Watch: Harleen Deol Caught Napping As Bizarre Run Out Ends Promising Knock
Harleen Deol made 27 off 44 and was run out in a bizarre fashion thanks to a direct hit from Davidson Richards
Harleen Deol would have been livid with herself after being run out during India's four-wicket win over England in the first ODI held in Southampton on Wednesday. Deol had got the start in the chase of 259 having reached 27 off 43 with the help of four boundaries.
What should have been a routine single, turned into a disaster for the India middle-order batter after she pushed the fourth delivery of the 22nd over, bowled by Charlie Dean towards mid-on. Having sauntered to the other end, Deol neither grounded her bat nor her foot as Davidson Richards hit the bullseye.
The umpire turned to her TV counterpart after England's appeal for a run out and replays confirmed Deol's error had cost her dearly.

Young India fast bowler Kranti Goud landed early blows after England opted to bat first as she got rid of both the openers within the first four overs. A middle-order repair job courtesy captain Nat Sciver-Brunt (41) and Emma Lamb (39) helped in the recovery.
Sophia Dunkley top-scored for the hosts with 83 off 92 while David Richards struck 53 off 73 before a quick 19-ball 23* from Sophie Ecclestone took England to 258/6 in 50 overs.
India then chased down the target in 48.2 overs with allrounder Deepti Sharma hitting an unbeaten 62 off 64 with the help of three fours and a six. With the win, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side has taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
When is the 2nd India Women vs England Women ODI?
The second match of the series will be played on July 19 (Saturday) at the Lord's while the tour concludes with the third ODI scheduled for July 22 at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street.
Earlier, India created history by recording their maiden bilateral T20I series win over England. The visitors clinched the first two matches before losing the third and then securing the series by winning the fourth contest.

Ben Stokes Blasts 'Ridiculous' Injury Sub Idea But Gautam Gambhir 'All For It'
Rishabh Pant's injury during the opening day of the 4th Test has triggered a fierce debate. Has the time come for cricket to embrace the idea of introducing injury substitution? Well, the cricket world is a divided house with strong arguments emerging from either half. The likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Gautam Gambhir and Michael Vaughan have thrown their weights behind the suggestion that teams be allowed to replace an injured player during the course of a match, but England captain Ben Stokes thinks it's a 'ridiculous conversation' and needs to be 'shut down'. The debate has been triggered after Rishabh Pant broke his foot on the opening day of the recently concluded 4th Test between India and England. Pant retired out and returned to bat on the next day but was clearly struggling. He didn't keep wickets with India replacing him with Dhruv Jurel. Current rules limit the participation of an injury substitute to just fielding. However, in case of concussion, a like-to-like- replacement is permitted with the sub allowed to bat and bowl as well. India head coach Gambhir sees nothing wrong with changing the rules if it's clear that a player has suffered major injury. 'Absolutely, I'm all for it," Gambhir said. 'If the umpires and the match referee sees and feels that is a major injury, I think it's very important. It's very important to have this rule where you can get a substitute – that is, if it's very visible. There's nothing wrong in doing that, especially in a series like this where it's been such a closely-fought series in the previous three Test matches. Imagine if we would've had to play with 10 men against 11. How unfortunate would this be for us." However, England Test captain Stokes feels that teams could exploit the rule. 'I think it's absolutely ridiculous that there's a conversation around an injury replacement," Stokes said. 'I think that there would just be too many loopholes for teams to be able to go through. You pick your 11 for a game; injuries are part of the game. I completely understand the concussion replacement: player welfare, player safety. But I think the conversation should just honestly stop around injury replacements because if you stick me in an MRI scanner, I could get someone else in straightaway. 'If you stick anyone else with an MRI scanner, a bowler is going to show, 'Oh yeah, you've got a bit of inflammation around your knee. Oh sweet, we can get another fresh bowler in'. I just think that conversation should be shut down and stopped," he added. view comments First Published: July 28, 2025, 10:49 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Bianca Andreescu Rolls Ankle On Court, Goes On To Win Despite Injury
Last Updated: Bianca Andreescu, former US Open champion, was in tears after her Canadian Open win over Barbora Krejcikova, due to an ankle injury. Former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu, on Sunday, July 27, broke down in tears as she was visibly upset over an unfortunate injury after a tough victory over Barbora Krejcikova in the opening round of the Canadian Open. She lost in the qualifiers at Wimbledon and is desperately trying to make a comeback. Andreescu, a former World No. 4, has been struggling with injuries over the last five years, missing the Australian Open because of a knee problem in 2020. She twisted her ankle at the 2023 Miami Open and had to be taken out in a wheelchair. Andreescu had a nine-month break until her return at the French Open last year, was eliminated in the third round by Jasmine Paolini despite having beaten Anna Kalinskaya before and underwent an appendix surgery earlier this year, thus missing out on action for three more months. Memories of the 2023 Miami would have come back when Andreescu twisted her ankle on Sunday. Watch the video here: 'At the end, I got very lucky. It's very unfortunate. I don't know what to say. You guys are everything, honestly, thank you so so much. These moments are never easy. So, I was super happy to be able to pull it through," Andreescu said in the post-match interview, with tears in her eyes. Bianca Andreescu starts to tear up during her on-court interview after beating Barbora Krejcikova with an ankle injury in Montreal:'At the end I got very lucky. It's very unfortunate. I don't know what to say." 💔 — The Tennis Letter (@TheTennisLetter) July 28, 2025 Last week, Canada won the Hopman Cup for the first time when Andreescu and Felix Auger-Aliassime teamed up to defeat Italy's Lucia Bronzetti and Flavio Cobolli in Sunday's final at Bari. 'Let's Do It For The Country': Rishabh Pant Bids Goodbye As England Tour Ends
Last Updated: Rishabh Pant, India's vice-captain, batted with a fractured toe to help India put on a respectable score in the first innings of the Manchester Test. India's Test vice-captain Rishabh Pant has said that it was a basic gesture from his side to come out and bat with a fractured toe because he would do whatever it takes to make India win or put them forward in the game, adding that the team should now strive to draw the series for the country. Pant was on Sunday, July 27, ruled out of the fifth and final Test against England after sustaining a fracture to his right foot on the opening day of the fourth game in Manchester. Tamil Nadu's N Jagadeesan has been named as his replacement and it is expected that Dhruv Jurel will officially play at the Kia Oval, after having acted as a substitute for Pant in the third and fourth Tests. 'Just a gesture from my side, whatever it takes to make our team win or put the team forward instead of thinking about the personal goals, that was all for me. It's been amazing the way they have backed me," Pant said while speaking to the BCCI. In the video, he was also seen throwing his gloves to the fans in the stands. The Indian Test vice-captain retired hurt on 37 on Day 1 of the Test in Manchester and went for X-rays after taking a blow to his right foot while attempting a reverse sweep off England pacer Chris Woakes. 'It's very difficult to even put in the feeling that he would be going through in words because he has fractured his toe and he is in pain no matter what. I even saw his foot; it was swollen badly," Washington Sundar said on the video. 'So for him to even walk around actually takes a lot, but he did a lot more than that. The whole country is proud of him and he is just the son of the country, I would say," Sundar added. Pant returned to bat after the fall of Shardul Thakur's wicket with India at 314/6 and went on to score an audacious half-century. 'The only message I am going to give my team is, let's win it, guys. Let's do it for the country," Pant signed off. view comments First Published: July 28, 2025, 10:14 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
