Al Ahli SFC's title is for fans: Jaissle
Jeddah
Matthias Jaissle paid equal tribute to the fans after Al Ahli Saudi FC were crowned AFC Champions League Elite 2024/25 winners following a 2-0 win against Kawasaki Frontale on Saturday.
While Jaissle hailed his players for maintaining the high standards they have set throughout the campaign with another impressive display in the final, he was immensely thankful to the support from the stands as over 58,000 packed the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium.
'I'm so proud of the players for how they were doing, how they were performing, how the journey went in this competition,' said Jaissle.
'Also the fans who created an amazing atmosphere, which we never take for granted. Together we can achieve special things and that was tonight. It's nice to give something back to the supporters.'
The title of Asian champions has come just three years after Al Ahli were relegated from the Saudi Pro League, which Jaissle said made their triumph even more deserving.
'It's been a crazy journey. Not that long ago, it looked completely different. Incredible how much support they (the fans) bring to the club and the guys delivered today to bring something back that they deserve.'
Unlike their previous two AFC Champions League Elite Finals Jeddah 2025 matches where they took the lead inside the opening 10 minutes, Al Ahli actually had a fight on their hands against Japan's Frontale before Galeno's 35th minute wonder strike settled their nerves.
With their confidence boosted, Al Ahli began to play free-flowing football with Franck Kessie doubling their advantage before the break with the Saudi Pro League then opting for a controlled display in the second half.
Admitting that there was immense pressure on the team after they qualified for the final, Jaissle tipped his hat to the incredible character of his players.
'The opponents caused us difficulties, they were well organised but overall we fully deserved it. It's never easy. There's a lot of pressure in such a match and you need to deal with it.
'Even more proud how the players dealt with it. This is not normal and the players showed great personality. In the second half, we defended and we wanted to keep the clean sheet and we managed that in the end.'

Sheikh Joaan's candidature for OCA presidency represents Arab ambition: ACRF
Tribune News Network Doha The Arab Camel Racing Federation (ACRF), headed by Abdullah Al Kuwari and members of its Executive Committee, announced its full support for the candidacy of Qatar Olympic Committee President His Excellency Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani for presidency of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in the elections scheduled to be held early next year. In an official statement, the federation affirmed that this support stems from 'a firm conviction that the next phase of Asian sports requires leadership with experience, vision, and international standing, fully aware of the diversity of the continent and the unique characteristics of its people, and a balance between development and sporting and cultural identity.' The statement stressed that the federation, which includes a wide Arab membership spanning from the Gulf to the Atlantic, views Sheikh Joaan's candidacy as a real opportunity to redefine the relationship between sports and identity in Asia, in line with the aspirations, history, and conscience of the people. It noted that His Excellency Sheikh Joaan 'has a strong presence in the sporting scene, supporting major events and sports deeply rooted in the popular conscience, such as camel racing, which represents a profound cultural and heritage dimension.' ACRF emphasized that supporting this candidacy represents not only a Qatari position, but also 'a sincere Arab ambition that believes that sports are the voice and memory of the people, not just medals and races.' The Arab Federation for Camel Racing is a unifying platform for camel racing across the Arab world. It seeks to preserve the cultural heritage associated with camel racing, while supporting its organizational and field development at the regional and international levels.

The FIP Asia Padel Cup also provides for a potential Phase 1, to be activated in the future in order to include new Asian national federations joining FIP. This would be a preliminary qualification stage, organized if the number of teams wishing to participate exceeds the current format—yet another sign of the region's growing padel movement. 'The great continental team competitions embody the essence of our sport and reveal it to the world – said FIP President Luigi Carraro -. It's about playing for one's country, honouring its jersey, but also promoting the fundamental values of sport: loyalty, fair play, unity, and a spirit of community. The FIP Asia Padel Cup takes place in Doha, a symbolic location for padel, because it is precisely here that our beloved sport gained the scale, vision, and ambition that have brought us to where we are today. And it is from here that we will set out once again toward new goals and new achievements', Carraro continued. 'My special thanks go to the Qatar Tennis Squash and Badminton Federation (QTF), a model of hospitality, support, and forward-thinking in organizing world-class sporting events. Thanks also to Padel Asia and its president Tareq Zainal, and once again, to all those who work every day to help padel succeed across the globe'. As Padel Asia, we are proud to witness our shared vision come to life in Doha, a city that has embraced padel with passion and purpose. We are committed to building a stronger, more connected padel community, one that empowers nations, inspires athletes, and shapes the future of the sport on the global stage', he added. The announcement of the FIP Asia Padel Cup confirms the increasingly central role of the Asian region in the international development strategy of padel. Following the success of two World Championships in Qatar, four editions of the Premier Padel Major, and the establishment of Padel Asia, the continent continues to position itself as a key hub for the global growth of the sport.
