Carmarthenshire couple on more than 20 years of fostering

The couple, who transferred to Foster Wales Carmarthenshire in 2016 after starting their fostering journey in 2004, began fostering on the encouragement of a relative.
After learning about fostering, they decided to start and have been committed ever since.
They originally fostered through an Independent Fostering Agency for 12 years, specialising in long-term placements.
In 2016, they moved to Foster Wales Carmarthenshire, drawn by the extra support and rewards available.
The couple said: "The transfer process was very simple.
"Everyone was friendly and welcoming.
"Our first impressions of the Local Authority were that there was far more support and financial help.
"All of a sudden, we had extra funding for holidays, birthdays, and Christmas, which was a great help."
They have continued to value the emotional and practical support from the fostering team, including regular training and supervision.
They said: "Our social workers and all the teams we work with are so helpful.
"Whenever I need someone, there is always help and support there.
"We get regular training and supervision.
"The training is very valuable, and they use excellent trainers."
Their experience with Foster Wales Carmarthenshire has reinforced their sense of being part of a wider community.
They said: "I would highly recommend the Local Authority due to the level of support.
"We are one big professional family around the children."
A particularly meaningful milestone for the couple was becoming foster grandparents.
They said: "We became foster grandparents to our first ever placement, placed in 2004. "Despite so many challenges, she has been very successful in life and is a great mother and partner to her boyfriend."
Cllr Jane Tremlett, cabinet member for adult social services and children and families, said: "Foster carers play an incredible role in changing the lives of children and young people in foster care, and it is so important that they receive the right support to continue making a difference.
"We are here to guide foster carers through every step of the process, ensuring continuity for them and the children and young people in their care."

Mum says she's been ‘given 2 months to move out' after row with ‘idiot' landlord – but trolls say ‘it's not YOUR house'

The stressed mum explained she wouldn't be able to save enough money for a new deposit in such little time HOUSE THAT Mum says she's been 'given 2 months to move out' after row with 'idiot' landlord – but trolls say 'it's not YOUR house' Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A STRESSED mum has revealed her landlord has given her just two months to move out after the pair had an argument. The mum, who simply goes by The Maiden on social media, took to TikTok for some advice after she explained she didn't have enough money to move. She claimed she received the two months notice because of an argument with her "idiot" landlord. "The landlord didn't fix some sockets in our kitchen in reported in March, he turned up in June and wondered why I was angry," she explained in the viral clip. According to Citizen's Advice, after formally notifying your landlord of issues they should respond in a reasonable timeframe, so it's no wonder the mum wasn't happy with how slow things were moving. Not only that, the mum said she's been living in the home with her son for seven years, so she'd well and truly settled in. "I've just got the boy into a school right by this house and now he's given me two months to move," she added. According to the mum, during her seven years in the home she'd never been late with rent and had in fact always paid three days early. But none of that mattered to the harsh landlord, who decided to chuck the mum and her son out. Things went from bad to worse for the mum because she admitted she wouldn't be able to gather enough money for a deposit for another rented house in the timeframe given, leaving her in limbo. Luckily, many people offered support in the comment section, with one urging the mum to take the landlord to court. Tenants catch out landlord's sly 'overcharging trick' - and now they've won massive $34,000 payout "Don't leave before the bailiffs come," one person commented. "This is a revenge eviction and unlawful," a second said. "That's no good reason, truly. Go to Citizens Advice," someone else suggested. Meanwhile, other renters said they found themselves in similar situations with their own dodgy landlords. "Ours hiked our rent over 40% because we pushed for repairs to damp and mould," one said. "We went through the same last year and had been in the house eight years," another revealed. But others weren't so kind to the struggling mum, as some said she had no reason to complain, since the house isn't technically hers. "There's two sides to every story," one person slammed. "I would like to know why you renters think it's ok for your landlord to be out of pocket," a second wrote. "It's not your house, to be fair," another chimed in.

At least 20 girls are missing from a summer camp in Texas after catastrophic floods

At least 20 girls are missing from an all-girls Christian summer camp in South Texas after catastrophic floods struck the area in the wake of severe overnight storms. In a press conference Friday afternoon, Dan Patrick, the lieutenant governor of Texas, said "20-some" girls attending Camp Mystic in Hunt, Texas remained unaccounted for, later estimating the figure was "about 23." At a separate press conference in Kerr County Friday afternoon, County Sheriff Larry L. Leitha, Jr. said there had been 13 fatalities, without offering additional information, and warned there could be more. Patrick said victims, including children, had already been located, "some in cars washed out upstream." "We don't know where those bodies came from," he said, without ruling out that some may have come from the camp. "This is a mass casualty event," said Freeman Martin, Texas's director of public safety. Patrick said 18 helicopters and 400 to 500 rescue workers are taking part in the search and rescue mission, and that some individuals had already been rescued from trees. Patrick said he has been in touch with President Donald Trump, who said the White House would send any federal resources officials needed. Earlier in the day, the camp, where roughly 750 children were staying, issued a statement telling parents: "If your daughter is not accounted for, you have been notified," while indicating girls located in other parts of the camp had been found safe. The officials said the nearby highway was washed away and that they remained without power, water or internet as they were 'struggling' to get more help. 'Please continue to pray and send any help if you have contacts to do so,' the officials wrote. The camp, for girls between the ages of 7 and 17, was due to celebrate its 100th anniversary next year. It's located near the Guadalupe River, which authorities said surged as much as 22 feet in just half an hour Friday morning to a height of 30 feet in the nearby town of Comfort in Kerr County, breaking a record that has stood for decades. The Department of Homeland Security said Friday afternoon that Secretary Kristi Noem had activated the U.S. Coast Guard and the Federal Emergency Management Agency "to try to get these girls to safety" and was coordinating with state and local leaders. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, also issued a statement on X shortly after 4 p.m Eastern. "Please pray right now for everyone in the Hill Country, especially Camp Mystic," he wrote. "Today, I've spoken with Gov Abbott, Lt. Gov Patrick, the head of TDEM & President Trump. Multiple helicopters are performing search & rescue. President Trump committed ANYTHING Texas needs." In a press conference earlier Friday, Kerr County Judge Rob Kelly confirmed six deaths from the catastrophic flooding, with the toll expected to rise, according to the Austin American-Statesman. Asked about the missing girls, Kelly confirmed some remained unaccounted for. 'We know that there are some missing," he said. "We know where some of them are; they're stranded, and we're working to confirm that with people out at Camp Mystic. But in terms of how many, exactly how many are missing and unaccounted for, we're not sure about that number, but we have a bunch of them we're trying to get back." Flood warnings throughout the state remain in place through the weekend. 'There is an ongoing threat for possible flash flooding from San Antonio to Waco for the next 24 to 48 hours, in addition to the continued risks in west and central Texas,' Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said in a statement.
