MNS chief Raj Thackeray warned party leaders against public statements amid the Marathi row, prohibiting engagement with media and social platforms without his permission.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Tuesday warned party leaders against speaking publicly amid the ongoing Marathi row.
In a post on X, Thackeray, who recently reunited with estranged cousin and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, asked party leaders not to engage with media or post person reactions on social media.
'A Clear Directive… No one from the party is to engage with newspapers, news channels, or any digital media platforms. Likewise, posting personal reaction videos on social media is strictly prohibited. Even those official spokespersons who have been entrusted with the responsibility of media communication must not speak to any media outlet or express themselves on social media without consulting me and obtaining my permission," he wrote in a post on X.
High drama unfolded in Mira Bhayandar area near Mumbai on Tuesday as hundreds took part in a protest march led by the MNS and other groups to defend the Marathi 'asmita' (pride) amid rising political heat following the attack on a shopkeeper for refusal to speak Marathi.
The march witnessed detention of several activists by the police with leaders and workers of opposition Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP) also joining the protest. Shiv Sena minister Pratap Sarnaik was heckled and driven away by angry demonstrators as he visited the site to express solidarity.
The march organised by the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and other pro-Marathi groups under the aegis of Marathi Ekikaran Samiti to counter a protest staged by traders recently against the slapping of a food stall owner by MNS workers on July 1 for not speaking Marathi.
A video of the assault had gone viral on social media, following which traders in Bhayandar staged a protest, seeking action against the attackers. Seven MNS members were later detained.
Thousands of people holding placards, flags and wearing white caps emblazoned with 'Mi Marathi" slogans, walked enthusiastically on the streets in Mira Road and adjoining Bhayandar.
Several women, workers of the MNS and Shiv Sena (UBT) walked together, united by the Marathi cause.
The row over the 'imposition" of language in primary schools of Maharashtra has snowballed into a major political flash point ahead of civic polls.
The 'language' issue took a nasty turn with former BJP MP Dinesh Lal Yadav alias Nirhua daring the Thackeray cousins to throw him out of Mumbai for speaking Bhojpuri.
On Monday, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey caused a flutter with his 'patak, patak ke marenge" remarks targeting the Thackeray cousins.

Now, Sena minister Shirsat in video with ‘wads of cash'

MUMBAI: A day after he admitted to receiving a notice from the Income Tax department regarding a surge in his assets, social justice minister Sanjay Shirsat was seen in a video seated on a bed with what appears to be bundles of currency notes in a bag beside him. The video of Sanjay Shirsat was shared online by Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Friday. The video was shared online by Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Friday. Shirsat, Shiv Sena MLA from Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and a close aide of deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, has rubbished the claim, saying the bag contained only clothes and sundry items. The video, which quickly went viral online, has evoked a flurry of reactions from the opposition. In his social media post while sharing the video, Raut said, 'Prime minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah need to see this exciting video. What's going on in the country? This video of a minister from Maharashtra explains a lot.' Raut added that he 'felt sorry' for chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. 'The second name of helplessness is Fadnavis. How many incidents of embarrassment Fadnavis is going to tolerate silently?' he remarked. Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray took a sharp jab at Shirsat, with a quick-witted comment. He said the purported cash in the bag was part of '50 khoke', referring to his party's allegation that each of the Shiv Sena MLAs who had defected with Eknath Shinde had been given ₹50 crore to switch loyalties. Thackeray added, 'He (Shirsat) just received an IT notice. With this video, at least now CM Fadnavis will take action in the matter.' Sena (UBT) group leader in the legislative assembly Bhaskar Jadhav went a step further, alleging that the video of Shirsat could expose a conflict within the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, of which the Sena is a constituent. 'We can see money in the bag. First an inquiry into a hotel deal involving his son, then an IT notice, and now this video with a bag of money. It seems someone in the ruling alliance does not want to see Shirsat as a cabinet minister and so this video was leaked,' alleged Jadhav. Shirsat defended himself, saying, 'It looks like I came back from travel and my travel bag was lying around with clothes and some other stuff. Even my pet dog is sitting nearby. It doesn't mean I am doing anything wrong.' How did a candid video of the minister end up being recorded in his home, in the first place? Shirsat said he could not tell when it was shot. Since he is a leader of the common man, a range of people have access to his home and some 'enthusiastic' party workers may have recorded the video, he claimed. This is the third time this week that Shirsat has been embroiled in controversy. On Monday, he was caught on the wrong foot over allegations that the auction of a hotel in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar had been manipulated to favour his son Siddhant. After the opposition levelled the allegation in the legislative assembly, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis announced an investigation into the matter. The demand was made by the Sena (UBT). The video with the purported wads of cash is ill-timed for Shirsat, who on Thursday said he had received a notice from the Income Tax department, which has sought a clarification on a significant increase in his assets from 2019 to 2024.

