MSP thanks emergency services for efforts in tackling Fauldhouse wildfire

Angela Constance, MSP for Almond Valley and constituency MSP for Fauldhouse, has expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the emergency services responding to the significant wildfire.
'I want to put on record my grateful thanks and appreciation to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), Police Scotland, Scottish Ambulance Service and Forestry and Land Scotland,' Angela said.
'Due to the combined efforts of SFRS and partners, they have protected the public and property in what is a significant and prolonged incident affecting 100 hectares during the fifth wildfire danger assessment of the year.'
Spring is the most critical period for wildfires in Scotland, with SFRS attending an average of 170 large outdoor fires each year. The Scottish Government supports the implementation of the wildfire strategy with £1.6 million.
Angela added: 'The current weather in Scotland means that the risks of wildfires are higher, and I must reinforce to the public who are enjoying the outdoors to follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and to avoid lighting open fires, especially when a Wildfire Danger Assessment is in place.'
On Wednesday morning, a Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) spokesperson confirmed that two appliances remained at the scene.
People living nearby have been urged to keep their windows and doors closed due to the smoke.
An SFRS spokesperson said on Wednesday at around 7.30am: 'There are still sporadic hotspots, so we still have crews in attendance fighting it.'
The fire service had earlier warned of an 'extreme' risk of wildfires across mainland Scotland due to the warm, dry weather, which remained in place until May 12.

Firefighters tackling blaze affecting two houses in Scots town as locals watch on in horror
It is unclear whether there have been any injuries as a result of the incident. Two homes are in flames as firefighters tackle the raging inferno in a Scots town. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) rushed to Shaw Avenue, Armadale, West Lothian at around 3:49pm this afternoon, Saturday, June 7. It is unclear at this stage whether there have been any casualties as a result of the fire, reports Edinburgh Live. One local residents reported seeing four appliances in attendance and confirmed the street had been cordoned off while emergency services attended the incident. Footage captured by local man, Jordan Sweeney, shows flames licking out of a window of one of the properties. Thick grey smoke can be seen billowing the sky and engulfing adjacent streets in the area. Firefighters are seen spraying water into the home to try to control the fire. A spokesperson for the SFRS said: "We received a report of two residential properties on fire at around 3.49pm on Saturday June 7. "Four appliances remain in attendance on Shaw Avenue, Armadale."

Firefighters and helicopter tackle wildfire near Alford
Multiple fire crews have been tackling a large wildfire near a rural road close to Alford in Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said nine fire appliances and a number of specialist units responded to the blaze in an area of gorse on a hillside near to Suie Road.A helicopter was also used to waterbomb the said it was alerted at about 11:30 and it urged nearby residents to keep the windows of their homes closed due to the smoke.
