U's boss keeps cards close to chest on potential move for Alex Matos
The 20-year-old Chelsea midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at United, playing 20 times in Sky Bet Championship.
It's understood that Matos isn't short of offers from various other clubs, while a decision on his future may rumble on deep into the summer transfer window.

Rowett has previously spoken of his admiration for the player, and when asked for an update on a possible permanent transfer, the U's head coach said: 'I'm loathed to talk about players that are at other clubs under contract.
'Of course, Alex is a player who did well for us last season, but there are a number of players in Alex's position and a number of players that are contracted to clubs.
'Like I said, I don't like talking about players, and I would expect that in return from other clubs.'
Matos joined Chelsea from Norwich City in July 2023, having featured for the Under-18 and Under-21 teams with the Canaries.
He made his Blues first team debut as a late substitute in a 2-0 win at Fulham in October 2023, and also featured from the bench in a Carabao Cup fourth round tie against Blackburn Rovers.
Matos joined Huddersfield Town on loan in the Championship in January 2024, and played 19 times in the second tier, 15 of which were starts.

'I could've played a little bit better but you're not going to play perfect tennis all the time. I'm just going to enjoy every moment and I was super happy that I was given the chance to play. 'I'm just trying to enjoy being on the court. 'I've got my technical stuff that I can still work on but just being able to give it my all and not let anything get to me that's outside my control. Piani is next in action on Tuesday, where she and Black take on Czech sisters Alena and Jana Kovackova. 'I'm super excited,' added Piani. Wearing the type of back-to-front cap that was his dad's trademark, the 16-year-old beat Russian Savva Rybkin 6-1 6-2 in the first round of the boys' competition. Lleyton, who beat David Nalbandian in the 2002 Wimbledon final, was courtside for his son's victory. Former world number one Lleyton also won the 2001 US Open and reached the final of the 2005 Australian Open. Cruz made his senior Grand Slam debut at the 2025 Australian Open after being given a wildcard into qualifying. Injured Thompson finally has to quit at Wimbledon
Jordan Thompson's courageous, injury-hit Wimbledon odyssey is over as the battling Australian had to finally admit defeat to his physical problems, forced to retire during a one-sided fourth-round clash with American fifth seed Taylor Fritz. The Australian No.3, barely able to move properly after he seemed to land yet another injury on No.1 Court, finally had to call it a day at 6-1 3-0 down on Sunday, his dream of reaching his first grand slam quarter-final shattered. "Not the way I wanted to go through, I was excited to play Jordan today, I was excited to play good tennis," Fritz told the No.1 Court crowd. He glanced up to his player's box which featured Davis Cup captain Lleyton Hewitt, as he found himself being outclassed in a first set that lasted just 21 minutes while rain from a storm outside lashed against the court roof. Thompson had an eight-minute medical time-out off-court after Fritz raced into a 3-0 lead in the second set, but it was clearly only delaying the inevitable. On the resumption, when one more forehand winner flashed past the Australian, it left him shaking his head and going to the net to offer his hand to Fritz. His dream clash under the roof, as a storm raged outside, in his ninth Wimbledon had lasted only 41 minutes. It's possible now that Thompson may even decide to give the rest of the season a miss, such has been the litany of injuries the 31-year-old has suffered this year.
