Man charged after death of mother more than 30 years ago
Shona Stevens, 31, was discovered badly injured on a path in woodland near her home in Irvine, North Ayrshire, on November 10 1994.
She later died in hospital.
On Friday, Police Scotland announced that a 67-year-old had been arrested – with an update on Saturday revealing the man has now been charged.
It comes more than three decades after Ms Stevens was found injured on a footpath near to the rear of Alder Green in the Bourtreehill Park area of Irvine.
Senior investigation officer Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Gillies said: 'I would like to thank the members of the local community who assisted us in our inquiries.
'I am grateful for their information and input which greatly contributed to our investigation.'
The man is now expected to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday July 28.

Danis Voldoka jailed for 'abhorrent' sex offences on woman

Mystery murder of couple killed in front of their young kids on ‘remote' hike as cops release creepy details of suspect
A COUPLE has been killed in broad daylight while they were hiking with their two children. Clinton and Cristen Brink's remains were discovered on a rural trail and cops are now hunting for their killer. 4 4 They had been walking in an area of Devil's Den State Park in rural Arkansas on Saturday afternoon when they were killed. Their young daughters, seven and nine, were with them but they were not injured. Cops have released details of the suspect, They said he was wearing dark pants and a long-sleeved shirt. He is being described as a white male with a medium build. He was wearing a baseball cap, fingerless gloves, and sunglasses, and carrying a black backpack. The suspect was seen driving toward one of the park's exit in a black sedan. Cops believe he may have been driving in a Mazda car that had its license plate covered - either by electrical or duct tape. Radio that reveals the moment officers found the bodies have since been released. One trooper urged his fellow officer to comb the main trail first, as reported by the Fox affiliate KNWA-TV. 'Main trail, I saw hiking down, I'm asking for help,' the trooper told his colleague. 'Say that again, repeat,' the second officer replied. 'I hear yells calling for help, we're walking down,' the trooper added. Officers then relayed on the call they found two bodies at the scene. Clinton and Cristen had recently moved to the town of Prairie Grove from another state, according to cops. Dairy Driver Clinton, from California, had previously lived in Montana, according to his Facebook profile. Cristen shared a picture of herself and Clinton on her Facebook account on May 25 - two months before they were killed. GRISLY DEATHS Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the Arkansas governor, vowed authorities will not rest until the suspect is brought to justice. She described the deaths of Clinton and Cristen as 'horrific.' Tourists have shared their horror after spotting cops at the scene. "We're from Texas so we came in for the weekend and we came up here and there are cop cars all around there," one woman told the CBS affiliate KTHV-TV. "We're a little concerned." She recalled how park officials could only tell her law enforcement was responding to an emergency. Police sealed off an area of the park as part of their probe, while Arkansas State Parks officials have confirmed all trails at Devil's Den State Park are shut until further notice. There are 135 campsites and 17 cabins in Devil's Den park. The park is in a rural location where terrain is rugged and there is no cellphone service. Terror probe as man arrested 'after shouting Allahu Akbar and death to Trump' on flight from Luton to Glasgow
A man has been arrested over a disturbance on board an easyJet flight to Scotland. The suspect was removed from the aircraft, which had travelled from London Luton Airport, after it touched down at Glasgow Airport at about 8.20am on Sunday. Footage is circulating online which appears to show a man on a plane shouting something about a "bomb", along with "death to America, death to Trump" and "Allahu Akbar" - an Arabic phrase that means "God is greater". The man is then tackled to the ground and pinned to the floor of the aircraft by two men. Police Scotland said a 41-year-old man was arrested and remains in custody. The force said enquiries are continuing, with a spokesperson adding: "At this time we believe the incident was contained and that nobody else was involved. The incident comes as US President Donald Trump is currently enjoying a private visit to Scotland. An easyJet spokesperson said: "Flight EZY609 from Luton to Glasgow yesterday was met by police on arrival in Glasgow, where they boarded the aircraft and removed a passenger due to their behaviour on board. "EasyJet's crew are trained to assess all situations and act quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other customers is not compromised at any time. "The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is always easyJet's highest priority."
