DeFi company Blueprint Finance raises $9.5 million from Polychain Capital
Unlike in traditional finance, it isn't as easy as letting money sit in a savings account to earn interest on your crypto holdings. In order to see a return in the crypto space, holders have to go through a number of complicated steps to engage programs where they can loan out their crypto to borrowers with interest.
That's why Blueprint Finance, a crypto startup based in New York, is seeking to make it easier for crypto investors to put their holdings to work. The company announced on Monday that it has raised $9.5 million in a funding round led by Polychain Capital with participation from YZi Labs, formerly Binance Labs, and VanEck.
Blueprint Finance, founded by CEO Nic Roberts-Huntley in 2023, has released two products, called Concrete and Glow, that aim to allow crypto investors to make money on their holdings through the use of decentralized finance, or DeFi. DeFi refers to any financial service, like lending or borrowing, that is conducted on a blockchain and without the involvement of a central bank.
A popular form of DeFi is lending and borrowing, where investors can earn interest on their crypto holdings by lending their crypto out to borrowers in need of short-term capital. The borrowers pledge to provide a return on that loan. In order to ensure that lenders will get their money back, borrowers collateralize the loan with their own crypto. If the value of their collateral falls below a certain threshold, the borrower is automatically liquidated meaning they are forced to repay the loan and their collateral is sold.
Blueprint Finance, and other DeFi companies, seek to eliminate the complexities and maximize the returns that come from these programs with their own products. 'The big premise here is, how do we give anybody, institutional down to pure retail, the easiest access and the best utility from their digital assets in terms of return on their capital?,' Roberts-Huntley told Fortune.
Concrete, Blueprint Finance's first product released in early 2024, is specifically tailored to lending and borrowing on any blockchain that uses the Ethereum virtual machine like Ethereum, Base, and Polygon.
Earlier this year, Blueprint Finance launched its second product called Glow, which is a rebranded and updated version of a Solana blockchain-based lending platform called Jet Protocol which Blueprint Finance acquired in 2024. Glow focuses on allowing investors in the Solana ecosystem to lend, borrow, and trade within one platform.
Concrete and Glow both produce revenue by charging a performance fee when an investor receives a return on their loan as well as fees for managing the lending and borrowing process.
In recent years, the crypto lending market has ballooned into an over $36 billion industry, and numerous companies are trying to capitalize on the growing institutional interest in DeFi services. In 2023, the leading crypto exchange in the U.S. Coinbase, launched a lending program specifically for its institutional customers. There are other popular lending programs available to average retail investors like Morpho and Aave.
Blueprint Finance will spend the money raised in this round on hiring new employees, engineering and marketing, Roberts-Huntley said.
Roberts-Huntley declined to disclose the company's annual revenue and its valuation in this round. Blueprint Finance previously raised $7.5 million in 2024, bringing the company's total funding to date to $17 million.

Asia Morning Briefing: ETH Bulls Eye $3K as Validator Backbone Upgrade Rolls In
Welcome to Asia Morning Briefing, a daily summary of top stories during U.S. hours and an overview of market moves and analysis. For a detailed overview of U.S. markets, see CoinDesk's Crypto Daybook Americas. As Asia begins a new trading week, ETH is trading close to $2500, up 11% in the seven days, according to CoinDesk market data, outperforming BTC. Market observers have attributed ETH's outperformance versus bitcoin and other major cryptocurrencies to a string of bullish headlines in the past few weeks. Stablecoins have regulatory clarity thanks to the GENIUS Act – and Ethereum is home to the most stablecoin deposits; ETH exchange-traded funds (ETFs) continue to see sizable flow. Technical analysis by CoinDesk's analyst Omkar Godbole indicates a potential bullish case is forming on-chain, with traders increasingly viewing $ 3,000 ETH as a possibility in the near future. But behind the scenes, something more fundamental is happening. Ethereum's validator architecture, the backbone of its proof-of-stake security model, is undergoing a quiet transformation that could cement ETH's role as Wall Street's favorite programmable asset. At the center of that shift is distributed validator technology, or DVT, a system that allows Ethereum validators to be split across multiple operators and machines, making them far more resilient, secure, and decentralized. Obol Labs is one of the leading teams behind the technology. 