Prince William's 'true feelings' on key Trooping the Colour role
With the Trooping the Colour celebrations right around the corner, Royal Family is busy preparing for the momentous day. As is tradition, senior royals are set to mount their horses and follow the King's carriage in a procession from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards Parade.
While King Charles will be reportedly riding in the carriage alongside his wife, Queen Camilla, Prince William will join Princess Anne and Prince Edward and follow the procession on horseback. As the Colonel of the Welsh Guards, William rode alongside other senior royals in the 2024 Trooping the Colour procession, as he sported the red uniform with a leek symbol on the neckline paired with a traditional bearskin cap adorned with the regiment's white and green plume.
He also wore his Most Noble Order of the Garter Sash, Royal Air Force Pilot Wings and four medals: the Gold, Diamond, and Platinum Jubilee medals, plus the Coronation Medal.
And a source told the Sunday Times how the heir to the throne feels about taking part on horseback, saying: "He really enjoys it."
William's thoughts on riding ahorse during the Trooping the Colour procession comes after it was reported that the King would be riding in a carriage for a second year.
While Charles is not expected to ride at the parade again, this weekend's event will be the first time that the Princess Royal has ridden in public since she was hospitalised following a suspected horse injury last year.
Anne, 74, plans to ride in the parade this year in her role as gold stick, the colonel of the Blues and Royals, alongside the Duke of Edinburgh as colonel of the Scots Guards and London Guards and Prince William.
King Charles rode in the parade for many years, both for his mother's birthday celebrations and his own, but due to his ongoing battle with cancer, the 76-year-old monarch will reportedly again travel in a carriage as he also did last year.
A royal aide recently opened up about King Charles's health, saying: "The thing you learn about this illness [cancer] is that you just manage it. And that's what he does." The aide continued: "Medical science has made incredible advances and I genuinely see no difference in him... As long as you just do what the doctors say, just live your life as normal as possible."
The royal aide elaborated: "It's no secret that he is still having treatment but because he is incredibly fit, he is just dealing with it all incredibly well. As everybody knows he is driven by duty, so he just gets on with it."
The last time the King rode at the ceremony was in 2023, which was the first time a monarch had ridden in the parade since Queen Elizabeth did in 1986. After the late Queen's trusty horse retired, she travelled in a carriage from 1987 until her final appearance in 2022, when she took the salute from the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
The Trooping the Colour event, which takes place every year in June, has been held to mark the sovereign's official birthday since the accession of King George IV in 1820, except during the world wars and a national strike in 1955. In 2020, a scaled-back version of the celebration was held at Windsor Castle due to the Covid pandemic.
Trooping the Colour 2025, officially known as The King's Birthday Parade, will take place on Saturday June 14, in London.

Before the team headed off for the championships, he visited the team at their St George's Park training ground, where he told them: "The men's team could definitely learn off your camaraderie and your team environment. 'You're brilliant together, you create a very unique unit that is rare in lots of other sports. So hold onto that, treasure that, build on it, because it's one of your greatest assets." William previously presented the England women's team with the trophy when they won the 2022 Women's Euros after beating Germany at Wembley. However, he came in for heavy criticism when in 2023, he did not travel to Australia to support the team when they reached the World Cup final against Spain the following year, which they ultimately lost. William's announcement that he will journey to Switzerland for the final match comes after King Charles also issued a statement to send his congratulations to the Lionesses after reaching the final. In a statement posted on social media, the King said: 'My wife and I join all our family in wishing you, the proud Lionesses, our warmest congratulations on reaching the final of the Uefa Euro tournament. The 'worrying' royal protocol Prince William and Prince George will NOT follow, according to experts on Palace Confidential
Prince George turned 12 on July 22 - an important milestone for the future king in more ways than one. On the latest episode of Palace Confidential, the Mail's panel of experts discussed the new royal protocol the young prince faces - and the reasons why he and his father Prince William will not be following it. Citing a former royal helicopter pilot, Richard Eden, the Daily Mail's Diary Editor, said: 'When Prince William reached the age of 12, he stopped travelling with his father so they had separate flights. Obviously, that is to guarantee the line of succession. 'It will be very interesting to see whether that's the case with George and William because we know they have travelled together either via plane, helicopter or car.' But this is when Rebecca English, the Daily Mail's Royal Editor, who has been covering the royal beat since 2004, interjected. 'I spoke to the Palace this week,' she said, 'and they were like "Well, it's kind of news to us." 'I get the impression that the family won't be changing their travel arrangements at all.' Jo Elvin, who hosts the hit YouTube show as well as making regular appearances on ITV's Lorraine, was puzzled by the Palace's response. 'I remember being a kid and my father telling me about that as a bit of royal protocol,' she said. 'It's weird.' 'Yeah,' Richard said. 'They don't like talking about security and talking about travel arrangements. 