RM2,000 fine for unlicensed street photographers at KLCC
Well it appears the authorities have finally answered the clarion call to bust them for good.
A recent video on X showed the police officers in action, carting the offenders off besides handing them a hefty fine of RM2,000.
Is that the right step towards restoring the image of Malaysia in the eyes of the international community? It is the first, and hopefully not the last.

Netizens, however, were divided over the action of the municipal council, with some saying that it was rather heavy handed.
'If actions are not taken, they will rein unchecked and affect the image of the country when it is Visit Malaysia 2026,' said @MohamadYusofBi6. Another netizen said, 'Power to DBKL.'
So was @Pokokpangkal who suggested they spot check the place everyday.
But @budaknakal779 believed only a small number of these people had bad behaviour, and that they had ruined everyone.
'I had some friends who once provided photography services at KLCC and the price was affordable,' he added.
Also, netizen @khairishith shrugged off the fine, stating that it was alright if they profited at about RM5,000 to RM10,000.
The brief video provided little detail about the scene, but news portal The New Straits Times said around 30 freelance street photographers were issued compound notices on Sunday night while offering instant photo services to visitors at KLCC.
According to the authorities, the individuals were operating without proper permits in a public area.
This enforcement action came in response to a series of public complaints, as well as a recent incident involving some of the photographers that gained attention on social media.
These freelancers are commonly seen at popular tourist destinations, providing quick smartphone photography services to both locals and international tourists, said the news portal.
Authorities have since indicated that they are exploring the possibility of introducing a formal licensing system to better regulate freelance photography in public spaces. —July 29, 2025

He said that initial investigations revealed that three of the seized high-end vehicles were being driven by foreigners without valid road tax or insurance coverage, Muhammad Kifli said. 'One of the foreign drivers was also found to be using a fake international driving permit, allegedly purchased in Dubai for RM5,000.' He said that these cars were rented, while some were owned by companies where the individuals were employed. The Rolls-Royce is believed to be owned by a businessman. Speaking to reporters yesterday, Muhammad Kifli said 'Ops Luxury 2.0' was conducted by Kuala Lumpur JPJ based on intelligence gathering and public tip-offs. 'The operation was carried out under the Road Transport Act and related regulations,' he said. Muhammad Kifli said that JPJ did not practise selective enforcement and would continue taking firm action regardless of vehicle type or the status of their owners. 'Our enforcement doesn't focus solely on motorcycles. Luxury vehicles are not exempted. 'We are carrying out this operation nationwide,' he said. Muhammad Kifli added that there are currently more than 1,000 luxury vehicles nationwide flagged by JPJ for not having valid road tax or insurance. 'Vehicle owners are urged to renew their road tax immediately. 'We will not compromise with anyone who fails to comply with traffic regulations,' he said.

Dr Winnie Ong Beng Cheen, 44, was charged with deceiving the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) into believing that a domestic worker registration form – purportedly signed by one Cheah Chyuan Yong – was genuine. The single mother of four is accused of intentionally inducing PERKESO into registering Indonesian domestic worker, Nurhayati Hasan, which then led to Cheah, her employer, being misled into making monthly contributions of RM20.60. The alleged offence was committed at No. 22A, Jalan Mesra, Taman Saujana Permai, Bukit Mertajam, on Nov 21, 2022. Dr Ong faces a maximum jail term of five years, a fine or both, upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Nor Shakila Dahari proposed a RM10,000 bail and the surrender of Dr Ong's passport, but lawyer Chiang Kian Hong appealed for a lower amount, saying she had cooperated fully with police. Magistrate Nurul Rasyidah Mohd Akit set bail at RM5,000 in one surety. The case was fixed for mention on Sept 4.

Four-year-old boy falls to death from 8th-storey window in Klang
KLANG: A four-year-old boy died after he fell out of an eight-floor flat unit on Friday (Aug 1) morning. According to South Klang deputy OCPD Supt Kamalariffin Aman Shah said the incident occurred at the Port Klang Perantau Flats' Block J. "At the time of the incident, the boy's father was at his workplace, and the mother was out of the house sending her second child to the babysitters. "The victim is believed to have fallen out of a window of his home on the eighth floor," said Supt Kamalariffin. He added that police received a distress call reporting the incident from a woman at 8am. According to Supt Kamalariffin, the victim was rushed to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital here for emergency treatment and pronounced dead during treatment. He said the post-mortem results indicated that the victim had suffered head injuries as a result of falling from a height. He also added that police opened an investigation under Section 31 (1) of the Child Act 2001 for child neglect, which comes with a jail term of not more than 20 years and a fine not exceeding RM50,000. "The police are urging members of the public, with other information pertaining to this incident, to go to the nearest police station or contact the South Klang police at 03-33762222 to help with the investigations," he said.
