Stereophonics star Kelly Jones ditches junk food and alcohol from tour rider

Perth Now18-06-2025

Kelly Jones no longer has junk food and alcohol in his tour rider.
The Stereophonics frontman has confessed that he opts for healthier snacks backstage in order to make sure that his jeans still fit him.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column ahead of Stereophonics' headline slot at the Isle of Wight festival this weekend, Kelly said: "The Nineties were crazy – a totally different social situation. It's like another planet now.
"I think there are some things on our rider that are still the same as back then – because nobody has bothered to change it.
"There's always beer and wine. It used to be 12 boxes of pizza and a crate of lager. But when your jeans stop fitting you, you've got to get that right – those requests don't work at 50!"
The Dakota artist revealed that the rockers now have gym equipment and organic food ready for them when they come off stage.
Kelly explained: "Let's say the takeaway order at the end of the night is a little more extravagant and healthier these days.
"Now there's more gym gear backstage – that was definitely not there in the Nineties.
"Like a weight bench and stuff. It sits there – it gathers clothes a lot.
"We all still travel on the bus together, we all still go out for dinner together, we go for a drink after together.
"Thankfully, we all get on – not every band does – and we've had the same crew for 25 years, so it's a family-orientated vibe."
Meanwhile, Kelly revealed earlier this year that he turned down the chance to see a Stereophonics tribute band who have a lead singer called "Belly Jones".
The Welsh rocker describes it as a privilege when people cover the band's music but chose not to attend a working men's club in his homeland to watch the tribute act over Easter.
The 51-year-old musician told The Dave Berry Breakfast Show on Absolute Radio in April: "I wake up on Sunday mornings, and people send me clips of people at weddings and bars and pubs singing my stuff a lot.
"And when I went home for Easter this weekend to see my family in Wales, my cousin said, 'Do you want to come up to the working man's club?' I said, 'Why? What's happening? And she said, 'There's a Stereophonics tribute band playing.'"
He continued: "I think the singer, he's a big guy, he's called Belly Jones. So I said, 'No'. My missus was like, 'No, let's go.' Take the kids, have a good night."

Details emerge amid Aussie star's shock split from billionaire husband

Former singer and Neighbours actress Holly Valance and Reform UK treasurer Nick Candy have reportedly split and are heading for divorce after 13 years of marriage. Australian-born Valance, 42, and billionaire property developer Candy, 52, are said to have broken up in recent weeks, according to The Sun. The couple, who have two daughters, met in 2009 and became engaged two years later before marrying in California in 2012 at a ceremony attended by 300 guests. 'This has been a very difficult period for both Nick and Holly, and they are keeping things private out of respect for their family,' a family friend told the newspaper. 'The joint parenting of their two amazing daughters remains their top priority. 'They've had to juggle a demanding lifestyle. Between family, public life, and Nick's intense work commitments, it's been a tough balance. 'This is a family matter and they're doing their best to handle things thoughtfully. 'Privacy is obviously very important to them both, so they can focus on what's best for the family.' A spokesman for Valance said there would be no comment on the matter. 'The privacy of all parties involved is respectfully requested.' The couple are high-profile figures within Reform UK, and met Donald Trump with party leader Nigel Farage at the US president's Mar-a-Lago resort in 2022. After her stint in the Australian soap Neighbours where she played Felicity 'Flick' Scully from 1999, Valance had a music career, including the UK number one hit single Kiss Kiss released in 2002. She also reached the semi-finals of Strictly Come Dancing in 2011.

MAGA fan Holly Valance seen without her wedding ring after splitting from husband of 13 years, property tycoon Nick Candy

Holly Valance has been seen without her wedding ring for the first time since splitting from her husband of 13 years, property tycoon Nick Candy. The Australian and British actress, 42, was photographed on Sunday at London's Heathrow Airport Terminal 5, where she cut a casual figure. Pictured obtained by The Sun show Valance sported baggy blue jeans and a black top and cardigan, which she paired with leopard print trainers. She carried with her a large black suitcase and a £2,500 (AUD $5,249.11) Christian Dior tote bag as she made her way to a waiting car. Close-ups show Valance's lavish wedding band clearly missing from her finger as she strolled to the pickup point. The sighting comes after Valance and Candy, 52, who is the treasurer of the Reform UK party, split in recent weeks, The Sun reported on Friday. A family friend told the publication their separation has been "very difficult" for the right-wing couple and their two daughters, aged 12 and 8. 'This has been a very difficult period for both Nick and Holly, and they are keeping things private out of respect for their family," the friend said. 'The joint parenting of their two amazing daughters remains their top priority. 'They've had to juggle a demanding lifestyle. Between family, public life, and Nick's intense work commitments, it's been a tough balance.' The pair played a pivotal role in the rise of Reform UK after Candy defected from the Conservative Party to the right-wing group last year. Valance said she too was a member of Reform UK and would vote for the party in the 2024 general election. "I support anybody that sticks to what they believe in and isn't a turncoat, and doesn't do a million flip-flops and U-turns," she said at the time. Speaking further about her political views, Valance said: "Everyone starts off as a leftie and then wakes up at some point after making money, working, trying to run a business, trying to buy a home. Then realises what crap ideas they all are." The model is friends with Nigel Farage and helped the politician return as leader of Reform UK, having raised £1.5 million (AUD $2,295,612.55) within days of his comeback. In December 2024, it was then announced Candy would become treasurer of Reform UK. Valance and Candy have made no attempts to hide their support for Mr Farage as well as US President Donald Trump. After staying at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in 2022, Valance last year became the "UK poster girl" for the 78-year-old's presidential campaign. She and her now ex-husband also hosted an extensive re-election campaign for the President out of their posh London townhouse. The actress began dating Candy, who co-founded the property development and interior design firm Candy & Candy with his brother, Christian, in the early 1990s, in 2010. The couple tied the knot in 2012 in a million-dollar ceremony in California before 300 high-profile guests, including music star Simon Cowell. In 2018, Holly and Nick were even among the high-profile guests at Princess Eugenie's royal wedding at Windsor Chapel. Valance rose to fame playing the role of Felicity Scully on the hit TV series Neighbours from 1999 to 2002. She went on to star in several other popular series and made her mark in music, releasing the album Footprints with her hit single Kiss Kiss.

What to expect at Melbourne's latest European bistro by the Tipo 00 crew

Previous SlideNext Slide European$$$$ Harriot, the Conferre Group (Tipo 00, Osteria Ilaria, Figlia and Grana)'s fifth venue, is its first not to identify as Italian. Its identity is broadly European, fusing the best parts of the team's favourite wine bars and neo-bistros in London, France, Italy and Spain – venues that marry classical cooking with modern flourishes while exuding an effortless cool. Chef James Kelly (Embla)'s offering will look slightly different every week, but stars of his opening menu include a rye tartlet filled with fermented porcini mayonnaise and bluefin tuna; and lamb sweetbreads, cooked sous vide in brown butter and finished in a grenobloise-like sauce with the addition of finger lime. Pig's-head terrine is the tip of the iceberg in Kelly's commitment to whole-animal butchery, one of many uses for the McIvor Farm pigs he sources. Dark-crusted sourdough baked in the wood-burning oven, and two types of house-made pasta are anchor items. You might also find gnocchi in swirls of cavolo-nero puree and comte cream with a generous shaving of black truffle, and spanner-crab ravioli with a bisque that uses fermented pumpkin in place of tomato.
