"We're sitting pretty": Sundar remains unfazed despite late collapse, backs India to trounce England on final day at Lord's
After emotions boiled over and tempers frayed, India limped to 58/4 before the end of the day's play. With the possibility of a draw being minuscule, the equation remains clear. India stands 135 runs away from victory, while England holds onto the belief of scalping six wickets to restore their lead yet again.
Sundar, who was the mastermind behind England's collapse on 192 in the second and final session, prophesied the outcome of the enthralling contest and said on Sky Sports, 'Definitely India winning tomorrow.'
'I mean, we want so many things the way we expect it to be, but yes, we would take it any day. I mean, we'd really come out positive tomorrow. We've got some solid batsmen in the dressing room. And yeah, it's exciting in every way. You know, winning a test in Lord's is going to be amazing. So I think we're sitting pretty,' he told reporters in a press conference after the end of the day's play.
The 25-year-old bowled in tandem with the seasoned Ravindra Jadeja to wreak havoc. Captain Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Jamie Smith and Shoaib Bashir fell to Sundar's ploy. He exploited the rough flawlessly to have them all clean bowled. Some of his deliveries straightened after landing, while some spun sharply, casting doubts into the minds of English batters.
'The way the fast bowlers came out today and kept the pressure on throughout the day was amazing. The plans for me and Ravindra Jadeja [the spinners] was not to give away too many runs but the way things went for us was very good. We need to do whatever the team demands. It is going to be exciting. We have all day, but there needs to be the perfect plan,' Sundar added.
In the second session, England remained unperturbed with Stokes and Root at the crease, steadily steering the hosts to a wicketless session. With India desperately hunting for a breakthrough, Sundar took the brunt on his shoulders and managed to sneak the ball past Root's swinging bat.
He rattled the exposed leg stump to regain control, bringing an end to the threatening 67-ton stand. As Root returned on 40(96), the in-form Smith lasted just 14 balls after Sundar intensified the pressure.
Sundar continued to prosper and rattle stumps in the final session. With Stokes tussling for control against the ball tweakers, the 25-year-old ensured he walked back to the dressing room in agony.
With figures of 4/22 in 12.1 overs, Sundar became just the fifth Indian spinner to take four wickets or more in a Test at Lord's. While reflecting on his performance, he said, 'I mean, definitely one of the best days with the ball for me, especially outside of India. But yes, definitely had some solid plans coming into this test match and really wanted to execute them both in the first and second innings.'
'Mostly wanted to contribute to the team quite differently in different passages of play. But yes, the way it turned out to be for me as well as the team, the whole day today is really good and very heartening for me,' he added. (ANI)

India captain Shubman Gill provided an update on his vice captain Rishabh Pant's injury which he sustained while keeping during the opening day of the Lord's Test, something that kept him away from wicketkeeping duties. He is receiving treatment at the moment and under the supervision of the medical team. Dhruv Jurel is currently keeping wickets in Rishabh's absence,' the BCCI had said On Monday, Gill also didn't spell out whether Bumrah will be available for the Manchester Test which starts in nine days time. However, he added that he was proud of the team for their efforts and said they could have won the match if they have gotten some 5–run partnerships. 'Extremely proud it was as close a Test match as it can get, played over five days and comes down to the last session. I was pretty confident of our chances with plenty of batting left. India vs England 3rd Test: Mutual respect emerges from under veil of fiery animosity on epic Day 5 at Lord's
The fifth day of the third match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy ended up being an exhibition of some old-fashioned, hard-nosed Test cricket. The spice of the Test, first truly laid in the last over of Day 3, continued into the start of the fifth day and, remarkably, it closed out with shots of Harry Brook, Zak Crawley and Joe Root being among the first to lift a distraught Mohammed Siraj, who was in their faces for most of the time they were at the crease with the bat, and England captain Ben Stokes giving Ravindra Jadeja a bear hug. England won the Test by by 22 runs but that was only after they dealt with 50 overs and one delivery of resistance from India's last three wickets, anchored by Jadeja who stayed unbeaten on 61 off 181 balls. Most of the animosity was concentrated in the early exchanges of the day, in which Jofra Archer dismissed Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar in a devastating early spell. Archer had donned the role of the pantomime villain in that period. He made sure to give send-offs to both the players that he dismissed. Even after he was taken off the attack, Archer remained in the batsmen's faces, having some words with Nitish Kumar Reddy, notably. Brook could also be heard telling Reddy from the slips that he is no longer playing in the IPL. Reddy also had a few words with Stokes but arguably the biggest flare-up was between Brydon Carse and Jadeja about four overs before Lunch. Bumrah himself kept out 54 balls and the ninth wicket stand with Jadeja ended up producing 35 runs in 132 balls. When Bumrah finally fell to a tireless Stokes just before the end of the second session, India still needed only 46 to win. Jadeja and Siraj kept chipping the runs away while keeping out the England bowlers. The dismissal that broke the stand was a cruel throwback for Indian fans of a certain vintage. Those who would remember watching the epic Chennai Test between India and Pakistan in 1999 would've seen the uncanny similarity between how Siraj fell and Javagal Srinath's dismissal back then – the ball coming off the top half of his bat and trickling behind to the wicket. Srinath had fallen to the offspin of Saqlain Mushtaq then, Siraj fell to off-spinner Shoaib Bashir. Siraj was down on his haunches for what seemed like an eternity but by then, all the animosity early in the day was replaced by respect. Brook first came to give Siraj a pat on the back and this was followed by Crawley and Root consoling him once he finally managed to get to his feet. India captain Shubman Gill, whose words to Crawley at the end of Day 3 was almost the face of that heated phase of play, acknowledged the respect both sides end up having for each other after a match like this. 'You have to give credit where it's due… The kind of efforts his (Stokes') team put in was commendable,' said Gill in the post-match press conference. 'You give everything and there are going to be moments when a lot of heat and emotions from both sides. But at the end of the day after a test match like this, there is always admiration from both sides.'
