Inaugurating the 16th Rozgar Mela organised in association with South Western Railway in Hubballi on Saturday, Mr. Joshi said that during 2014 there were 23.73 crore EPFO members and it had increased significantly owing to more youths getting employment. 'After Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power, several initiatives had been taken to provide employment through government departments, public sector undertakings, banks and other organisations. At the same time, employment generation in the private sector was also encouraged leading to more number of new members in EPFO,' he said, adding that the increased number of EPFO members was the answer to the Opposition parties which were raising the issue of unemployment repeatedly. Mr. Joshi said that in Indian Railways alone, 8,400 candidates had been recruited of late and SWR had recruited 1,135. Shortly the recruitment for 3,500 posts in Railways would be held, he said. 'Very soon it will be the third biggest economy,' he said. He said that in the last decade, 40,000 km of railway lines had been electrified and the government was providing free foodgrains through the public distribution system to 80 crore people. 'Self sufficiency has been achieved in power generation and country's infrastructure has improved a lot. Under Mr. Modi's leadership the country was progressing rapidly,' he said. On the occasion, selected candidates were given appointment orders. Earlier, Mr. Modi inaugurated the mela via virtual mode. General Manager of SWR Mukul Saran Mathur, Divisional Railway Manager Bela Meena and other officials were present.

PF Rules Changed: Buy Your First Home Faster With 90% Withdrawal Access

In a major relief for salaried employees, the government has revised the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) withdrawal rules, making it significantly easier for first-time homebuyers to access funds. Under the newly introduced Para 68-BD of the EPF Scheme, 1952, EPFO members can now withdraw up to 90% of their PF corpus for the purchase, construction, or EMI payment of a residential property. This move shortens the eligibility period from five years to just three years from the date of account opening. Previously, PF withdrawals for housing were limited to 36 months' worth of combined employee and employer contributions plus interest, whichever was lower and only after five years of continuous EPF membership. The earlier rules also restricted members already enrolled in housing schemes. The new rules now give subscribers more flexibility but restrict this housing withdrawal to once in a lifetime. Additional Major Changes to EPF Withdrawal EPFO has announced other significant changes to streamline and speed up PF withdrawal: Instant Withdrawals via UPI and ATM: From June 2025, members can instantly withdraw up to Rs 1 lakh for emergency needs. Auto Settlement Limit Raised: Automatic claim settlement limit increased from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. Simplified Claim Process: The number of verification parameters reduced from 27 to 18, with 95% of claims now settled within 3-4 days. Easier Withdrawals for Life Needs: Processes for education, marriage, and medical-related withdrawals have also been simplified, boosting financial liquidity for employees.
