Father's Day 2025: Gift ideas based on your dad's personality

GMA Network31-05-2025
Father's Day falls on June 15 this year, which means you've still got plenty of time to find a thoughtful and personal gift for your dad.
GMA News Online has rounded up gift ideas to match the vibe of your papa.
1. For the master chef-wanna be kusinero father: Consider a new cutlery set, or perhaps a blender?
Some dads there are proving to be the king of the kitchen, and if your dad falls into this category, help him turn his meal prep easier with the Oneida Vanguard 13-Piece Cutlery Set (P16,500). It includes all the basics from paring and chef knives to steak knives and shears. The high-carbon stainless steel blades stay sharp, and the hardwood block keeps everything organized.
Oneida Vanguard 13-Piece Cutlery Set is available at Rustan's Makati and Rustans.com.
If he's the type to be concocting sauces, dips, and what-have-you, consider the Ninja Blast Portable Blender (P4,495). It's lightweight, USB-chargeable, and designed for on-the-go blending anytime, anywhere so he can be concocting sauces, dips, and what-have-you just about anywhere!
SharkNinja's pop-up store in Glorietta 1, Makati City, is open daily until October 16.
2. For a malakad Dad: A pair of stylish new shoes
A stylish pair of shoes is always a solid gift idea. If your dad loves showing off his 'shoefie' game, head to the nearest Res Toe Run and explore the latest Spring/Summer 2025 collection.
With top picks from brands like Tretorn, Tree Runner, and crowd-favorite Birkenstock, there's something to match every style, with prices ranging from P1,490 to P6,000.
3. For a music lover father: speakers sound like a good idea
If your dad has a playlist for every mood, he deserves a speaker that can keep up and let the whole household enjoy his mixes.
The Bose SoundLink Revolve+ II Bluetooth Speaker is a beautifully engineered portable speaker for any occasion, whether for backyard gatherings, quiet mornings with coffee, or simply for his favorite playlist on repeat in the house.
The Bose SoundLink Revolve+ II Bluetooth Speaker (P20,990) is available in Bose stores and online.
4. For the selfie-ready dad: A water flosser
If your dad never misses a photo op with his charming smile, why not gift him something to help keep him camera-ready?
Unlike traditional floss, a water flosser like the Waterpik Cordless Select WF-10K (P4,650) and Waterpik Express Cordless Water Flosser WF-02 (P3,200) uses a steady stream of water to clean between teeth and along the gum line, reaching areas that may be hard to access using a thread, making your dad's dental care routine a walk in the park.
Waterpik is available via Lazada and TikTok.
5. For the scent-sational dad: a new pabango or two!
Is your dad the type to make a statement through scent? Gift him a new pabango!
The Guess Uomo Intenso (P3,250/50ml). It's a fresh yet warm scent that blends bergamot, mint, and sandalwood – a confident pick for the kind of dad who makes an impression without even trying.
Or consider the Givenchy Gentleman Society Ambree Eau de Parfum (P5,715/60ml), a floral-woody scent that embodies quiet confidence and refined style. Give this to a dad who appreciates the finer things in life and isn't afraid to stand out.
Both are available at Rustan's Makati and Rustans.com.
6. For your active father: a water bottle
Motivate your dad to stay hydrated with the Noerden LIZ+ Smart Bottle (P3,850), a sleek, self-cleaning bottle with UV-C tech that claims to kill 99.99% of germs while keeping beverages hot or cold for 24 hours.
The LIZ+ Smart Bottle is available at Rustan's Makati City and Rustans.com.
7. For the Super(wo)man: an elegant carry
Yes, it's Father's Day, so single moms deserve to be celebrated, too.
Show your appreciation with the golden minaudière from TUMI's 50th limited-edition collection (price upon request). There are only 250 pieces worldwide, so this elegant accesory makes a meaningful gift for a single mom who is just as irreplaceable.
Tumi is located at Greenbelt 5, Makati City.

