"NRC through back door...": AIMIM chief Owaisi slams EC over SIR in Bihar
He said the poll panel does not have a right to determine citizenship and said he had termed SIR as 'NRC through back door'.
'It is unfortunate that a constitutional body is not making a statement, and things are being revealed through sources. Who are these sources? Who gave the ECI the power to determine whether someone is a citizen or not? Our party was the first to say that SIR is NRC through the back door,' Owaisi said.
He said the party members will be asked to meet BLOs (block level officers).
'SIR was conducted in 2003. How many foreign nationals were revealed at that time?' he asked.
'They (ECI) do not have the right (to determine citizenship)... The Home Ministry, SP Border have the right... Why are they doing this if they don't have the right... This is why I said that this is back door NRC... There are elections in Bihar in November. Why do they want to make the people of Seemanchal powerless...?,' he added.
Supreme Court on July 10 allowed ECI to continue Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls while advising them to consider allowing Aadhaar, ration cards, and electoral photo identity cards as admissible documents to prove voter identity.
The decision of SIR comes ahead of Bihar elections, which are expected to be held later this year.
While the NDA, consisting of the BJP, JD(U), and LJP, will strive for another mandate in Bihar, the INDIA bloc, consisting of the RJD, Congress, and left parties, will be looking to oust Nitish Kumar government.
Jan Suraaj Party is also making efforts win a mandate in the state.

Raipur: The Chhattisgarh govt is intensifying its efforts against illegal infiltration, particularly of Bangladeshi nationals, who are reportedly settling across the state. This was said by deputy chief minister & home minister Vijay Sharma during a calling attention motion of the Assembly, responding to concerns raised by BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar. Chandrakar highlighted the growing number of infiltrators, particularly in urban centres like Raipur, Bilaspur, and Durg, and in tribal-dominated areas, raising fears of 'demographic change and increased crime'. He also questioned how these individuals were acquiring official documents such as Aadhaar cards, voter IDs, and ration cards, suggesting possible complicity from govt officials. Chandrakar pressed the deputy CM on the efficacy of existing measures, questioning how infiltrators managed to obtain legal documents and cross state borders undetected. He sought details on the detention and deportation process for those arrested. Sharma explained that the cases registered fall under the Foreigners Act, with most accused currently in jail or out on bail under strict surveillance. He said that the state is moving towards establishing 'holding centres' with a capacity of 100 individuals in Raipur, to house those awaiting deportation. Sharma assured the assembly that though lengthy, the process of deportation would certainly move forward under the current govt. Sharma confirmed that all individuals apprehended so far are Bangladeshi nationals, with no Rohingya infiltrators among them. He highlighted an instance in Raipur where a Bangladeshi national obtained an Aadhaar card, EPIC card, and ration card with the help of a local councillor, leading to action against four officials. He reiterated that stringent action would be taken against anyone found aiding those who threaten the state's demography and vitiate its systems. He also alluded to political parties obstructing voter list revision, suggesting it might be an attempt to protect vote banks, an act he vowed would not be tolerated.

"She Was Murdered": Father Of Odisha Woman Who Set Herself On Fire
Balasore: The father of the victim who died from self-immolation in Odisha's Balasore on Tuesday claimed that his daughter did not die by suicide but was murdered. He demanded that the state government treat the case as a murder and punish all those involved. Speaking to ANI, the victim's father said, "Everyone together forced my daughter to die. Isn't that murder? I believe it was a conspiracy because she used to raise her voice in college, and they didn't like it." Referring to her last visit to the college principal's office, the victim's father questioned the circumstances leading to her death. "They all conspired to force my daughter to commit suicide. Why did she commit suicide right after coming out of the Principal's room? Something must have happened inside. What happened inside? Why was she called in alone? Why wasn't I or my son called? I request the government to acknowledge that my daughter didn't die, she was killed, and everyone should be charged with murder," he said. The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will organise a protest rally on Wednesday in response to the death of a 20-year-old student, who died after setting herself on fire following repeated complaints of sexual harassment by a college teacher that were allegedly ignored. The party has also demanded Rs 1 crore compensation for the victim's family and a judicial inquiry into the incident. BJD MLA Goutam Buddha Das told ANI, "It is very unfortunate news that a girl from our constituency died due to self-immolation. The student was being harassed by her teacher. She complained to the college principal, went to the MPs, and tweeted the same to the CM and the education minister. No one listened to her. The government is responsible for this." "We have decided to close Balasore tomorrow. We will organise a protest rally. We demand that the family of the victim should get the compensation of Rs 1 crore, and a judicial inquiry should happen," he added. The 20-year-old student had allegedly faced prolonged sexual harassment by the Head of Department (HoD) at Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College in Balasore. Despite filing a formal complaint and seeking help from the college principal, her grievances reportedly went unheard, leading her to take the extreme step on campus last Saturday. She was initially admitted to the Balasore district hospital and later referred to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar, where she succumbed to her burn injuries on Monday, hospital authorities said. In connection with the case, Fakir Mohan College's HoD, Samira Kumar Sahu, and Principal, Dilip Ghose, have been arrested.

Rs 51 cr sanctioned to support EC exercise
Patna: Cabinet on Tuesday sanctioned Rs 51.68 crore to support the roll revision exercise undertaken by the EC. The opposition alleged that the exercise was an attempt to implement NRC in the state.
