Vedic maths to be added to NCERT textbooks for Classes 6 to 8 in Uttar Pradesh

In a new step towards revamping school education, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced that Vedic Mathematics will be introduced in NCERT textbooks for Classes 6 to 8 starting the 2025-26 academic session. This new addition will apply to all government-run schools in the maths, known for its quick and simple calculation techniques, will now be formally part of the school curriculum. It's being introduced as a way to sharpen students' numerical skills, reduce fear of maths, and bring Indian knowledge systems back into the mainstream -- just as the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) TEACHERS, CHANGING TEXTBOOKSTo make this change effective, teachers will be specially trained in Vedic maths techniques. New chapters on these methods will be included in the updated NCERT maths books. The focus will be on practical tricks using 16 sutras and 13 sub-sutras introduced by Swami Bharati Krishna Tirtha Ji in the early 20th century.'This is not just a method of calculation, but a cultural renaissance,' said Dr RK Mishra, a senior educationist. Experts believe that this approach will help boost both speed and accuracy in solving maths problems, especially for students who struggle with the subject.A PILOT MOVE THAT OTHER STATES MAY FOLLOWThe NEP 2020 encourages curriculum flexibility and local customisation. It gives states more freedom to incorporate regional knowledge, languages, and cultural the NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) creates standardised textbooks for schools following the CBSE or other centrally-aligned boards, the SCERT (State Council of Educational Research and Training) is the state-level counterpart which can tweak or supplement NCERT books as per local educational Uttar Pradesh SCERT is adding Vedic Maths as an additional component within the state's implementation of the NCERT UP government's move is part of a larger push to align with NEP 2020 by promoting Indian traditions in modern education. If the experiment works well, other states might follow suit and bring Vedic maths into their school systems too.(With inputs from Anand Raj)- Ends

Vedantu's Daksh Tayalia secures Karnataka rank 1 and AIR 15 in JEE advanced 2025

Daksh Tayalia Find out how he topped his state and scored full marks in mathematics. Daksh Tayalia, a student of Vedantu's 3-Year Long Term Batch, has achieved All India Rank 15 in the JEE Advanced 2025 exam, along with securing Rank 1 in Karnataka and a perfect 120/120 in Mathematics. Daksh's exceptional performance highlights his dedication. Daksh began his journey with Vedantu in ninth grade, discovering an online learning environment that was engaging and structured to foster deep conceptual understanding. "I started with Vedantu because I enjoyed the fun and interactive way of learning," Daksh says. "The online sessions allowed me to study at my own pace. I could revisit lessons, solve problems, and strengthen concepts, which helped me improve steadily. " A key challenge during Daksh's preparation was mastering the NCERT concepts, especially in Chemistry. "Chemistry was a bit of a struggle, and I only picked it up seriously late. I had to focus on revisiting the material and identifying those areas where I was weak," Daksh shares. "But Vedantu's online model made this process easier because I could go back to lessons and really understand the concepts in depth." The personalised guidance Daksh received was a crucial part of his success. "The flexibility of online learning made a huge difference," Daksh explains. "I could pace myself, manage my time better, and revisit difficult topics. What sets Vedantu apart is its personal touch, the teachers know you well, and you're not competing with your peers, but working to be your best self." Vedantu's long term batches provided Daksh with consistent mentorship and personalised study plans, helping him focus on self-improvement. Daksh's achievement reinforces the effectiveness of Vedantu's #StudentObsessed approach, where personalised attention, expert mentorship, and high-quality content come together to deliver real results, all through online learning. "Success is not just about hard work, but about having the right guidance and support," said Vamsi Krishna , Co-founder & CEO of Vedantu. "Daksh's journey, like many others, proves that Vedantu's online model — honed over the years — continues to deliver outcomes for students year after year." IISER's Prof Talukdar wins CRS Silver Star medal

Professor Pinaki Talukdar, a distinguished researcher from the department of chemistry at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Pune, has been awarded the prestigious Silver Star Medal by the Chirantan Rasayan Sanstha (CRS). The honour recognises his outstanding contributions to chemical sciences, particularly in the fields of research and innovation. Prof Talukdar will be formally felicitated during the upcoming CRS symposium. (HT) The CRS Silver Star Medal, one of the highest accolades conferred by the Chirantan Rasayan Sanstha, celebrates excellence in chemical research and aims to foster scientific progress in the discipline. Prof Talukdar will be formally felicitated during the upcoming CRS symposium. The two-day event is scheduled to take place at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Karnataka, between August 1 and 2. A distinguished scientist, Prof. Talukdar is especially recognised for his work in supramolecular chemistry, molecular recognition, and chemical biology—developing synthetic receptors and transport systems that mimic biological processes. Speaking to Hindustan Times, Prof. Talukdar expressed his gratitude, saying, 'Getting recognised for our research is very important. It's a kind of motivation for us.' His recent work involves creating artificial molecular systems that replicate natural protein channels in cells. 'We've developed three-dimensional structures capable of disrupting ion balance within a cell,' he explained. 'At the core of our work is the idea of disrupting the ionic balance in cancer cells. This imbalance leads to cell death, and we're now developing strategies to make this process highly specific to cancer cells,' he said. Unlike conventional cancer treatments that target proteins or DNA, Talukdar's novel approach embeds artificial channels in cell membranes, activating them selectively through chemical or enzymatic triggers. This method could reduce collateral damage to healthy cells, a common drawback of traditional therapies. Prof Talukdar has received several national accolades, including the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Chemical Sciences in 2018. He was also elected a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and holds a Wellcome Trust-DBT India Alliance Senior Fellowship. Having joined IISER Pune in its early years (2006–2007), Prof Talukdar has been a pivotal part of the institute's academic community for nearly 18 years.
