Funeral of young Scots boxer found dead after being 'fatally stabbed' announced
The final journey of a young Scots boxer who was found dead after being 'fatally stabbed' has been shared by his grieving family in a touching statement.
Josh Taplin was discovered after officers were called to a report of a concern for person at a property on Caldwell Avenue in Glasgow at around 3.35pm on May 5. Paramedics also attended the address, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family have now announced his funeral will take place on Saturday May 17 in his hometown with a celebration of life at a local pub to follow.
On May 14, Rebecca Taplin made a statement on behalf of the heartbroken family and thanked the community for their kindness at the "most difficult time of their lives."
Rebecca wrote: "On behalf of the Taplin family we would like to thank everyone for the kind words, messages and donations we have received during what is the most difficult time in our lives.
"Moodiesburn as a community has shown us a kindness that we'll never be able to repay. We will be laying Josh to rest this Saturday the 17th of May at 9.30am starting with a service at The Taplin family home.
"We will then walk behind Josh to his final resting place at Bedley cemetery and then on to The Silver Larch to raise a wee glass to Josh and share the many stories we all have of him. "We would like to invite all who knew and loved him to celebrate his life with us. Thank you all again for your love and support."
Just 24 hours after Josh's death, devastated loved ones raised more than £18,000 for his funeral. A murder probe had been launched by cops but on May 7, a man wanted for questioning over the murder of the 28-year-old died after falling from a window.
Cops confirmed the probe into Josh's death had concluded following the death of the 37-year-old man. His death was not believed to be suspicious.
Previously tributes flooded in for Josh on social media following the shock news. His big brother Gary Taplin wrote: 'Ma baby brother man broken.' While, his devastated girlfriend Toni Stewart added: 'I love you so much Josh.'
Friends hailed Josh as "one of the good guys". Kathleen Brady said: 'Absolutely heartbreaking, couldn't of happened to a nicer person.'
Mhairi Macleod said: 'Fly high Josh. You will be sorely missed by us all.' Sean Mullan said: "Canny believe it man, you were one of my best mates Josh. You were genuinely one in a million, rest easy brother taken far too soon."
Kirsty Russell said: 'One of the good guys.' Katie Mcgovern added: 'One in a million.'

Josh was also a boxer for Auchengeich Boxing Club and bagged wins at the Western District Scottish Championships and British Championships.
In a statement posted online the club said: 'We at Auchengeich Boxing are devastated at hearing the news of our boxer Josh Taplin. Josh won Western District Scottish Championships and British Championships.
'Our thoughts and prayers go out to Josh's family."
He was also a former football starlet who played in the youth ranks at Hamilton Accies.

Police scour scene as man found dead at Fife home in 'unexplained' incident
Officers in uniform were seen guarding the property after the body find on Tuesday afternoon. A man has been found dead at a home in Fife. Teen boy killed in E-bike horror crash as tributes pour in
The teenager died in an E-bike crash on Monday, July 22. A 15-year-old boy who died in a horror crash involving an e-bike has been named as Devon Simmonds. The teenager tragically lost his life following the incident on Rowrah Crescent in Middleton, just before midday on Monday, July 22. Emergency services raced to the scene but, despite their best efforts, Devon was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His devastated family are being supported by specially trained officers, say Greater Manchester Police. A 59-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody. Officers have also arrested another 15-year-old boy on suspicion of theft as part of their ongoing investigation, reports Manchester Evening News. The close-knit community has been left shaken by the tragedy. One neighbour who knew the boy and his family well, told the Manchester Evening News: "This involves the family of my friend. Another local, who said they knew of Devon, said: "He was a top, top lad. Lived on this estate all his life and a lot of people knew him. "He was very respectable, obviously it's a horrible thing to happen to him and his family." Greater Manchester Police say they are still working to piece together the full circumstances and are probing allegations of theft in the lead-up to the collision. Detective Chief Inspector Christopher Dean, from GMP's Rochdale district, said: 'This terrible incident has seen the death of a teenage boy, and we are working hard to establish the full facts of this case, in what is the very early stages of an investigation. "A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and will be questioned in due course, while officers are already in place to support the family of the boy who has died today. "I want to remind people that at the heart of this is a grieving family, and I would ask the community to not speculate on social media while we piece together the events of earlier today. Scottish Government must rethink our city centres and make them buzz again
Record View says our biggest cities should be hotbeds of activity. The shopping streets in Scotland's city centres are a magnet for bargain hunters and tourists. Glasgow's Argyle Street, Princes Street in Edinburgh and Aberdeen's Union Street are rightly famous. But they are in decline. There's no denying the 2020s have been extremely tough times for the retail sector. Covid lockdowns kept workers at home and forced people to shop online. A lot of shoppers also choose out-of- town locations, where parking is free. That has led to big-name stores closing and too many city centre units lying empty. But figures revealed by the Record today show that our most popular shopping streets are blighted not just by economic woes – but also by crime. Argyle Street in Glasgow has more crimes than any other thoroughfare in Scotland. Nearby Sauchiehall Street and Buchanan Street take second and third spot. Part of the issue is the growing problem of shoplifting. Thieves target the areas with the most shops. But there is also a problem with anti-social behaviour and violent crime in these main thoroughfares. It's clear city councils and Police Scotland need to be more effective in keeping our busiest streets safe. But it's not just about cracking down on crime. The Scottish Government and city councils need a proper rethink on what the city centre is for. If shopping is no longer the main reason for visiting these streets, let's make our city centres buzz in other ways. Bars, restaurants, cinemas, theatres and other attractions must be encouraged. Only then will our city centres – and our famous streets – come alive again. Keep the peace With the world's most powerful man flying into Scotland on Friday it's understandable that Scots will want to make their feelings clear. Donald Trump is behind some of the most disastrous policy decisions of the 21st century. His tariffs are going to plunge the whole globe into a new era of damaging trade wars. His erratic take on world affairs has made us all less safe. It is right that people will want to let Trump know we don't approve. But it's worth taking note of advice given out by Assistant Chief Constable Emma Bond from Police Scotland yesterday. She is in charge of policing around Trump's visit and her priority will be to facilitate peaceful and lawful protest. But she has warned that protests spilling over into violence or widespread disruption will be robustly dealt with. That is the right approach. Trump needs to know what people think of him – but nobody wants to see Scotland turned into a warzone.
