Conjoined twins graduate with honours, aim for CA
1 2 Hyderabad: Veena and Vani, 22-year-old conjoined twins from Hyderabad, have successfully completed their BCom degree with distinction and are now preparing to pursue their dream of becoming chartered accountants. Speaking to STOI, Safiya Khanam, Superintendent of Balasadanam, a state-run home under the Women and Child Welfare Department, said the twins have always been focused and determined. "They knew from an early age that mobility would be a challenge and that they might not be able to work outside the home like others. But they never let that discourage them. Instead, they chose to pursue chartered accountancy, a profession they believe can be practised from home while still achieving financial independence," she said. "They actually began preparing for the CA course before starting their degree. But along the way, they realised it was too difficult to manage both. Now that they've completed their degrees, they will devote their full attention to CA preparation." When asked about the challenges they faced, Safiya remarked, "That's the remarkable part, they never viewed anything as a challenge. They simply wanted to study and live like any other child. They never complained or used their condition as an excuse." What has always stood out to those close to the twins is their quiet determination and the way they support each other in everyday tasks. "For instance, since their heads are joined and they face slightly different directions, even something as basic as reading or writing requires coordination. But they instinctively adjust their posture so both can see and work comfortably. It's small gestures like these that show how deeply committed they are," she added. Veena and Vani love reading and are constantly working to improve their English pronunciation, learning new words each day. "I have no doubt they'll achieve their dreams, they'll make brilliant chartered accountants," Safiya said.
