Torrential rain has caused flash flooding in parts of central Texas, killing more than 20 people.
In Kerr County, more than 20 girls are missing from Camp Mystic, a private Christian summer camp located along a river that rose more than 20 feet in less than two hours. It 'does not mean they are lost,' Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick cautioned, while Gov. Greg Abbott said that search and rescue operations will continue through the night. Throughout Kerr County, more than 230 people have been rescued or evacuated so far, many by helicopter, authorities said.
Some areas saw a month's worth of rain in just a few hours overnight into Friday. Heavy rain is expected to continue Saturday.

Brush and debris fire temporarily closes parts of US-27 in Weston, officials say

A large brush and debris fire forced firefighters to shut down portions of U.S. Highway 27 in Broward County early Saturday morning, officials said. Around 4:30 a.m., Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the fire reported on private property near US-27 and Manatee Isles Drive in Weston. According to BSFR, the fire sparked in a remote, non-residential area and was limited to brush and accumulated debris, and no nearby structures were threatened or damaged. About 35 firefighters, along with multiple fire engines and a specialized water tender capable of carrying thousands of gallons of water, responded to the scene, where video provided by BSFR showed massive piles of debris engulfed in flames. BSFR said as a precaution, portions of US-27 were temporarily closed as firefighters battled the flames. Crews were able to bring the fire under control, and the roadway has since reopened. BSFR personnel remained on-site for several hours to extinguish residual hotspots and ensure the fire was fully contained. BSFR added that no injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Texas flood victim clinging to tree is airlifted out of danger in dramatic rescue

Video shows the moment a Texas flood victim clinging to a tree was airlifted out of danger in a dramatic rescue. Emergency services have been conducting multiple search and rescue operations after storms caused severe flooding along the Guadalupe River starting on Friday, July 4th, 2025, and continuing into the weekend. In a video tweeted by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a woman is seen desperately clinging to a tree to avoid falling into the rising water of the river below her. The victim is eventually winched free by an air rescue helicopter and successfully carried to safety. In a caption accompanying the video, Governor Abbott said: "Air rescue missions like this are being done around the clock", reassuring the public with a promise that all missing victims will be "accounted for".