'Ethereum is coming back in favor because it's the most secure and battle-tested blockchain,' said Anthony Bertolino, head of ecosystem at Obol Labs. 'And security comes from validators. The most advanced and secure ones now are distributed validators.' Obol's technology eliminates a long-standing problem in Ethereum staking: single points of failure. Traditional validators rely on a single node to propose and attest to blocks. If that node goes offline or is misconfigured, the validator is penalized, or slashed in Ethereum parlance. Obol's system uses threshold cryptography and an 'active-active' architecture so that even if some nodes fail, the validator keeps running without interruption. This upgrade is not just a technical improvement. It is an institutional requirement. As Ethereum sees inflows from ETFs, funds, and structured finance products, staking infrastructure needs to meet the standards of traditional capital allocators. Blockdaemon, for instance, recently announced that it is integrating Obol's distributed validator technology into its staking infrastructure. Blockdaemon is a $100 billion name for institutional crypto. 'Historically, institutions had to choose between performance and security,' Bertolino said. 'Now they get both.' Momentum is building fast. Lido, Ethereum's largest staking protocol with $22 billion in total value locked, is preparing to approve distributed validator use across its 'Curated Set' — the collection of professional node operators who manage over 30 percent of all staked ETH. A new governance proposal would allow these operators to use either Obol or SSV in intra-operator setups, and eventually expand usage across thousands of validators. This move builds on the success of Lido's Simple DVT Module, which has already deployed over 9,600 DVT-powered validators with a 97.5 percent effectiveness score, outperforming the network average. 'These clusters are already showing better uptime, higher effectiveness, and similar yields to conventional setups,' Bertolino said. 'This is the infrastructure shift that makes Ethereum staking enterprise-grade.' For Ethereum, the implications go beyond validator design. DVT mitigates one of the network's core criticisms, that its staking layer is increasingly centralized, and helps fulfill the vision of Ethereum to be neutral, distributed infrastructure. "Institutions are thinking about two things. How do I secure the assets, and how do I generate attractive yield? Historically, you had to choose one. DVT gives you both,' Bertolino said. And Wall Street continues to pay attention. Coinbase shares have surged 84% in the past two months, far outpacing bitcoin's 14% gain and raising red flags about overvaluation, according to 10x Research, covered late last week by CoinDesk. In a Friday note, Head of Research Markus Thielen recommended a short COIN/long BTC trade, arguing that Coinbase's fundamentals—mainly trading volumes—don't justify the rally. 'While Coinbase hasn't quite breached the +30% overvaluation threshold, it's approaching fast,' Thielen wrote, suggesting options strategies or pair trades to exploit the potential reversal. 10x's model finds 75% of COIN's price action is tied to bitcoin's price and volumes, meaning recent gains likely reflect excessive speculation. The report notes other bullish catalysts, including Circle's IPO and U.S. stablecoin legislation, are likely priced in, while Korean investor momentum is fading. 'This rare deviation suggests Coinbase's valuation is extended and vulnerable to mean reversion,' Thielen said, warning that COIN could soon follow other overheated crypto stocks lower. BTC: Bitcoin is trading above $108K as Asia opens its trading week, but analyst Michaël van de Poppe says it must break $109K resistance to sustain momentum, with the rally fueled more by leveraged futures than spot demand. ETH: Ethereum broke above $2,440 with strong volume support, signaling bullish momentum amid new U.S. stock market highs, improving global liquidity, and easing geopolitical tensions. Gold: Gold is trading at $3,248.26, down slightly, as Australia cuts its commodity export earnings forecast due to weak iron ore and gas prices despite surging gold. Nikkei 225: Nikkei 225 futures are trending higher with an expectation that the White House will reach trade deals with Japan and other export-heavy Asian economies. Which Cryptocurrency Will Boom in the Second Half of 2025?
