Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday demanded that Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah apologise to the country's scientists and pharmaceutical sector for his recent remarks linking COVID-19 vaccines to a spate of heart attack deaths in the state and questioned whether he was "running the agenda of foreign forces".Accusing the Chief Minister of "insulting" India's scientists, startups, and its pharmaceutical strength, Goyal said his comments undermine the people who worked tirelessly during the pandemic.According to Goyal, it is "unfortunate" that such remarks are coming from the CM of a country that is known as the 'pharmacy of the world', a country where our startups are expanding and forming an ecosystem, a country where our vaccines were exported on a large scale to other nations. This was possible only because our pharmaceutical companies had the strength and innovation to produce vaccines at a cost of less than Rs 100, he told reporters here.Lauding the pharmaceutical companies, he said they made India proud."We didn't just roll out one vaccine, but two. The country was able to provide free vaccines to our entire population... He insulted our scientists and pharmaceutical companies," he claimed."Is he running the agenda of foreign forces that want to harm India's pharmaceutical sector, disturbed by India's financial growth? Whether it is the Congress party, the CM, or all their partners, do they want to strengthen the hands of foreign forces by demeaning India? He should answer and apologise to our scientists and pharmaceutical companies," he further alleged.Earlier, addressing the IIT Madras Alumni Association's Sangam 2025 event here, he added that Siddaramaiah does not take pride in India's success or its startups and scientists. Instead, he is "ashamed of India and its startups achieving such remarkable success."He credited Bharat Biotech for developing India's first indigenous COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin , and Oxford-AstraZeneca for granting rights to produce Covishield at Pune-based Serum Institute of India "We were not only able to provide 2.5 billion vaccines free of charge to all our citizens, but also supplied vaccines to over 100 nations, particularly less developed or developing countries that otherwise had no protection against this disease," he said.Goyal pointed out that even today, India is being thanked for the medicines and vaccines it provided to other nations during the pandemic."They (Congress) want to run down India's success stories, and it pains us when we hear this kind of negativity coming from certain sections of society," he alleged.Neither the Congress nor Siddaramaiah has responded to Goyal's claims so far.

"Only one who stands firm during adversity is a real leader": Maharashtra CM Fadnavis lauds Pune MP Mohol

Pune (Maharashtra) [India], July 13 (ANI): Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has praised Pune MP and Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, Murlidhar Mohol, calling him a 'real leader' who remained active during tough times. 'Only the one who stands firm during adversity is a real leader,' Fadnavis said while speaking at the launch of MP Mohol's 24/7 Public Outreach Office and the release of his one-year performance report and book Pratham Manus, based on his COVID-era experiences. The event was held at Balgandharva Rangmandir in Pune on Saturday. Fadnavis praised the BJP for giving chances to dedicated party workers, saying Mohol had shown consistent commitment in both political and administrative roles. He also spoke about Mohol's efforts during the COVID-19 crisis as the Mayor of Pune. 'He remained calm and persistent throughout the crisis, which created his distinct identity,' said Fadnavis. The newly inaugurated 24/7 Public Office is located at JM Road in Pune. Fadnavis said that very few MPs in the country have a public outreach office that is open all day, every day. He also mentioned that Mohol was unanimously chosen to succeed the late Girish Bapat and is now working closely with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. 'After becoming MP, he was entrusted with a significant portfolio and now works closely with PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah,' he said. 'Amit Shah personally praised Mohol as a disciplined and studious leader with a bright future.' Fadnavis also announced that 12 forts of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj from Maharashtra have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list. 'These forts reflect exceptional architectural style and rich Maratha history. Now, they will gain global academic and tourism attention,' he said. He further gave updates on key infrastructure projects, including the 'missing link' on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway. Once complete, it will reduce travel time by 30 minutes and feature a 9-km tunnel--the longest in India--and the tallest cable-stayed bridge in the country. He added that the second international airport for Pune is progressing well, while the Navi Mumbai airport is nearing completion. Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol thanked citizens and party leaders for their support. Presenting his one-year report, he said, 'The people of Pune gave me an opportunity, and I have tried to deliver honestly.' Speaking about the pandemic, Mohol said he remained connected with the public through social media for 28 months. His book Pratham Manus (First Person) captures both positive and difficult moments from that period. 'Rambhau Mhalgi once set an example by presenting a work report to the people, and I've followed the same tradition,' he added. Mohol said the new public office would serve as a 'one-stop solution' to help citizens access various government schemes. 'When I became a minister, it was hard to believe at first. But with the party's and my colleagues' trust, I've worked with full responsibility,' he said. Recounting his first meeting with PM Modi after taking oath, Mohol shared how the Prime Minister asked detailed questions about their ministries' responsibilities and was well-aware of incidents like the recent Delhi airport roof collapse. 'This reflects the intense vigilance and commitment of the central leadership,' Mohol said. He affirmed his dedication to fulfilling the responsibilities of the Cooperation Ministry under the guidance of Home Minister Amit Shah. (ANI)

"Congress means rule of licenses, permits, and quotas": BJP's Nishikant Dubey

New Delhi [India], July 13 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey on Sunday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and accused the Congress party of having close ties with big businessmen during their time in power. Dubey referred to an incident from 1971 during the tenure of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi's grandmother, alleging that only one company, Tata, was awarded the responsibility of manufacturing chemicals. In a post on X, Dubey wrote, 'Rahul Gandhi ji, your Congress and its collusion with businessmen, having a blast. Wasn't it your grandmother Indira ji who was perhaps the Prime Minister, June 2, 1971, in Parliament, when the responsibility for making chemicals was given to only one company, Tata?' He further alleged that the Congress party ruled the country through a system of 'licenses, permits, and quotas', saying, 'Congress means the rule of licenses, permits, and quotas. The dark truth of the Gandhi family.' Dubey's remarks come after Rahul Gandhi's repeated claims of the BJP's links with business Conglomerates Earlier on Friday, while addressing a public rally in Bhubaneswar, Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP-led Odisha government of 'stealing the wealth' from poor people. 'The Government of Odisha has just one work--to steal the wealth of Odisha from the hands of the poor people of the state... Earlier, the BJD Government did this and now the BJP Government is doing this. On one side, there is the poor public of Odisha, Dalits, tribals, the backward class, farmers and labourers, and on the other side, there are 5-6 billionaires and the BJP Government. This fight is going on. Only the Congress workers, along with the people of Odisha, can win this fight; no one else,' he said. The Congress MP also alleged that chariots of Lord Jagannath were halted during the Rath Yatra for industrialist Gautam Adani. 'Adani runs the Odisha Government; Adani runs Narendra Modi. When Jagannath Yatra is taken out in Odisha, when the Jagannath Yatra chariots are pulled, lakhs of people witness it and follow it. Then, a drama takes place--the chariots are stopped for Adani and his family. This will make you understand everything about the Government of Odisha,' he alleged. (ANI)
