'Dragged out of his office, brutally kicked': Naveen Patnaik slams BJP over Odisha official's assault

'I am utterly shocked seeing this video. Today, Shri Ratnakar Sahoo , OAS Additional Commissioner, BMC, a senior officer of the rank of Additional Secretary was dragged from his office and brutally kicked and assaulted in front of a BJP Corporator, allegedly linked to a defeated BJP MLA Candidate,' Patnaik posted on X, along with footage of the incident. The BJD has held the BJP responsible for the incident and staged protests demanding swift action. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like War Thunder - Register now for free and play against over 75 Million real Players War Thunder Play Now Undo 'Political leaders who orchestrated and conspired must face action': Patnaik Patnaik criticised the law and order situation under the BJP government, asking whether citizens could feel safe if senior officers were being assaulted in their own offices. Live Events 'What is more appalling is that this happened in broad daylight, in the heart of the capital city to a senior officer while he was in his office, hearing grievances of people,' he said. 'If a senior officer is not safe in his own office, then what law and order will ordinary citizens expect from the Government.' — Naveen_Odisha (@Naveen_Odisha) The former chief minister urged Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to act decisively. 'I ask @MohanMOdisha Ji to take immediate and exemplary action against not only those who purported but more importantly the political leaders who orchestrated and conspired this shameful attack. The people named by the officer in his FIR have behaved like criminals.' He also referenced a previous case involving an assault on an officer by the ex-Governor's son, warning against a repeat of such impunity. 'I only hope that Shri Majhi directs immediate action to be taken to restore faith in his government and not allow this heinous act to go unpunished like the assault on an officer by the ex-Governor's son. The people of Odisha will not forgive this,' he said. Reacting to the incident, DCP Headquarters Prakash Chandra Pal told news agency ANI: 'All those involved will be arrested... Two teams have been formed and are investigating.' BJD MLA Arun Kumar Sahoo also condemned the attack and accused the BJP of fostering a deteriorating law and order situation. 'A senior OAS Officer has been beaten brutally by the BJP miscreants at the behest of some senior leaders... If such things happen at the state secretariat, this means there is no law and order situation in the state... The conspirators must be arrested,' he said.

Delay in draft DP due to pandemic: TMC tells HC
MUMBAI: The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) informed the Bombay high court that the delay of two years in publishing its draft development plan (DP) was due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The statement came in response to a petition challenging the legality of its draft DP published in October 2024. The statement came in response to a petition challenging the legality of its draft DP published in October 2024. (Shutterstock) The petition, filed through advocate Pravin Wategaonkar, claimed that the draft DP was published beyond the two-year time limit mandated under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act and, therefore, was untenable in law. TMC has, however, sought to exclude the period from June 2021 to March 2022 from the period. The Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act (MRTP) on October 11, 2024, via a notice, proposed a land to be converted from garden to residential use under the DP. Ravindra Mahadev Patil, a Thane resident, highlighted that the Unified Development Control & Promotion Regulations (UDCPR) for Maharashtra, 2020, prohibits any construction within 100 metres of the high flood line of natural lakes in regional plans. Patil stated that the proposal was published after the expiry of the mandatory 3-year timeframe, hence, prima facie it was illegal. Notably, the MRTP Act lays down a time period of two years, extendable by 12 months, for publishing DP. Patil alleged that the administrator did nothing for about 15 months after the end of Covid restrictions in April 2022. He pointed out that the MRTP Act lays down that if time fixed for doing anything lapses, the planning authority is deemed to have failed and remaining work shall be automatically transferred to authority mentioned under the provisions of the Act. Kunal Muley, deputy director of Town Planning, in his affidavit stated that the Constitution of India specifically states that every municipality, unless sooner dissolved, shall continue for five years from the date of appointment. He clarified that the TMC had resumed its duties as administrator immediately after the expiry of the prescribed term on March 5, 2022. Muley further submitted that the DP expired on June 16, 2023. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the computing period in publishing the DP should be calculated after deducting the period of pandemic - 287 days (from June 17, 2021 to March 31, 2022), which was specifically informed by the state government on October 21, 2022. Since the DP could not be published within the time limit - March 31, 2024 - the TMC sought extension of the original time limit by a year, which was granted till January 19, 2025. After considering the environmental impact, the TMC successfully completed the preparation of the DP and published it on October 11, 2024. Praying for the dismissal of the petition, Muley concluded, 'All statutory provisions in respect of preparation of draft development plan have been duly followed by the corporation and there is no lacuna on its part. The petitioner had failed to consider the various provisions of the Act and filed the petition on misconceived fact'.

'Get your act together!' Donald Trump blasts internet service provider AT&T after delay in religious call; says he ‘will use another carrier next time'
US President Donald Trump The United States President, on Monday afternoon, expressed frustration online regarding his telecommunications service provider and said, "AT&T ought to get its act together." Donald Trump posted on Truth Social about his inability to commence a conference call with religious leaders nationwide due to technical issues. "AT&T is totally unable to make their equipment work properly," the Republican president said in a post. "This is the second time it's happened. If the Boss of AT&T, whoever that may be, could get involved — It would be good. There are tens of thousands of people on the line!" Subsequently, Trump posted, "AT&T ought to get its act together." AT&T representatives responded to the White House press secretary's post about Trump's concerns. "We've reached out to the White House and are working to quickly understand and assess the situation," AT&T stated. According to an anonymous White House official unauthorised to speak publicly, AT&T responded immediately. The issue was resolved, resulting in a 20-minute delay to the call. AT&T released a statement on X on Monday night explaining that "the disruption was caused by an issue with the conference call platform, not our network. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Unfortunately, this caused the delay, and we are working diligently to better understand the issue so we can prevent disruptions in the future." Trump frequently expresses his grievances on social media, targeting various entities from foreign leaders to media organisations. The delayed call was not listed on his official schedule. The call included 8,000 to 10,000 Christian, Jewish and Muslim faith leaders, marking the first in a series of regular White House communications with religious leaders. During the 15-minute call, the official noted that Trump discussed his tax reduction and spending cuts legislation, child tax credit improvements, the Israel-Iran ceasefire, African peace agreements, and his pardons for anti-abortion activists.