'But I have to say, I mean, it's not a very tasteful discussion, but it is the future of our royal family and I personally find it very worrying. 'Look, after the Wales Family, we have Harry and Meghan!' he exclaimed. 'I'm sure this isn't true but there were some rumours that Meghan had said something about "we're only one plane crash away from being on the throne." Pleading to the Wales Family, he said: 'Come on, even though it's not great for the environment, please put George on a separate flight and a separate helicopter from his father.' This does not seem to align with the wishes of King Charles and the late Queen Elizabeth II - both of whom expressed their concerns about the Wales Family flying together. 'Not only do they travel together,' Richard explained, 'Prince William, who is a qualified helicopter pilot, actually flies the helicopter. 'According to Robert Jobson's book, the King didn't like William flying the whole family and urged him to stop. 'It is something that Queen Elizabeth expressed her concerns about as well. I think she was always keen to make sure that she did travel separately from the heir-to-the-throne Charles. 'It is a matter of some importance, I would say,' he added. Speaking exclusively to MailOnline, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams added important historical context as to why this rule was followed so ardently by the late Queen. The experienced royal commentator told MailOnline that the bizarre rule was established following a string of tragic deaths in the family involving aircrafts. 'The unexpected can happen, as with Prince William of Gloucester's tragic death in 1972, though this was in a competition,' Richard said. 'Prince George, Duke of Kent also died in a plane crash in 1942, which has become controversial. 'Prince Philip's sister, Cecile, died in a plane crash in 1937, giving birth to a stillborn child,' he added. These tragedies have only served to reinforce the Royal Family's belief in ensuring the heirs travel separately. Richard noted that a similar policy exists across the pond where the President never travels by plane with the Vice-President. Whilst this new royal protocol may be one that the Wales Family choose not to follow, it is just one of many rules George and his siblings are subject to. These include always travelling with a change of black clothes should a member of the family die unexpectedly. This rule was introduced after King George VI died while Elizabeth was in Kenya and she did not have any black clothes. The children also face limits on what they can and can't wear with the girls expected to wear dresses and the boys must wear shorts. On top of this, they can never eat shellfish while on a royal tour to avoid food poisoning.

Prince William has 'quite a friendship' with A-lister who 'held private royal meeting'
Prince William is said to have developed quite a close bond with a popular Hollywood star over the years, due to their love for the same passion Prince William 's appearances with Tom Cruise go further than what the camera has shown, according to the Daily Mail's Richard Eden. The Top Gun star has been pictured with King Charles ' eldest son and his wife Kate Middleton on more than one occasion. Back in 2022, he mingled with the royals at the premiere of his film Top Gun: Maverick as they walked the red carpet. Other pictures showed the 63-year-old holding onto Kate's hand, and also having a laugh with the future King and Queen. In February 2024, Tom and William were seen joking together again, and posing for snaps together at London's Air Ambulance Charity Gala Dinner in London. According to Richard, the pair have "developed quite a friendship over the years" due to their shared love for aviation. Speaking on the Daily Mail Royals YouTube channel, he added: "Indeed, he and Catherine are said to be big fans of the Top Gun franchise, having attended the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick in 2022." According to My London, Tom said of his friendship with the royals at the event: "We have a lot in common. We both love England and we're both aviators, we both love flying." Richard also mentioned that the actor reportedly hosted a private screening of the film for the royal couple at Kensington Palace that same year. Speaking of their appearance at the gala together, he continued: "So with Tom Cruise by his side, William made his first public comments about the King's shock cancer diagnosis at the gala dinner for London's Air ambulance charity, of which he is the patron." Buckingham Palace announced that Charles had an undisclosed form of cancer in February 2024. Just weeks after this news was made public, Kate also revealed that she too was receiving treatment for cancer. Addressing the crowd at the event at the time, the Prince of Wales said: "I'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you, also, for the kind messages of support for Catherine and for my father, especially in recent days. It means a great deal to us all. "It's fair to say the past few weeks have had a rather medical focus. So I thought I'd come to an air ambulance function to get away from it all!". William went on to make a joke about Tom, who is known for his high-flying film stunts. He said: "Here in London, the current aircraft have served magnificently. But our capital city needs a new fleet. "And we are up against time. The clue really is in the Appeal's name. By September, we need the two new red birds - decked with the latest kit such as night vision - in our skies. "I should also take this opportunity to give a mention to my - our - fellow pilot, Tom Cruise. Tom, huge thanks for supporting us tonight." Tom's encounters with royals go all the way back to the early 1990s. Photos at the time show him meeting Princess Diana, and later attending her funeral in 1997. In 2017, he was also seen chatting to the now late Prince Philip at the 75th anniversary of the Outward Bound Trust at Buckingham Palace.
