in a shared-prong or u-prong setting. This style allows maximum light exposure, giving each stone a bold, brilliant presence.' She also called out the cathedral setting on Steinfeld's engagement ring, which 'lifts the center stone just enough to let the band sit flush underneath creating a striking stack.' Boc points out that it can be risky to wear both pieces—an engagement ring with a diamond pavé band and an eternity ring with more diamonds—together too often. Steinfeld wore just her wedding band in Paris, for example. 'Over the years, that diamond wedding band and diamond engagement ring are going to wear down if she stacks them together daily,' Boc notes. 'Because diamonds are much harder than metal, with the friction of normal wear, the diamonds on each band will start eating into the prongs of the other band. When our clients choose designs like this, we recommend that they solder the rings together so there's no friction, or at least keep an eye on the setting.' Steinfeld opted for an engagement ring and wedding band style that will stand the test of time. 'A round diamond engagement ring with a pavé wedding band isn't really trendy—it's very classic,' Boc says. 'I hope Hailee's choice inspires people to get the ring they love and not worry about what's popular right now. I always tell our clients at Hera that what matters is that you love your ring, whether that means something trendy, classic, or totally unique.'
