England Lionesses hero heartbreakingly reveals her Nan passed away on morning of Euro 2025 final

Ella Toone was part of the England Lionesses side that beat Spain on penalties to win the Euro 2025 final last weekend, just hours after sadly losing her grandmother Ella Toone has revealed that her nan sadly passed away on the morning of England's Euro 2025 triumph. ‌ Toone, 25, was one of the Lionesses standout players at the Euros, which culminated in Sarina Wiegman's side beating Spain on penalties last Sunday. But the Manchester United attacker's nan heartbreakingly died on the morning of the final. ‌ She confirmed the news in a social media post, which included some beautiful words in tribute to her 'famous Nana Maz'. ‌ Toone wrote: "Even in the highest of highs life can hit you with the lowest of lows. My Nana Maz took her last breath on the morning of our Euro final. I have comfort in knowing she got to watch from the best seat in the house with Dad, her favourite person. "I'll miss you forever nan but I'll cherish the special memories we made, there isn't enough words I can possibly say to sum up the person you were, but I'm grateful you were my nanna. "My football loving, crazy, funny Nan. All those years ago when you put a bet on at the bookies that I would play for England one day & on the day you leave us we bring it home again. "You always knew it. Say hello to our angels up there, grandads been waiting for you for a while ❤️ love you always, our 'famous' Nanna Maz x." Toone played five times for England on their way to victory in the final, which saw them retain the European crown they clinched three years ago.

UK companies that pay suppliers late will be fined under new law

Companies that continually pay their suppliers late will face fines under new legislation announced today. Sir Keir Starmer said 'it's time to pay up' as the Prime Minister announced plans to impose fines on large companies that persistently pay suppliers late. As many as 38 businesses shut down each day, partly owing to late payments, according to the Government, with tradespeople, shopkeepers and start-up founders particularly vulnerable. It is estimated that late payments cost the economy £11bilion a year. 'Late payments are one of the biggest barriers to small business growth - causing cashflow problems that stop firms from scaling up and investing in their future,' the Government said. 'Every day, hardworking businesses close their doors because they aren't paid on time.' The small business commissioner will be handed new powers, including carrying out spot checks and enforcing a 30-day invoice verification period to speed up resolutions to disputes. The legislation will also introduce maximum payment terms of 60 days, reducing to 45 days, to ensure businesses are paid on time. Small businesses have been quietly battling late payments, with the issue only worsening since the cost of living crisis. Research by the Federation of Small Businesses trade body in 2023 found if late payments had been made on time, 50,000 business closures could be avoided each year. The definition of prompt payment for a small business suppliers, as per the Prompt Payment Code (PPC), is to pay 95 per cent of invoices from small businesses with fewer than 50 employees within 30 days. However, the code is voluntary and plenty of businesses flout the rules. The Prime Minister said: 'From builders and electricians to freelance designers and manufacturers - too many hardworking people are being forced to spend precious hours chasing payments instead of doing what they do best – growing their businesses. 'It's unfair, it's exhausting, and it's holding Britain back. So, our message is clear: it's time to pay up.' Tina McKenzie, policy chair of the FSB added: 'Today's plan is an encouraging commitment from the Government to take the side of small businesses in the great growth challenge ahead.' The crackdown on late payments is part of a wider package, including plans to pump £4billion of financial support into small businesses. This includes £1billion for new firms, with 69,000 start-up loans and mentoring support.

Arteta cool on fitness of defenders

Mikel Arteta says Gabriel Magalhaes, Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber will all be fit for the start of the Premier League season. Centre-back Gabriel played 45 minutes in Arsenal's win over Watford behind closed doors but has not played any minutes of the tour to Singapore and Hong Kong after picking up an injury in training. Calafiori started the first two games of Arsenal's tour but limped off just two minutes into the second half against Newcastle and he missed the match against rivals Tottenham. Timber, has been recovering after having ankle surgery in May, and only recently joined team training. After the 1-0 loss to Spurs in the Kai Tak stadium, Arteta was asked if there was any doubt of the three missing the first Premier League match against Manchester United on 17 August. "I don't think so. If they evolve like they've been involved in the last few days, so Gabriel Magalhaes, Calafiori and Timber, the three of them will be available," Arteta said.
