KHALED AL KHAWALDEH (ABU DHABI)UAE cities' connectivity and vibrant commercial centres stood out as major strengths in a new report that measures the viability of emerging hubs around the world.'The Cities Shaping the Future' report by global firm Olyver Wyman ranks cities on an index, measuring them across four factors that impact their viability as global centres for commerce and trade in a changing world. These factors include the strength of their commercial hubs, their manufacturing base, their connections to the outside world, and climate resilience.Dubai ranked 8th for its commercial hubs and fourth for its mobility and connectivity. Abu Dhabi follows on the 29th spot for its commercial hubs and 34th for its connectivity.'The global economy is undergoing the biggest transformation in a generation. Geopolitical tensions, protectionist pressures, and a wave of industrial policies are prompting corporations to rethink where they produce and market their goods and services. At the same time, demographic shifts are fuelling the emergence of new centres of production and consumer demand,' the report read.'[Dubai] will benefit from the megatrends reshaping opportunities across our 15,000 cities,' it added. With its strong aviation and port services, retail brand and financial centre, Oliver Wyman Forum believes the city will only grow as a centre point between East and West, and it is well capitalised to win in a more fragmented world. It said this was evidenced by the city's increasing cargo and passenger flows, as well as strong economic figures.Dubai and Abu Dhabi scored moderately on their manufacturing capability, ranking 127th and 222nd, a ranking which Olyver Wyman Forum said would likely rise amid shifting global supply chains.'Forces are creating new drivers of growth and innovation, shifting the global economy's centre of gravity away from the North American and European markets that powered the 20th century,' the report read. 'This is happening most dramatically and visibly in the fast-growing cities of Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East.'
Regionally, Riyadh and Istanbul also stood out in the rankings, ranking above Dubai owing to their more favourable climate.

Witbe to debut Agentic AI and automation tools at IBC 2025

Alongside Agentic AI, Witbe will showcase its latest innovations at IBC 2025. At IBC 2025, Witbe is set to unveil its latest innovation, Agentic AI, marking a significant leap in automation for video service providers. This new technology introduces intelligent, adaptive agents that elevate testing, monitoring, and team collaboration, enabling providers to deliver flawless viewer experiences even in the most complex environments. Marie-Véronique Lacaze, Co-founder and President of Witbe, said: 'IBC is a key opportunity for us to connect with the European broadcast and streaming community. We're excited to share how our technology continues to push the boundaries of what's possible. This year, we're proud to introduce Witbe Agentic AI, a defining step forward for our industry. It's about giving providers the power to deliver the highest-quality experiences at scale while making testing and monitoring more intelligent and collaborative for the evolving challenges of modern video delivery.' In addition to Agentic AI, Witbe will present several other technological advancements. Among the highlights is its Virtual NOC, a cloud-accessible collaborative workspace designed for real-time remote testing and troubleshooting across all types of devices, from older set-top boxes to the latest smart TVs and apps. The Virtual NOC's enhanced interface offers mosaic views, customisable dashboards, scenario automation and features like device clustering and video recording, making it a powerful tool for QA, engineering, and operations teams. It also supports single sign-on and unlimited user access with detailed permissions. Another key showcase at IBC 2025 is Witbe's collaboration with TAG Video Systems, delivering comprehensive source-to-screen monitoring. This integration, which proved its reliability during the 2025 American football championship final, merges real-device testing with content matching and latency tracking, offering a unified, actionable view of the video delivery chain and helping teams detect and solve issues quickly. Witbe will also demonstrate its Ad Monitoring and Ad Matching technology, designed to identify ad delivery problems in FAST, AVOD and live streams. The system captures issues like slates, duplicates and ad failures that often go unnoticed, giving providers clearer insights into their ad performance. With mobile and vertical video formats on the rise, Witbe's Video Mobile Automation solution will also be on display. This plug-and-play tool enables seamless testing on real mobile devices and supports real-time performance monitoring across short-form and vertical content, ensuring optimal playback, availability, and buffering across all screens. Through these innovations, Witbe continues to push the frontiers of automated video quality assurance, offering service providers the tools they need to keep pace with evolving consumer expectations. UAE, EU deepen trade ties, advance CEPA negotiations in Brussels

The UAE and the European Union have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and advancing negotiations toward a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) during a meeting in Brussels. Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of Foreign Trade, met with Maroš Šefčovič, European Commissioner for Trade, to review progress following the first round of CEPA negotiations, held in June and early July. The discussions served as a platform to assess ongoing developments and reinforce the shared objective of deepening trade, investment and economic cooperation. Both sides expressed optimism and the long-term benefits of the agreement. In 2024, non-oil trade between the UAE and the EU reached $67 billion, reflecting a 2.4 per cent increase over the previous year. The EU remains one of the UAE's most significant trade partners, accounting for 8.3 per cent of its total non-oil trade. 'The European Union is a highly valued trade and investment partner for the UAE, with ties that continue to deepen across a range of sectors. This growth in trade is aligned with our mutual interests and highlights the importance of collaboration in areas such as energy transition, advanced technology and food security,' said Dr. Al Zeyoudi. During the meeting, both parties discussed strategies to expand investment in high-growth sectors, including renewable energy and advanced manufacturing. The UAE has already developed strong partnerships with several EU member states, supported by active joint projects in solar energy and innovative technologies. As the UAE continues to diversify its economy, the CEPA programme remains a key pillar of its foreign trade agenda. A successful UAE-EU CEPA is expected to enhance market access, attract investment and support sustainable economic development across both regions.
