Christian Wilkins tried to 'playful' kiss Raiders teammate on forehead before being cut: report

Fox News2 days ago
Christian Wilkins, the veteran defensive lineman who was released by the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday, reportedly kissed a teammate on the forehead, who took offense to it.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the situation on Monday, adding that Wilkins' incident with the teammate did not solely contribute to him being cut from the Raiders.
Wilkins is dealing with a Jones fracture in his left foot, which he suffered in October 2024.
The report states that the incident occurred in a team meeting room last week, with ESPN having one source say it was "playful." However, the teammate in question did not view Wilkins' interaction that way.
A complaint was filed to the Raiders' human resources department following the incident.
On the injury front, the Raiders are reportedly voiding the remaining $35.2 million left in guaranteed money on Wilkins' contract due to how he treated his rehab assignment following the injury. Wilkins was released with the designation of terminated vested veteran, per Schefter.
Wilkins has asked the NFL Players Association to file a grievance on his behalf due to the Raiders' wanting to void his guaranteed money, and they did so on Thursday.
Wilkins signed a four-year, $110 million deal, which included $84.75 million guaranteed, with Las Vegas in free agency last year.
He was one of the league's best defensive tackles with the Miami Dolphins, which included a career-high nine-sack season in 2023 before hitting free agency. Wilkins racked up 20.5 sacks and 355 combined tackles over 81 games with the Dolphins.
In five games before his injury in 2024, Wilkins tallied two sacks and 17 combined tackles for the Raiders. He required surgery for the Jones fracture, which ended his debut season in Las Vegas.

Dan Quinn continues to praise these two young Commanders

One week into training camp, and you could make the case that the Washington Commanders' defense has been the more impressive side of the ball. That's noteworthy because Washington's offense was among the NFL's best last season. However, it's early in camp, and the defense almost always has the early advantage. While Washington's defense deserves praise for how its started training camp, several offensive players have stood out at various times over the first week. Two of those players were Day 2 draft picks from the 2024 NFL draft: tight end Ben Sinnott and wide receiver Luke McCaffrey. We've profiled each player recently and specifically predicted a breakout campaign for McCaffrey. So, it's no surprise that when head coach Dan Quinn speaks to the media, he's asked about the progress of some of his young players. This week, Quinn discussed Sinnott and McCaffrey. "Two players come to mind going into second year on the offense regarding the skill spots, Luke and Ben, and in different ways they both made their impact, and you see them just the confidence, so much more knowledgeable in the system," Quinn said. "There was a play Ben had on a seam route yesterday that took a certain check against the blitz that he and [QB] Jayden [Daniels] had to go execute. A year ago, that would've been harder for him to have that nuance. And you saw that yesterday with Ben." Next, Quinn focused exclusively on McCaffrey: "With Luke, it's been a lot of the same where he can go outside and inside, but the smallest skill work adjustments have been made," he said. "He was always somebody that could pick up on the offense quickly. He's got a background as quarterback, but you kind of see maybe before there was still sometimes, I think like a quarterback now you see him thinking like the receiver. And I think, although that sounds like counterintuitive, more knowledge wouldn't that be better? The finest of the details at the receiver position, that that's what I see now.' This is not the first time Quinn has praised Sinnott or McCaffrey. Far too often, some in the media and fans don't believe a player is having a strong training camp if his name isn't mentioned every day on social media. Sinnott has received some positive attention as of late, but we haven't yet heard a lot of chatter on McCaffrey. That shouldn't be a bad thing. Just remember: if a player isn't all over the practice highlight reel on X, it doesn't mean he's struggling. Goldbridge: Man Utd too strong for Bournemouth but transfers still vital

