Sabah among top 5 in terms of projects: Hajiji

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah is among the top five states in the country in terms of development projects and programmes completion, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor (pic). Based on the MyProjek report, he said a total of 1,271 projects, comprising 396 continuity projects and 876 new ones, are being implemented this year in Sabah. 'Of the figure, 1,171 projects or RM5.584 billion are physical projects while another 100 or RM355.24 million are non-physical projects. I urge everyone to step up to ensure Sabah achieves the best in terms of projects or programmes implementation in Malaysia,' he said when chairing the State Development Action Council (MTPNg) meeting at Menara Kinabalu here Thursday. Despite the good performance, the Chief Minister emphasised that it should not be an excuse to become complacent and slow down the momentum in monitoring government programmes or projects. 'Instead, it should serve as an indicator for us to work harder to improve and complete every programme and project more swiftly, accurately and in an orderly manner, ultimately bringing benefits to all the people,' he said. Hajiji said the implementation of programmes and projects should not solely fall on the shoulders of one agency, rather all agencies and ministries should play a significant role in ensuring their success. The Chief Minister said the State Government has also made efforts to strengthen the State's financial governance by enhancing financial management procedures and guidelines. This is carried out through the evaluation and consideration of procurement procedures as well as the appointment of concessions as a mechanism to address development issues in the State, he said. 'In addition, each agency or ministry must monitor more frequently the disbursement of allocated funds to ensure they are fully utilised and benefit the people. 'Payments to contractors and consultants must also be made promptly, accurately and in an orderly fashion to ensure that project implementation in the state is not disrupted or delayed,' he said. The Chief Minister also reminded the Council to ensure all pressing development needs are addressed swiftly. Hajiji said the State Government is also relentless in carrying out initiatives under the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan to implement income enhancement and productivity improvement programmes to address the poor and hardcore poor issues, which is dynamic. 'Through these initiatives, we are not only helping to increase income but also strive to assist targeted groups to get out of poverty. 'Our concern is also evident through our relentless efforts and hard work in ensuring that every national or State agenda is adhered to, improved upon and further enhanced,' he said. Hajiji said the continuous provision of needs and facilities to the people, through the upgrading of public amenities, basic facilities, social infrastructure and social service assistance, has provided multiple benefits to the poor in Sabah. In addition, he said the Human Capital and People's Wellbeing thrust in the Hala Tuju SMJ Development Plan also focuses on developing the potential of the people through education, training and social wellbeing. Hajiji expected to announce Gagasan Rakyat's direction for state polls tomorrow
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor is expected to make a "major' announcement tomorrow on the future direction of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) for the 17th Sabah state election. The announcement is believed to be related to a key motion addressing the party's readiness to face the polls, which is expected to be tabled during Gagasan Rakyat's Annual General Assembly. Hajiji, who is also the party president, is scheduled to launch the assembly. "Yes, just wait for my speech this Sunday," he said when met after launching the Gagasan Rakyat Information Seminar in conjunction with the party's Annual General Assembly at the Sabah International Convention Centre here yesterday. Also present were Gagasan Rakyat deputy president Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun and information chief Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan. Hajiji was asked about the possibility of a major motion related to Gagasan Rakyat's direction ahead of the state polls being decided during the assembly, which begins today with wing-level meetings. Previously, Gagasan Rakyat's partners in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition voiced support for the local-based coalition to contest the state election independently. Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR), both GRS component parties, expressed their support for GRS to go solo during their recent joint convention. Hajiji, however, has remained tight-lipped on the matter, saying only that discussions between GRS and Pakatan Harapan (PH) will be decided soon. He had earlier mentioned the possible dissolution of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly to pave the way for state polls, with the announcement potentially being made during his speech on Sunday. On yesterday's seminar, Hajiji said it was a gathering of information chiefs from all divisions and party levels. "We are mobilising our machinery to explain the party's struggle and what the current government has achieved. This must be conveyed to the people," he said. Hajiji said the seminar aimed to ensure Gagasan Rakyat leaders at all levels intensify their preparations ahead of the state polls.

He expressed hope that nautical tourism such as this will soon become one of the main tourist attractions or activities in the State. 'Sabah offers a variety of sailing experiences and, in fact, there is strong potential to become a sailing destination given our beautiful and pristine beaches. 'I believe nautical tourism or recreational sailing activities have the potential to attract more visitors to Sabah, and in turn, generate economic spillovers for the local communities. 'Therefore, we need to seize the prospects of sailing activities given the State's strategic location with its natural advantages and many waterways. 'Just like Dalit Beach, with its stunning coastline, rich cultural diversity and strategic location facing the South China Sea, this area holds great potential to become a world-class tourism destination,' he said when officiating the Dalit Bay Nautica 2025 event, Friday. His speech was delivered by Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Joniston Bangkuai. The Chief Minister said the event will also help to boost tourism, promote cultural heritage and stimulate economic activity in the State. 'This will definitely put Sabah on the global coastal map and is a good indicator of growth in the State's tourism sector. 'Without a doubt, this event will further diversify our tourism offerings and help us achieve our target of 3.5 million tourist arrivals to Sabah this year. 'As the second largest state in Malaysia, Sabah has everything to offer, from deep seas to towering mountains. This makes Sabah one of the world-class tourism destinations.
