Packed autos put Hyderabad schoolkids at risk
Transport department data accessed by TNIE shows that between January 1 and July 10, 2025, a total of 1,903 autorickshaws were checked and fines amounting to Rs 89.64 lakh were collected for violations. In Telangana, 1,323 Vehicle Check Reports (VCRs) were issued with a fine of Rs 66.84 lakh, while in the GHMC area, 580 VCRs were issued and Rs 22.8 lakh collected.
Overloading is just one concern. Sources said auto drivers often drop students before approaching traffic signals to avoid being fined, only to pick them up again after crossing the junction. The issue came to light when a complaint about an overloaded school auto in a Malkajgiri residential colony prompted action by transport authorities.

Fake embassy of fictional nations busted in Ghaziabad; Luxury cars, diplomatic gear seized
Ghaziabad: In a startling revelation, the Noida Special Task Force (STF) on Wednesday said that it uncovered a fake embassy being operated out of a rented bungalow in Ghaziabad's Kavi Nagar area of Uttar Pradesh. Parked outside the premises were several high-end vehicles fitted with fake diplomatic number plates, which were used to lend an air of legitimacy to the illegal setup. The alleged kingpin behind the operation, Harsh Vardhan Jain, was arrested at the spot, officials confirmed. As per preliminary findings, Jain had converted the bungalow into a so-called 'embassy' for imaginary or self-declared micronations. He also falsely claimed to represent other such fictional entities, including West Arctica, Saborga, Poulvia, and Lodonia. Authorities revealed that Jain posed as an ambassador of these so-called nations and used a range of tactics to deceive people. He used fake diplomatic number plates and other forged documents to build a show of authenticity. According to officers, his operation involved extensive use of deception, including the display of luxury cars and morphed photographs with global dignitaries such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former President Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, and some international leaders. These doctored images were reportedly used to influence unsuspecting individuals and project himself as a powerful global figure. The pictures seized from the spot also reveal Jain's possible ties with international arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi and controversial self-styled godman Chandraswami. Acting on intelligence received from central agencies, STF personnel conducted a raid on July 22 and apprehended Jain from the premises. The investigation has since revealed that Jain's scam was not limited to his fake diplomatic identity. His racket involved conning individuals and companies by promising assistance in overseas business ventures and employment opportunities abroad. Authorities also suspect he operated a hawala network through shell companies to further his illegal dealings. Officials noted that a satellite phone was recovered from Jain back in 2011. During the latest raid, a large cache of forged diplomatic materials was seized. This included four luxury vehicles bearing fake diplomatic plates, 12 counterfeit diplomatic passports linked to fictitious micronations, two fake PAN cards, forged documents with the seals of the Ministry of External Affairs, and 34 counterfeit seals purportedly from various countries and corporate entities. Additionally, officers found two fake press cards, a staggering Rs 44.7 lakh in cash, foreign currency from multiple nations, and 18 more fabricated diplomatic number plates. A new FIR has been registered at the Kavi Nagar police station, and further legal proceedings are underway. Authorities believe that more individuals could be involved in the scam. Investigations are underway.

Setback For Gensol: NCLT Admits IREDA Insolvency Plea Over Rs 510 Cr Default
Last Updated: The NCLT Ahmedabad admitted IREDA's plea for insolvency against Gensol Engineering Ltd over Rs 510.10 crore loan default. SEBI barred Gensol's promoters for fund misuse. In a setback for Gensol Engineering Limited, the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), Ahmedabad Bench has admitted a plea by Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd (IREDA) to initiate insolvency proceedings under Section 7 of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), 2016. IREDA, a public sector NBFC under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, alleged that Gensol defaulted on loan repayments worth Rs 510.10 crore across five sanctioned financial facilities, including electric vehicle leasing and solar power projects. The loans were disbursed between March 2022 and May 2024. According to the shared court order copy, the tribunal said that Gensol had failed to maintain financial discipline, citing defaults on 31 March, 19 April, and 12 May 2025. IREDA in the filing said that it filed an application on May 14 under Section 7 of Insolvency and Bankruptcy code, 2016 against Gensol Engineering Limited for a defaulted amount of Rs 510,00,52,672. IREDA admitted supporting evidence including ledger extracts, bank statements, and filings with NeSL (National E-Governance Services Ltd), as well as invoking personal guarantees of the company's promoters. The tribunal also directed IREDA to deposit Rs 20 lakh towards CIRP costs and instructed all concerned authorities, including the Registrar of Companies and IBBI, to be notified of the order. Gensol Engineering shares hit the 5% lower circuit to halt trading at Rs 48.72 apiece today, July 23. Gensol Fund Saga Sebi had barred the Gensol Engineering's promoters, Anmol Singh Jaggi and Puneet Singh Jaggi, from the securities market due to allegations of misusing public company funds for personal gain. The promoters are accused of siphoning off loan funds meant for the company, misleading investors, lenders, and regulators. The interim order not only restricts them from accessing capital markets but also prevents them from holding key positions in any listed company for the time being. It is the alleged misuse of nearly Rs 262 crore from the Rs 978 crore loaned to Gensol by the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) and Power Finance Corporation (PFC). The funds were intended for acquiring 6,400 EVs for leasing to BluSmart, but only 4,704 vehicles were purchased. Sebi's findings suggest that a portion of the funds was redirected to personal luxuries, such as high-end real estate, foreign travel, golf equipment, and other personal expenses. Since the unfolding of the Gensol Fund saga, shares of the company plummeted up to 93 per cent. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Tata Nexon EV Owner Explains How He Drove 1.6 Lakh Km On Stock Tyres
The owner of the Tata Nexon EV explained how he managed to travel 1.62 lakh kilometres without needing to change his stock tyres, raising eyebrows among automobile users. A Tata Nexon EV Prime Owner has grabbed attention after revealing he has travelled a whopping 1,62,000 kilometres on his vehicle without changing his stock tyres. While performance-oriented electric cars tend to wear out their tyres more quickly than ICE vehicles, this EV owner's case has raised eyebrows, as he highlighted that his EV has managed to utilise the factory set of tyres for a long time. In a YouTube video shared by Kaushik Vlogs on their channel, a Tata Nexon EV Prime owner revealed he has not gone through a single tyre change on his EV while enjoying an amazing performance output. After the video started with the vlogger introducing Tata Nexon EV Prime and its owner, the person explained how he got so much mileage out of it with simple but effective management practices, based on care and gentle acceleration and braking. With their high torque, these tyres can easily spin and quickly endure damage to their rubber. However, this EV owner managed to pull what many would deem impossible. When asked by the vlogger about the purchase date and pricing of the vehicle, the Tata Nexon EV Prime owner replied that the SUV was bought in 2021 at Rs 16.4 lakhs. The owner also revealed there was a subsidy on offer, which he was never truly given. Noticing the amount of mileage on the odometer, the host duly asked the man about his daily commute. To which he replied, he has to drive around 200 km per day from Delhi, Noida, to Chandigarh because of his marketing job. Later on, the vlogger asked about the range and charging time of the Nexon EV Prime. The owner said the range is about 250+ km in winter and rainy season when driving the car at around 55–60 kmph. However, the range drops in the summer due to the heat. Talking of the charging speed, the man said he has a charger installed in a parking space in his basement. Using the 3.3 kW home charger, the charging speed is around 10 hours for a full charge. He also revealed that the service cost during the warranty period was Rs 800-1200, which has since risen to Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000. view comments First Published: July 23, 2025, 14:37 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