Bitcoin could surge in the second half of the year, thanks to new demand coming from corporations, institutional investors, and sovereign governments. Ethereum could receive a boost from a new SEC rule change related to staking. Tron has the potential to grow quickly in the second half of the year, as a result of new support from the Trump administration and members of the Trump family. 10 stocks we like better than Bitcoin › Despite all the hype and euphoria that surrounded the crypto market in January, only a handful of top cryptocurrencies are actually up for the year. So crypto investors will need to count on a few big comebacks over the next six months. My top three candidates for a cryptocurrency that will boom in the second half of 2025 are Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC), Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH), and Tron (CRYPTO: TRX). Bitcoin is a no-brainer. It's already one of the top-performing cryptos of the year, and has received significant support from the Trump administration over the past few months. The big move by the White House, of course, was the creation of the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve in March. That essentially gave the green light to institutional investors to ramp up their Bitcoin strategies going forward. One surprising development this year has seen the unprecedented growth of Bitcoin treasury companies. The goal of these companies is simple: buy up as much Bitcoin as they possibly can, as fast as they can, as cheaply as they can. These companies are following the lead of Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR), the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin in the world, which rebranded as a Bitcoin treasury company in February. The big question, of course, is just how much higher Bitcoin can go this year, even with all this new demand. The world's top cryptocurrency turned in triple-digit returns in both 2023 and 2024, and many crypto investors were expecting Bitcoin to turn in a similar performance this year. But Bitcoin is only up 14% for the year. So it will need a massive year-end rally to reach the much-hyped $200,000 price level. Ethereum may be down more than 25% year to date, but new rules on staking could change that. "Staking" is a popular way of earning yield on cryptocurrency holdings, and has been the subject of much controversy since early 2023, when the SEC launched an investigation into staking activity. As a result, when the new spot Ethereum ETFs launched in July 2024, they did not include a staking component. That's why these ETFs underperformed when they launched, according to insiders. However, the pro-crypto approach of the Trump administration quickly led to a shakeup at the SEC earlier this year, and the thinking now is that government regulators will back down on staking. As a result, spot Ethereum ETFs will likely be allowed to offer staking, and that could lead to a tsunami of new money moving into Ethereum. Crypto investors point to sustained buying of Ethereum by BlackRock, the company behind the popular iShares Ethereum Trust. Over the past few weeks, BlackRock has been buying Ethereum hand over fist, and that's because it is likely expecting an imminent SEC decision on staking. Tron is the real dark horse candidate. Even though Tron currently ranks among the top 10 cryptocurrencies in terms of market cap, chances are most U.S.-based investors are not familiar with it. That's because the founder of Tron is Justin Sun, a controversial Chinese crypto billionaire who has had numerous run-ins with U.S. regulatory authorities. Heading into 2025, he was still facing potential SEC investigations. As a result, it can sometimes be hard to find U.S.-based cryptocurrency exchanges where you can buy and sell Tron. But here's the thing: Justin Sun is now affiliated with the growing Trump crypto empire. In mid-2024, he made a significant investment into World Liberty Financial, the crypto venture affiliated with the Trump family. In January 2025, he immediately scooped up $75 million of the new Official Trump meme coin and later purchased even more of the meme coin, leading to his being able to attend the Trump meme coin dinner with the president. And he has continually found ways to establish ties with members of the Trump family, to the point where Eric Trump recently called him "a great friend and icon in the crypto space." In late February 2025, the SEC sent a request to the court overseeing its civil fraud case against Sun, asking for a 60-day stay to explore settlement proceedings. Now, Sun is going into overdrive to build out his Tron crypto empire. In June, he announced a reverse merger with publicly traded SRM Entertainment, which will rebrand itself as "Tron Inc." and transform into a Tron treasury company (i.e., primarily holding Tron as its sole asset). He's also partnered with World Liberty Financial on a new stablecoin project. I completely understand if all this seems a bit speculative, and perhaps even a bit unsavory. However, the whole point of this exercise was to find cryptocurrencies that might "boom" in the second half of 2025. And I can't think of another cryptocurrency that has a similar opportunity to completely reinvent itself in the second half of the year. If forced to choose between Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Tron, my top pick is still Bitcoin. It's the world's most popular cryptocurrency for a reason -- in terms of mainstream adoption, no other cryptocurrency even comes close. Bitcoin might not double in value this year, but I'm still expecting it to boom within the next few months. 6 Fastest-Growing Cryptos in 2025 To Consider Buying Now
