SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Two people are in custody after striking multiple police cruisers on I-291 in Springfield.

Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh told 22News that a suspect hit at least two cruisers, and two suspects were in custody. One person has been arrested and one person has been released. One officer has been taken to the hospital for their injuries. This is in connection with an incident in the area of Armory Street in Springfield.
Mass511 reports that I-291 eastbound was closed in Springfield near Exits 1 and 3, but has since reopened.

SPRINGFIELD — A double shooting in a Forest Park neighborhood apartment Friday resulted in the second homicide in two days in the city. Police responded to reports of a shooting in an apartment on Orange Street at about 10:30 p.m. Friday and found two men had been struck by gunfire, said Ryan Walsh, police spokesman. One victim suffered serious wounds and died Sunday. The second is recovering from injuries that are not considered life-threatening, Walsh said. Both were taken to Baystate Medical Center by ambulance Friday night and treated there, he said. The shooting took place near 200 Orange St., close to Malden Street. The day after, another man was shot and killed at about 11:20 p.m. Saturday, near 2700 Main St. in the North End section of the city. The victim was brought to Baystate Medical Center, where he died, Walsh said. The crimes are under investigation by the Springfield Police Department's Homicide Unit under the direction of Capt. Trent Duda in conjunction with the Murder Unit at Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni's Office, he said. Anyone who has information or video of the area at the time of the shootings is asked to contact Springfield detectives at 413-787-6355. SPRINGFIELD – A driver was injured after crashing into two houses Saturday night. The driver was able to exit the vehicle after the crash. He was brought to the hospital by ambulance with injuries that are not life threatening, Fire Department Capt. Drew Piemonte said. The crash took place just before 11:30 p.m. The driver struck a home at 283 Eastern Ave. and continued on, hitting the house next door, Piemonte said. He struck the porches of the three-story and the two-story homes. The owners of the houses were able to secure them so residents could remain there until repairs can be made, Piemonte said. Springfield police have taken over the scene and are investigating the crash, Piemonte said.
