
Tarn Taran: Ransom calls land two in police net in 3 cases
In the first case, Nishan Singh and Gursewak Singh alias Saba were arrested. The complainant, a resident of Jagatpura and a farmer, had given 4.25 acres of land on lease to his uncle Nishan Singh for the past 12 years. Recently, he decided to take the land back and started cultivating it himself. This led to a dispute. The complainant reportedly received WhatsApp calls with threats to his life and demands for extortion. The caller claimed to be a gangster.
Investigations revealed that the caller was Gursewak Singh alias Saba, who was in contact with Nishan Singh. The threats were made by Gursewak under Nishan's directions. They demanded extortion, said Pareek.
In another case, Mandeep Singh, currently in Dubai and related to someone from the complainant's village. He, along with associates, was trying to extort money. Legal proceedings including Look Out Circular (LOC) have been initiated.
In the third case, the complainant, a resident of Bhikhiwind, received WhatsApp calls where an unknown person claiming to be a gangster threatened to kill his family if ₹ 20 lakh was not paid.
He said, 'Investigations revealed the accused as Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi alias Panchi, residing in Dubai for the past 8 years and last visited Punjab about 2.5 years ago. He used the gangster name to scare and extort money. LOC has been issued to arrest the accused'.
'All three cases are under investigation. Police are working on uncovering gang connections, financial trails, and identifying additional associates. More arrests are expected', he added.

Jaipur: City cybercrime police Tuesday arrested one more accused from Bengaluru in connection with a 'digital arrest' scam wherein a 75-year-old man from Jaipur was duped of Rs 23.56 lakh. The accused, Sunny Kumar Sharma, is believed to be the mastermind of an inter-state cybercrime gang that defrauded people across multiple cities using similar tactics. The scam unfolded on May 23 when the victim received a phone call from a person posing as a Mumbai Police officer. The caller accused the man of involvement in a money laundering case, claiming that a mobile number purchased in his name was used to launder Rs 2.80 crore. He was told an arrest warrant was issued against him. To make the claim appear authentic, the fraudsters arranged a video call on WhatsApp with a fake CBI officer named Rohit Kumar Gupta and showed a fabricated courtroom scene in which a person dressed as a judge appeared to issue an arrest order. The first arrest was made on May 30, when police arrested Suresh Kumar Jat alias Surendra, a native of Jhunjhunu currently living in Delhi, who was found to be the main account holder. Three of his associates—Omprakash alias Nitesh from Sriganganagar, Vanshul alias Aryan alias Praveen from Churu, and Bhupesh Fagedia from Jhunjhunu—were also arrested from Sonipat Jail under production warrant and sent to judicial custody. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that Sunny Kumar Sharma, a 26-year-old from Munger, Bihar, now residing in Bengaluru, was the key figure behind the operation. Ludhiana: Realtor receives extortion call from man claiming to gangster's aide

According to the complaint, the caller identified himself as 'Raja' and said he was associated with Kaushal Chaudhary, a jailed gangster from Haryana who recently made headlines after claiming responsibility for the murder of gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria's mother in Batala. Hem Raj stated that the caller warned him to arrange the money or face fatal consequences. The caller also threatened his two sons, one of whom is based in Canada while the other lives in Ludhiana. The detailed threats and knowledge of his family's whereabouts further alarmed the complainant. ASI Gurbakhshish Singh, in-charge of Ramgarh police post, confirmed that a case has been registered against the unidentified accused under sections 308(2) (extortion), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 62 (attempt to commit an offence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). 'We are taking the matter seriously. Investigations are underway to trace the caller and verify any possible links to organized criminal networks,' he added.

The Balrampur administration initiated the demolition of a sprawling bungalow constructed on main Utraula-Mankapur Road, on Tuesday, after issuing three notices regarding illegal construction done on government land, local authorities confirmed. The authorities said the action was taken in the presence of a heavy police force and administrative officials, with five bulldozers deployed for the operation. Balrampur additional SP Vishal Pandey said, 'The entire demolition process will take at least two - three days to complete. The demolition began today at 10 am and continued till late in the evening.' Meanwhile, barricading was done around the property to avoid locals gathering during the demolition process. The property, located in Madhpur village under Utraula tehsil, was built on Gram Sabha land listed as Gata number 337/370. 'Our government is fully committed to the dignity and security of our sisters and daughters. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the activities of the accused, Jalaluddin, are not only anti-social but also anti-national. The Uttar Pradesh government will not show any leniency in maintaining law and order. The properties of the accused and all the criminals associated with his gang will be confiscated, and strict legal action will be taken against them,' chief minister Yogi Adityanath posted on X on Tuesday, while reacting to the Balrampur action, adding, ' There is no place in the state for those who disrupt peace, harmony, and women's safety. A senior police official said that Neetu alias Nasreen was arrested along with Jalaluddin Shah by UP Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Saturday in connection with the case registered under sections 121A, 153A, 417, and 420 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 3, 5(1), 5(2), 5(3), and 8(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021 in October 2024. He said Neetu alias Nasreen and her husband Naveen Rohra alias Jamaluudin and their minor daughter, who were originally Sindhis, were residents of Mumbai and they shifted to Balrampur after embracing Islam a few years ago. Naveen Rohra was arrested by UP ATS on charges of religious conversion on April 8 earlier this year. 'Three notices were issued to Neetu Naveen Rohra by the office of Utraula Tehsildar, Satyapal Prajapati. The first notice was issued on May 17, the second notice was issued on June 17 and the third notice was served on July 7 (Monday). The demolition process on encroachment was initiated on Tuesday after getting no reply from the illegal occupants,' said Balrampur district magistrate (DM), Pawan Agarwal.
