'A really good question,' Pelley said Friday when asked why the Leafs don't make better use of Scotiabank Arena, where they lost three times in the playoffs. 'What happened in the playoffs, especially (at the start of) Game 7 showed us what this can be, in terms of a magical hockey atmosphere.

'It's one we'll look to get better at on game day. A lot of it is getting people into their seats a bit earlier. We did a really good job of that in playoffs, turning lights off, blowing whistles. It makes a difference, it's great to have it for all three periods.'

But the catastrophic end to Game 7 with debris and Leafs sweaters littering the ice also showed Pelley there is damage control to be done this summer. That includes off the ice.

'It's how players relate to the fans and quite honestly how we relate to the media. I understand the importance of the media, having worked in it for so long. We need to embrace the media and fans and be out there more.

With runners on first and second and none out, Clement bunted to the third-base side of the mound in the 10th inning scoring Myles Straw. Bachman threw high and the Blue Jays had their season-high sixth win in a row before 30,119 at Rogers Centre. Bachman (1-2) took the loss, while Chad Green (3-0) pitched the top of the 10th and registered the win. The Blue Jays sent seven players to the plate in a three-run sixth. Will Wagner scored on Andres Gimenez's single to left and the latter scored on Bo Bichette's single to left. George Springer scored on Zach Neto's error. Toronto starter Eric Lauer lost his magic in the seventh when Mike Trout and Taylor Ward singled to end his evening. Reliever Nick Sandlin was greeted with a 431-foot homer from Jo Adell to left centre for his 19th. In Lauer's six-plus innings, he was on the hook for two runs on three hits and a walk with six strikeouts. Lauer and his Los Angeles counterpart Kyle Hendricks were engaged in a pitchers' duel through five innings. Blue Jays complete sweep of Yankees, take AL East lead

Sokolowski-Imagn Images) George Springer hit two homers and drove in four runs as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the visiting New York Yankees 8-5 Thursday night to complete a four-game series sweep. Springer had four homers in the series as Toronto moved into first place in the American League East, one game ahead of the Yankees. Addison Barger added three hits with a homer and two RBIs and Nathan Lukes had three hits and two RBIs. Trent Grisham hit a solo homer for the Yankees. Jasson Dominguez added four hits. Toronto scored once in the first against Clarke Schmidt. Springer walked and came home on Barger's double. Grisham led off the third against Chris Bassitt (8-4) with a homer to left center on a cutter. The Blue Jays regained the lead in their third. Lukes led off with a double to right and Springer homered to center. The Yankees tied the game in the fourth. Dominguez lined a triple to the gap in left center and scored on Anthony Volpe's single. Austin Wells doubled and Volpe scored from third on a wild pitch. Clayton Beeter (0-1) took over in fourth for Schmidt, who allowed three runs, four hits and two walks with one strikeout and was removed with right forearm tightness. Beeter walked Will Wagner, who took second on Davis Schneider's single. After Leo Jimenez's sacrifice, Lukes finished a 14-pitch at-bat with a two-run double past third base to give the Blue Jays a 5-3 lead. Wells drew a walk to put runners on the corners, but Green induced pinch-hitter Giancarlo Stanton to ground out to end the threat. Judge was walked intentionally with two out and no one on base in the eighth and southpaw Justin Bruihl replaced Green and fanned Bellinger. Springer hit a two-run homer off Luke Weaver in the home eighth. Jeff Hoffman pitched around a double in the ninth to earn his 21st save.