Whether you're interested in cryptocurrency due to its lack of regulation or because you have a high risk tolerance when it comes to investing, it still pays to know what is trending and growing. That is where the momentum is in the marketplace, so if you're only familiar with bigger names like Bitcoin (BTC) or buzzier ones like Dogecoin (DOGE), navigating the crypto world can be tricky. Check Out: For You: Recently, much of the crypto market has seen a dip thanks to a growing amount of economic uncertainty. However, many of these cryptocurrencies are still growing and should level out in the long run. Although subject to change at any time — much like almost everything when it comes to investing, but especially crypto — here are some of the cryptocurrencies you might want to check out. Performance YTD: 381% Price: $2.18 Market cap: $128.45 billion Formerly known as Ripple, XRP was created to enable faster money transactions. This digital asset's real-world utility is to power Ripplenet, a system that better enables more efficient transfers. Though not directly on the blockchain technology, the XRP ledger is open source, though some experts do debate if it's technically a cryptocurrency. Regardless, it remains an investment worth considering. Be Aware: Performance YTD: -23.8% Price: $144.30 Market cap: $76.7 billion Solana, like most cryptocurrencies, plunged more than 50% in the wake of the FTX collapse in late 2022. However, the crypto has bounced back from its lows as some investors still believe in the long-term potential of the token here in 2025. Solana boasts a distinctive 'proof-of-history' technology, but it also has other unique advantages that make it a fast-growing cryptocurrency. One of the most important is its speed, with block times of 400 milliseconds and a transaction speed of about 3,500 per second. Performance YTD: -31% Price: $0.58 Market cap: $20.7 billion Cardano is another crypto darling that got walloped a few years ago but has been steadily climbing back. The 'proof-of-stake' blockchain platform is the first based on Ouroboros, which was the first peer-reviewed, verifiably secure blockchain protocol. The environmentally sustainable blockchain protocol uses a layer-2 scaling solution, known as Hydra, that is intended to ultimately handle as many as one million transactions per second. Those types of speeds make other industry giants look very old school in the race for crypto supremacy. Performance YTD: -26.05% Price: $0.25 Market cap: $7.72 billion Almost akin to using cash, it is among the more energy-efficient on the crypto exchange with its ability to operate without a financial intermediary and facilitate peer-to-peer transactions. Founded in 2014, Stellar uses blockchain technology, yet has a seemingly more approachable and user-friendly interface and experience. Performance YTD: -35.2% Price: $13.37 Market cap: $9.06 billion Simply put, this crypto powers the Chainlink network. It is used to pay operators for connecting smart contracts to real-world data, which means it is crucial for the functionality of decentralized finance, or DeFi apps. Performance YTD: -49.5% Price: $18.17 Market cap: $7.67 billion Avalanche has a lot of exciting features behind it that make it fast-growing. For starters, it is the single fastest smart contracts platform in the blockchain industry. As users favor speed, many gravitate towards this platform. It's also low-cost and eco-friendly. Developers can build ethereum (ETH) decentralization applications (dApps) without limits as avalanche is Solidity-compatible. Though it has had a recent decline, The consensus among experts and analysts is that it will trade, on average, around $38.65 by the end of 2025, representing an estimated 56.86% growth from current prices. Regardless of what you think about cryptocurrency, there's no getting around the fact that its prices remain volatile and it's a very speculative investment. Although some cryptos have high growth potential, it's also hard to know which ones will go bust. Simply put, it's always hard to predict which crypto will boom, but especially during market volatility and economic uncertainty. Although the six cryptos listed above are currently fast-growing and could be the next booming cryptocurrency, there are no guarantees in the space — and 'fast-growing' doesn't necessarily predict future price gains. Some are still new to the market and may either be the 'next big thing' or a total bust. With such uncertainty, it's imperative that you consult with a financial advisor and only invest money you can afford to lose if you choose to dabble in the crypto market.
