'I think it's going to be a great success'
Noni Madueke says he "can't wait to bring my style" to Arsenal after completing £48.5m move from 23-year-old has joined on a five-year contract, with his fee rising to just over £50m with made 92 appearances for the Blues after joining from PSV Eindhoven for £30m in January 2023 and scored 20 goals, helping them win the Conference League last was part of Crystal Palace and then Tottenham's academy before spending four-and-a-half years in the Netherlands, where he won the Dutch to Arsenal's website he said: "I'm somebody who goes with my gut feeling a lot of the time and I feel like it's steered me in the right direction so far. So, I don't think it's going to be any different here. I think it's going to be a great success and I'm really happy to be here."I've just been relaxed, waiting for the green light and when I came in today, it all felt real. I'm really happy and really proud, so it's a great moment for me. It's great to go back home, be with my mum, my dad. I know my mum misses me in the house!"It's already a great team with a clear identity and I can't wait to bring my style to the team and try and help the boys as much as possible to take that next step."To win all the competitions we're in [is the goal], I feel like we're definitely capable of doing that. And also to help the team in every way I can and grow as a player, but also as a person."Gunners boss Mikel Arteta added: "We're all so happy to welcome Noni Madueke to the team."Noni is an exciting and powerful young player, with his performances and numbers in recent seasons being of consistently high quality. He is one of the most talented wide forward players in the Premier League."At just 23, Noni already brings experience of club and international football, and he knows the Premier League very well. Having seen the quality of Noni's performances up close in recent seasons, we're really excited he is joining us."

Arsenal land £50m Noni Madueke – this data explains why they wanted him
Noni Madueke has said 'gut feeling' led him to Arsenal this summer after the England winger completed his move from Chelsea in a deal worth an initial £48 million. Madueke will wear the number 20 shirt in north London as he competes with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli for a place on the wings. Arsenal's interest in Madueke prompted a negative reaction from some sections of their fanbase but the club are convinced the 23-year-old represents excellent value for money. Madueke's move represents a homecoming of sorts, as he was born and raised in north London. He spent time with Tottenham Hotspur's academy in his younger years. 'I'm somebody who goes with my gut feeling a lot of the time and I feel like it's steered me in the right direction so far,' Madueke said. 'So, I don't think it's going to be any different here. I think it's going to be a great success and I'm really happy to be here. 'I've just been relaxed, waiting for the green light and when I came in today, it all felt real. I'm really happy and really proud, so it's a great moment for me. It's great to go back home, be with my mum, my dad. I know my mum misses me in the house! 'It's already a great team with a clear identity and I can't wait to bring my style to the team and try and help the boys as much as possible to take that next step.' Due to his exploits with England earlier this summer and his time with Chelsea at the Club World Cup, Madueke will not be part of Arsenal's travelling squad for their pre-season tour to Asia this weekend. He will join up with the team in August. Why did Arsenal want Madueke? The answer might lie in his underlying data It is not Noni Madueke's fault that Arsenal keep signing players from Chelsea, but the England winger has certainly paid the price for it in recent weeks. The level of abuse aimed towards him from certain sections of the online Arsenal fanbase has been extraordinarily grim, and one can only hope he has not spent too much time reading it on social media. There was even a petition set up in an attempt to block his arrival. It has gained more than 5,000 signatures. Why are Arsenal supporters online so upset about their club signing an England international? There are a few factors, and the Chelsea element is probably the most significant. Many Arsenal fans are simply tired of signing players from rivals Chelsea, especially after the likes of Willian and Raheem Sterling proved so ineffective in north London. Another issue is the size of the fee, around £50 million, for a player who is widely expected to primarily serve as a back-up to Bukayo Saka on the right wing. Arsenal supporters do not like the idea of their club's money helping to fund Chelsea's extravagant player-trading model. Another problem is that Madueke's headline statistics have not been especially impressive since joining Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven. In 67 Premier League appearances, he has scored 13 goals and registered five assists. Perhaps the response to this deal would have been