Australian teachers union urges educators to use ‘gender-neutral' terms in the classroom

New York Post25-06-2025
The NSW Teachers Federation union has called for 'gender-neutral' greetings in classrooms in a push for schools to become more 'inclusive'.
The quarterly magazine article released by the union has angered some educators and suggests using the terms 'epic and awesome humans' instead of 'boys and girls', to avoid gendered language.
'While most teachers have moved away from saying phrases like 'Okay boys and girls', there are times when we may, accidentally, be addressing whole classes or groups using gendered language,' the Journal of the NSW Teachers Federation wrote.

Speaking to Sky News, Colleen Harkin, Institute of Public Affairs Schools Program Director and Research Fellow, said the attempt at inclusivity is 'nothing but virtue signaling'.
'Parents would rightfully be appalled at this latest attempt to jam even more woke activism into classrooms,' Harkin said.
'As a former teacher myself, my students would have rightfully laughed me out of the room had I attempted to call them 'epic and awesome humans'. It's a dehumanizing pursuit of ideological conformity that denies biological reality.'

The article also includes 'subject specific' terms. It suggests music students be referred to as composers and math students as 'mathematicians, critical thinkers or problem solvers'.
There are also 'empowering' terms including 'experts, intellectuals, learners, future leaders, change makers and superstars'.
The article suggests English students are referred to as 'readers, writers, actors, playwrights and poets'.

Some teachers wrote into 2GB radio station with concerns.
'Words such as 'experts' and 'intellectuals' have a clear definition and meaning in society,' one teacher said.
'We're now expected to categorize students in Year 9 woodworking class, with the ranks of intellectuals.'

The limited edition 'Meal of Misfortune,' inspired by Wednesday Addams. Wendy's The Context Season 1 of Wednesday, released in 2022 and starring Jenna Ortega, was Netflix's most watched English-language TV show with 252.1 million viewers according to Netflix's companion site, Tudum. The company is rolling out several new meals and initiatives this year, including the "Meal of Misfortune," a "100 Days of Summer" program, and a collaboration with Takis snacks. What Is in Wendy's 'Meal of Misfortune'? A press release from Wendy's says that the meal was "designed by Wednesday Addams." The "Meal of Misfortune" centers on four new mystery "Dips of Dread"— You Can't Hyde, This Will Sting, Grave Mistake, and Nowhere to Woe. Each meal comes with two randomly selected sauces. The bundle includes "Rest in 10-Piece" Nuggets, small "Cursed & Crispy" Fries, and the debut of the "Raven's Blood" Frosty, a vanilla Frosty with a dark cherry swirl. The press release states that people will have to buy multiple meals in order to try all four sauces. The meal will be available through restaurants and the Wendy's app in the U.S. from August 4, followed by releases in Canada starting August 11 as well as in Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and Guam. Wendy's has not specified an end date for the promotion. Who Is Wednesday Addams? Wednesday Addams is a gothic child who first appeared in American popular culture in 1938 as a member of the Addams family, a cartoon family invented by artist Charles Addams for The New Yorker. The Addams family was then turned into a sitcom in 1964, and has had its stories rebooted in several films and TV shows since. Wednesday is the latest iteration of Addams family lore. It focuses on Wednesday's teenage school years at Nevermore Academy, a fictional school for outcast and quirky children. What People Are Saying Liz Geraghty, international chief marketing officer for The Wendy's Company, said in a press release: "This isn't a typical collaboration, because not just any brand could scheme up a Meal of Misfortune with Wednesday Addams. But for a brand that's proudly customer-obsessed and unapologetically bold, it was a match made in dark, dry-witted heaven." The character of Wednesday Addams was quoted in the press release, saying: "Normally I'd be against this kind of capitalistic corporate synergy, but when the fast-food-slinging pigtailed provocateur said I could do whatever I wanted to her customers, I couldn't resist." What Happens Next The first half of Wednesday Season 2 airs on Netflix on August 6. Wednesday has already been renewed for a third season.