‘What If Non-Marathi Speakers Left...?' Before That See What Happened When Nashik Man Was Held In Haryana

Haryana Man's Message On Unity Amid the noise, a video from Haryana is standing out for its calm and powerful message. Shared on Instagram, it begins with a man walking up to a group of labourers and asking, 'Who is from Maharashtra? Call them." One worker steps forward and says he is from Nashik. The Haryanvi man demands, 'Speak in Haryanvi." The man from Nashik replies that he does not know the language. The questions continue, 'How did you come here? How are you working here?" which leaves the worker silent. But then, the tone shifts. The man breaks into a smile and says, 'If you don't work here, who will? This is your country, do whatever you like. This is India, Bharat." The caption on the video reads, 'India's strength lies in its diversity—let's stop the language hate and come together as one." Watch the video here: 'Don't Use Shivaji's Name For Language Policing': Creator Explains With History Another video, shared by Jatin Bhatt on Instagram, challenges those using Maratha leader Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's name to justify the targeting of Hindi speakers. Shivaji Maharaj was the founder of the Maratha Empire. 'In Maharashtra, common people are being beaten for not speaking Marathi. And those doing it claim they are acting in the spirit of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj," he says. Jatin then explains, 'He knew more than nine languages fluently – including Persian and Sanskrit. When he wrote to Aurangzeb, he did so in Persian. And in his entire reign, he never punished anyone for not speaking Marathi." Jatin adds that Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, also had deep respect for languages. 'He knew more than thirteen languages fluently. It's said that he spoke Persian better than the Mughals themselves. He wrote all his poetry in Hindi. He wrote three books – Nayika Bhed, Nakshik and Saat Shatak. All of them are in Hindi and Braj – the language of Uttar Pradesh. He also wrote one book in Sanskrit. Not even one book of Sambhaji Maharaj is in Marathi," Jatin continues. He concludes by saying, 'So please, stop defaming Shivaji and Sambhaji Maharaj in the name of language. Personally, I love Marathi, some of my closest friends are Marathi. They speak in Marathi among themselves but switch to Hindi in front of me so I can understand. And I keep trying to learn Marathi too. But if you grab someone's collar and force them to 'speak Marathi," even those trying to learn will stop learning. So, to all my Marathi brothers and sisters, please don't let political agents tarnish the image of all of Maharashtra and Marathi people. That's all. Jai Hind!" What If Non-Speakers Leave Maharashtra? While some are looking to history, others are turning to numbers. Creator Shivam Sharma shared a video on Instagram asking viewers to imagine the consequences if all non-Marathi speakers left Maharashtra. He begins by talking about business and economy, saying, 'Even though Maharashtra is India's richest state, only one of the top five businessmen here is Marathi." He then highlights Bollywood's contribution to the state's GDP. 'Bollywood alone contributes Rs 18,000 crore a year, and 90 per cent of those involved are Hindi speakers. Icons like Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, who define Mumbai's film industry, are from Hindi-speaking states," he continued. Shivam also points to the role of other states in powering Maharashtra's infrastructure, 'Maharashtra doesn't have coal, uranium, or iron. These come from Hindi-speaking regions like Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh. If the supply stops, electricity and infrastructure projects will come to a halt." advetisement Talking about national security and social responsibility, he said, 'Marine Commando Praveen Teotia, who risked his life during the 2008 Mumbai attacks, is from Uttar Pradesh." Shivam concludes with a powerful message: 'The Constitution gives every Indian the right to work and speak any language in any state. I respect Marathi and its people, but I speak Hindi with pride." What Is The Controversy About?
