League of Ireland top scorer Moses Dyer rejects Derry City approach
LEAGUE OF IRELAND top scorer Moses Dyer has rejected an initial approach from Derry City.
The 42 understands that the the Candystripes activated a buyout clause in the Galway United striker's contract in the last few days.
However, the New Zealand international has turned down the chance to join Tiernan Lynch's men and it remains to be seen if they will continue their pursuit of the 28-year-old.
Derry are currently in fourth place, and while they are 11 points off league leaders Shamrock Rovers they do have two games in hand.

Dyer has been one of the finds of the season for John Caulfield's Galway side and has scored 10 times so far this term.
A straight red card on Monday for his part in an altercation with Sligo Rovers defender John Mahon means Dyer will now likely face a three-game suspension, starting with the visit of champions Shelbourne this Friday.

SLIGO ROVERS MANAGER John Russell has confirmed that Owen Elding is in the process of finalising his eligibility for the Republic of Ireland. And the Bit O'Red boss revealed a number of clubs are interested in the 19-year-old who has taken the League of Ireland by storm this season. 'I would have flagged this a while back. The stuff going on in the background, trying to get him nationalised. He's been in the country since he was 11 years of age,' Russell said. 'He's been here and I think there's talk in the background. Hopefully that will be resolved. He should be in that 21s squad. 'I think it's just a bit of paperwork that the FAI have to organise. I'm led to believe that it's close. I think for everyone it would be good if it happens soon.'

Omens are good that Damien Duff will be back
In the days following Damien Duff's abrupt departure from Shelbourne, the focus was on what the effect might be on the League of Ireland. Duffer's Stardust had propelled it to the back and occasionally, the front pages. And while the surge in popularity over the last few years feels like it is sustainable, there's no doubt that this is a setback for a league that was only getting used to being the centre of the national sporting conversation. But whatever about what's next for the league, one wonders what will be the next step for Duff? Even allowing for his interview on Shels' in-house channel two days before his resignation, where he lamented the fact that all the energy had to come from him, his decision last Sunday still felt hasty and impulsive, the sort of thing he may have been regretting in the car as he drove back to Wicklow. Pic: Michael P Ryan/Sportsfile His exit, just two weeks before a massive Champions League local derby against Linfield, created loads of memes about the fact that Duff leaves once the going gets tough, which is a little unfair, considering where he has brought this club over the past three and a half years. But his track record of hasty retreats from Ireland, Celtic and now Shels does not make for good reading. There may have been different reasons for each departure, but it may give any ambitious chairman of a Championship club in England pause for thought if they were thinking of appointing the Ireland legend. But if he regrets his decision last Sunday, might there be a way back for him at Tolka Park? Maybe this decision was not final. A European showdown with the champions of the North, a winnable tie even for a Shelbourne team who have been struggling for form, and then Europe might open up into an odyssey. It is just the sort of thing that could make Duff have second thoughts. Perhaps, where he will end up next is the place he left so abruptly last Sunday? Stranger things have happened.

Ballymena United follow ex-Shelbourne defender signing with Finn Harps raid
Ballymena United have snapped up defender Joel Thompson from Finn Harps, with the ink barely dry on the contract of former Shelbourne full-back David Toure. Toure has signed for the NIFL Premiership side from Glenavon, just 18 months after his arrival there from League of Ireland champions Shelbourne. A number of clubs on both sides of the Irish Sea were chasing the 20-year-old, according to Ballymena. Toure said: 'From the outside looking in I could see this was a squad that's improving and it was a no brainer really. I spoke to a few lads already here and they love it.
