At least 20 wounded in Russian drone and missile attack on Kyiv
Kyiv's Mayor Vitalii Klitschko said nine people were wounded in the city's Sviatoshynskyi district and 11 more in the Solomianskyi district. The mayor said six people were hospitalized. Fires broke out in two other Kyiv districts as a result of falling debris from shot-down Ukrainian air defenses.
Canada, which assumed the presidency of the G7 this year, invited Zelenskyy to the summit, where he is expected to hold one-on-one meetings with world leaders. Zelenskyy was set to meet with US President Donald Trump in Canada on Tuesday, though the White House announced Trump would be returning early to Washington because of tensions in the Middle East.
Russia has launched a record number of drones and missiles in recent weeks. Moscow escalated attacks after Ukraine's Security Service agency staged an audacious operation targeting warplanes in air bases deep inside Russian territory.
Little progress has emerged from direct peace talks held in Istanbul, with the exception of prisoner exchanges expected to conclude next week,' Zelenskyy said.

US, China confront each other on Ukraine at United Nations
The United States told China at the United Nations on Friday it should 'stop fueling Russia's aggression' in Ukraine, as China accused Washington of trying to shift blame and spark confrontation. Acting US Ambassador to the UN Dorothy Shea urged all countries, specifically naming China, to stop exports to Russia of dual-use goods that Washington says contribute to Russia's war industrial base and enable its drone and missile attacks on Ukraine. 'Beijing's claim to have implemented strong export controls on dual-use goods falls apart in the face of daily recovery of Chinese-produced components in the drones, weapons, and vehicles that Russia uses against Ukraine,' Shea told a meeting of the 15-member UN Security Council on Ukraine. China did not start the war in Ukraine, is not a party to the conflict, has never provided lethal weapons, and has always 'strictly controlled dual-use materials, including the export of drones,' China's deputy UN Ambassador Geng Shuang responded. 'We urge the US to stop shifting blame on the Ukraine issue or creating confrontation and instead play a more constructive role in promoting ceasefire and peace talks,' he told the council. Reuters reported on Wednesday that Chinese-made engines are being covertly shipped via front companies to a state-owned drone manufacturer in Russia, labeled as 'industrial refrigeration units' to avoid detection in the wake of Western sanctions. 'If China is sincere in calling for peace, it should stop fueling Russia's aggression,' Shea said.

Qatar and Egypt See Some Progress in Gaza Ceasefire Talks
There has been some progress in the latest round of Gaza ceasefire talks, mediators Qatar and Egypt said in a joint statement on Friday. Suspending the negotiations to hold consultations before resuming talks is normal in the context of these complex negotiations, they said. The ceasefire mediators affirmed their commitment to continuing their efforts to reach a comprehensive ceasefire agreement in Gaza in partnership with the United States. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump appeared on Friday to abandon Gaza ceasefire negotiations with Hamas, both saying it had become clear that the Palestinian group did not want a deal. Netanyahu said Israel was now mulling "alternative" options to achieve its goals of bringing its hostages home from Gaza and ending Hamas rule in the enclave, where starvation is spreading and most of the population is homeless amid widespread ruin. Trump said he believed Hamas leaders would now be "hunted down", telling reporters at the White House: "Hamas really didn't want to make a deal. I think they want to die. And it's very bad. And it got to be to a point where you're going to have to finish the job." Israel and the United States withdrew their delegations on Thursday from the ceasefire talks in Qatar, hours after Hamas submitted its response to a truce proposal. Senior Hamas official Basem Naim said on Facebook that the talks had been constructive.

Deportation flights from Florida's ‘Alligator Alcatraz' detention center have begun
Deportation flights from the remote Everglades immigration lockup known as 'Alligator Alcatraz' began in the past few days, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said Friday. The flights, operated by the Department of Homeland Security, have transferred about 100 detainees from the immigration detention center to other countries, said DeSantis, who expects that number to increase soon. 'I think you're going to see the numbers go up dramatically,' DeSantis said during a news conference near the South Florida detention center. Officials said that two or three flights have departed from the site so far, but they didn't say where those flights headed. Critics have condemned the facility as cruel and inhumane. DeSantis and other Republican officials have defended it as part of the state's aggressive push to support President Donald Trump's crackdown on illegal immigration. Building the facility in the Everglades and naming it after a notorious federal prison were meant as deterrents, DeSantis and other officials have said. The White House has delighted in the area's remoteness – about 50 miles (80 kilometers) west of Miami – and the fact that it is teeming with pythons and alligators. It hopes to convey a message to detainees and the rest of the world that repercussions will be severe if the immigration laws of the United States are not followed. The center was built in eight days over 10 square miles (26 square kilometers) of the Everglades. It features more than 200 security cameras, more than 5 miles (8 kilometers) of barbed wire, and 400 security personnel. It currently holds about 2000 people, with the potential to double the capacity, Florida Emergency Management Director Kevin Guthrie said Friday.