Man Utd Beat Bournemouth but Questions Remain Despite Preseason Progress Early Goals Define the Match Manchester United delivered a 4-1 victory over Bournemouth in their second US tour match, offering moments of flair but also a reflection of where the squad currently stands. As Mark Goldbridge put it during The United Stand podcast, 'Convincing win for Manchester United. Lots of positives.' The early breakthrough came from a 'lovely cross from Dorgu', which was converted to make it 1-0, followed by another Dorgu-driven move to bring it to 2-0. The match continued with goals from Amad and Williams before a Bournemouth own goal brought the final score to 4-1. While the performance was applauded, Goldbridge was clear in noting, 'Ultimately a clash of two teams really. One who last season was very good and one was really bad.' Praise for Dorgu and Player Performances Goldbridge reserved particular praise for Dorgu. 'Absolutely brilliant in preseason. Like even before the cross to Rasmus, I was literally just about to tweet that Dorgu's had another good start to the game.' His physicality and composure stood out. 'He's mixing it up with players. He's not scared to be physical… he was my standout player, man of the match comfortably.' Photo IMAGO Williams also got attention for his cameo: 'It's a 20-minute cameo. He scores a goal. It's great for the lad.' But there was scepticism too, particularly with some senior figures. 'Casemiro was way off the pace, too slow for the Premier League,' Goldbridge noted. While others, like Bruno Fernandes, received measured praise, he added, 'I don't think Chelsea would be using Bruno in the midfield or Arsenal or Liverpool or Man City or even Aston Villa.' Photo IMAGO Preseason Momentum but Transfer Needs Goldbridge continually returned to the broader context: preseason as preparation, not prophecy. 'This is good preparation… I'm happy with the preseason games we've got.' Yet he stressed it must go hand in hand with recruitment. 'Still need a goalkeeper, still need a striker, still need a midfielder.' He voiced frustration over the slow transfer progress: 'The board need to move a little bit quicker.' Although the intensity and attacking rhythm were steps in the right direction, Goldbridge did not shy away from noting that Bournemouth 'looked dreadful' and that the likes of West Ham and Everton were likely to finish in the bottom half. 'I think that the competitive nature of the Premier League is more up for grabs this year,' he said, but warned, 'Fifth place is up for grabs, but it's not going to be easy… it's there for the team that wants to be ambitious.' A Word on Squad Depth and Future Fixtures Looking ahead, the discussion shifted to squad balance. 'If Rasmus goes, you've got Sesko, Zirkzee can do a job and OB 17,' Goldbridge explained, calling for depth across the front line. 'I would certainly like to have three proper strikers.' Photo IMAGO With Everton and Fiorentina up next before a key test against Arsenal, Goldbridge called for calm and realism. 'I don't think there's a United fan out there that's stupid enough to run away with that and get excited without being a joker.' Final Thoughts from the Pod Closing on a positive, Goldbridge remarked, 'Really enjoyed it. I don't feel that tired at all.' He also praised the fans for their dedication: 'A big massive shout out to the community tonight… getting up at 3, 4, 2 in the morning to watch Man United play.' Ultimately, the match might have seen Man Utd beat Bournemouth with style, but the podcast made it clear that improvement, ambition and recruitment are key to ensuring these summer performances translate when the season begins.

🎥 Happy birthday to Premier League cult hero Paulo Wanchope 🥳

On Thursday 31st July, Premier League cult hero Paulo Wanchope celebrates his 49th birthday. The Costa Rican first arrived on English shores when he joined Derby County in 1997. The highlight of his memorable two-year spell with the Rams arguably came on his Premier League debut, when he scored this outrageous solo goal against Manchester United at Old Trafford. In 1999 he moved to West Ham, where he spent just one season, but returned an impressive 15 goals and three assists. The longest spell of Wanchope's time in England was with Manchester City, whom he joined in the summer of 2000, and went on to score 29 goals over four years, including this brilliant piece of improvisation at Leicester's Filbert Street. On the international stage, Wanchope earned 73 caps for Costa Rica, representing his country at two World Cups, with his brace against hosts Germany in 2006 being a standout moment. They don't make footballers like Paulo anymore. 📸 Tom Shaw - 2003 Getty Images