more positive if Madueke had enjoyed a fruitful end to the 2024-25 campaign. Alas, he has been lacking end product for much of the past few months: in his last 11 Premier League matches he failed to score and registered just one assist. In all competitions since the start of February, Madueke has three goals (all in the Europa Conference League) and one assist in 21 club appearances. What, then, do Arsenal see in Madueke? What aspects of the winger's game have made Mikel Arteta so keen to bring him into his squad? The answer might lie in Madueke's underlying data, which is generally far more eye-catching than his number of goals and assists. The most generous reading of Madueke's metrics, as measured by the statisticians at Opta, is that this is a player who could be on the brink of exploding into thrilling, match-winning form. Madueke ranks particularly highly among Premier League players for carries (driving forward with the ball) and for the number of shots he takes. Indeed, Madueke averaged 3.52 shots per game in the Premier League last season, the most of any Chelsea or Arsenal player. In the entire Premier League, he was the player who averaged the most carries leading to a shot per match. In other words, no player in the division was more willing to run with the ball and then fire a shot towards goal. Arsenal's analysts might also note that Madueke won possession for his team more frequently than both Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, Arsenal's first-choice wingers, last season. Only two Premier League wingers, Manchester City's Savinho and Jeremy Doku, dribbled the ball a greater distance with progressive carries last season. And only three Premier League players averaged more touches than Madueke in the opposition penalty area. The issue for Madueke was that he was largely unable to convert these promising opportunities into goals or assists, although the wayward finishing of his Chelsea team-mates may have contributed. Arsenal's coaching staff evidently believe they can refine the winger's final action, as they did with Kai Havertz following his move from Chelsea (Havertz's goals-per-game has improved from 0.23 to 0.33 since he arrived at Arsenal). Another attribute of Madueke that appeals to Arsenal is his versatility. Madueke can play on both flanks, and he can shoot with both feet (34 per cent of his shots last season were with his weaker right foot). In recent months he has frequently played on the left wing, having mostly operated from the right during his Chelsea career. Madueke therefore provides Arsenal with more flexibility and depth across the final third. On the most basic level, Madueke takes the place of Sterling in the Arsenal squad. Sterling was signed to provide cover on both wings last season, during his loan spell from Chelsea.

Tierney 'nothing to prove' over fitness on Celtic return
Kieran Tierney does not believe he has anything to "prove" over his fitness as he begins his second spell at Scotland defender, 28, has joined on a five-year contract, six years after departing for has been unavailable for spells over his time both with the Gunners and on loan at Real Sociedad, most recently due to a hamstring injury sustained at last summer's Euros which ruled him out for five months."Nah, nothing because I know how much I work professionally with myself, on my body, on my recovery, being as ready as I can be for games," Tierney said in response to a question about proving himself."So no, I'm not here to prove anything. I'm just here to do the best for Celtic and see where it goes."He added: "I still think I have the same work rate and determination, which was always my strong point. I try to carry them everywhere I go."No matter my age, what club or what position I play, I just try to give everything. That's what's got me this far." Tierney came through the Celtic youth academy and made his debut in 2015 aged just 17. A football love affair followed with the left-back scooping up four league titles, two Scottish Cups and two Scottish League Cups before being lured away to London in it's understandable that when the chance to come back to Celtic arose at the turn of the year, it was a straightforward decision."It's probably the easiest signing Celtic have had to make and the easiest decision I had to make," said Tierney."He [manager Brendan Rodgers] played a huge part but ultimately it's Celtic. I was always happy with it."I've loved playing under the gaffer, played so many games under him, so successful. I'm delighted to be back with him."The main part of coming back here was Celtic. It wasn't to be home." Celtic host Newcastle United in a friendly on Saturday and Tierney admits he probably will feel "nerves"."It'll be amazing," he said."It'll be special day, probably a bit of nerves as well because it's the first time I've done it in so long."I've grown up as a player, matured as a person as well so there'll be changes."I'll probably take on more of an experienced player role. There's the younger boys in the team that I can help along the way."