Kara David shares words of wisdom for young, aspiring journalists

Kara David has words of wisdom for young, aspiring journalists. The journalist, who is celebrating her 30th anniversary in the media industry, shared some wise pieces of advice with GMA News Online after renewing her contract with GMA Network on Tuesday. Number one, David shared, is not to stop studying—and that goes outside the classroom. 'Hindi lang academic ha, pero 'yung learning from people,' David said. ''Wag tumigil sa pag-aaral.' David's second piece of advice is not to be arrogant. 'Kailangan i-keep mo 'yung humility mo palagi. Kailangan nakatapak sa lupa kasi walang isang taong may monopolyo sa lahat ng talento sa mundo,' she said. Her final piece of advice? Remember that journalism or storytelling is a selfless act. 'Lagi mong tandaan na ginagawa mo 'to hindi para sa sarili mo, pero para sa mas nakararaming tao,' she said. 'Kapag ang puso mo ay nasa tama, na ginagawa mo 'to kasi serbisyong totoo ang hanap mo, tutulungan ka ng universe if it's not selfishly for yourself. [Kapag] selfless—ibig sabihin for other people—the universe will conspire for your dreams." David also looked back on her journey as an aspiring journalist. In her speech, she shared that she failed her job application exams and auditions back in 1995, but that it was only GMA Network that took a chance on her. When asked what advice she could give to her younger self, David shared it would be to never give up. 'Hindi ka lang maiintindihan ngayon pero darating 'yung panahon na mahahanap mo 'yung boses mo,' she said. 'Siguro now is not your time pero that doesn't mean you should quit. David added that a person should just keep trying because everything, eventually, will make sense. 'Mag-a-align lahat ng stars in the universe para ibigay sa 'yo kung ano 'yung nararapat na para sa 'yo. And kahit walang nakikinig, magkwento ka pa rin nang magkwento.' David is known for her documentaries and for hosting shows like 'I-Witness' and 'Pinas Sarap.' She is also a journalism professor at the University of the Philippines Diliman, founder of the organization Project Malasakit, and former chair of the UP Department of Journalism. —CDC, GMA Integrated News

AZ Martinez on fan ship with Ralph De Leon: 'Kinikilig ako!'

During her time as a housemate in 'Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition,' AZ Martinez built a close relationship and undeniable chemistry with fellow housemate Ralph De Leon, thus the birth of the fan ship AZRalph. In an interview with GMA News Online, the fourth big placer said that she feels 'kilig' watching all the fan edits of her and Ralph on social media. 'Grabe 'yung ano... I tried scrolling sa TikTok po. Puno ng AZRalph, puno ng AZRalph. Oh my God. Nakikita ko yung mga edits. Ang cute tignan. Of course, kinikilig ako panoorin kasi wow, ang cute. Ganito pala 'yung hitsura,' AZ said. The Sparkle star added that she was happy to know that there are people supporting her and Ralph. 'Patuloy pa rin 'yung laban and I know Ralph deserves so much. Pero ayun, thank you so much. Sobrang grateful kami ni Ralph sa lahat ng AZRalph. Sa AZRalph official, sobrang thank you po,' she said. AZRalph is among the most popular fanships that blossomed in 'Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition.' AZ and Ralph started out as the RAZ duo and their closeness eventually led to them getting teased often. Both of them later denied having feelings for each other, but how they continue to act towards each other and be there for each other makes fans wish that the ship would sail. Among their most iconic and viral moments are when they got drunk on separate occasions and sought each other out. And of course, their reunion after Ralph's eviction and dramatic wildcard comeback gripped the nation after a week-long wait. Following the conclusion of PBB, AZ and Ralph captured their first-ever selfie together outside the house, sparking kilig vibes among their loyal fans. Ralph and his duo Will Ashley (RaWi) finished as the second big placer duo during the Big Night, while AZ and her duo River Joseph (AZVer) were named as the fourth big placer. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