Blue Lock Season 3: Latest updates on release date, cast and plot details

By Aman Shukla Published on July 24, 2025, 18:30 IST Last updated July 24, 2025, 11:06 IST Yo, Blue Lock fans, are you as pumped as we are for Season 3? After that absolute banger of a Season 2 finale, fans are losing their minds waiting for more ego-fueled soccer chaos. Let's cut to the chase and talk about what we know (or think we know) about Blue Lock Season 3's release date, who's voicing the squad, and what crazy plot twists are coming our way. When's Blue Lock Season 3 Dropping? Alright, here's the deal: as of July 2025, there's no official 'Season 3 is coming!' announcement. Total bummer, I know. But Blue Lock is basically printing money with its hype, and the manga's got tons of juicy content left. Season 2, with that epic Japan U-20 match, wrapped up in December 2024. Anime studios usually need a hot minute—think 12 to 18 months—to cook up a new season. So, my bet? We're looking at late 2025 or maybe early 2026 for Season 3. Studio 8bit doesn't mess around with those crisp animations, so we are cool waiting for them to do it right. Wanna stay in the know? Keep tabs on Blue Lock 's X page or Crunchyroll's updates. They'll spill the tea first. Who's Voicing the Blue Lock Season 3 Crew? The voice cast is like the secret sauce of Blue Lock —they make these characters pop off the screen. We are pretty sure we'll see our faves back in action. Here's the lineup we are expecting: Yoichi Isagi (Kazuki Ura in Japanese, Ricco Fajardo in English) Meguru Bachira (Tasuku Kaito in Japanese, Drew Breedlove in English) Rin Itoshi (Kouki Uchiyama in Japanese, Matt Shipman in English) Jinpachi Ego (Hiroshi Kamiya in Japanese, Derick Snow in English) And hold up—new characters are crashing the party! Michael Kaiser, voiced by the legend Mamoru Miyano, is gonna be a game-changer. He's this cocky German striker from Bastard München, and we are already obsessed. Also, Sae Itoshi, Rin's big bro, is stepping up, and their family drama is gonna be chef's kiss . Can't wait to hear these voices bring the heat! What's Going Down in Blue Lock Season 3's Plot? Okay, let's talk plot, because Season 3 is about to go global. We are betting it'll tackle the Neo-Egoist League arc from the manga, and holy cow, it's intense. After the Blue Lock squad owned Japan's U-20 team in Season 2, they're now thrown into this insane international setup. The Neo-Egoist League has them training with five U-20 teams—Germany, England, Spain, Italy, and France—to gear up for the U-20 World Cup. Here's what to expect: World-Class Action : The boys are facing off with international pros, learning new tricks and getting humbled. Isagi vs. Kaiser Showdown : Michael Kaiser's this smug genius, and his battles with Isagi are gonna be straight fire. Itoshi Brothers Drama : Rin and Sae's beef is next-level, and we're getting deep into their past. Grab the tissues! Insane Matches: Studio 8bit's gonna make these games look like a Hollywood blockbuster. Those goals? Cinematic. This arc is all about ego, teamwork, and pushing limits. Isagi's gotta evolve, Rin's got demons to face, and the stakes are sky-high. Ahmedabad Plane Crash Aman Shukla is a post-graduate in mass communication . Hungary bans Irish rap group Kneecap from the country

The Hungarian government has banned Irish rap group Kneecap from the country for 'for antisemitism and glorifying terrorm,' on Thursday. Photo by Hugo Philpott/UPI | License Photo July 24 (UPI) -- The Hungarian government has banned Irish rap group Kneecap from the country "for anti-Semitism and glorifying terrorism," on Thursday. "This is what we call service by public notice. In plain English: if you won't read the letter, you'll see it on the poster," international spokesman Zoltan Kovacs posted on X. Kneecap members have accused Israel of committing war crimes in Gaza and supporting Iranian militant groups. Israel denied these claims. The group's lead singer Mo Chara has allegedly displayed a flag in support of Hezbollah and has been charged with a terror offense in the U.K. he has denied doing this. "This isn't just protest it's support for terror, celebration of extremist violence and a clear anti‑Semitic statement," Kovacs wrote on X. "Granting them a stage normalizes hate and terror, and puts democratic values on the line." The group was going to perform at the Sziget Festival in Budapest on Aug 11. "This is an unprecedented move which we believe is both unnecessary and regrettable," Sziget organizers said on social media.
