FORMER Rangers goalkeeper coach Colin Stewart has landed a plum new job - at Premier League champions Liverpool.
The son of legendary former Gers goalie coach Jim - who worked with Walter Smith for many years - Stewart was promoted to the position of first team goalkeeping coach by Graham Murty from a position in the academy ranks.

He then helped Steven Gerrard win back the Scottish top flight title and worked under the likes of Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Philippe Clement before leaving the club after the departure of the Belgian in February.
But he's just been appointed the new goalkeeper development and pathway lead at Anfield.
He will be reunited with former Ibrox gaffer Van Bronckhorst, who recently took up a high-powered job as one of Arne Slot's assistants.
Prior to entering coaching, Stewart - husband of Scotland Women's star Julie Fleeting - served many clubs including Kilmarnock, Ross County, Partick Thistle and Morton.
Liverpool wrote in a statement: "Colin Stewart has joined Liverpool's coaching staff as the new goalkeeper development and pathway lead.
"The Scot links up with Arne Slot's backroom team after nine years with Glasgow Rangers.
"His first two years with Rangers were spent at the helm of the club's academy goalkeeping programme, before being promoted to the role of first-team goalkeeper coach, in which he served for the past seven years.
"Stewart, a former professional goalkeeper himself, also worked with the Scottish FA for more than a decade as a goalkeeping coach educator, delivering relevant courses across the country.
"Now, he will support Xavi Valero – back at Liverpool as head of first-team goalkeeper coaching – on a daily basis in working with the Reds' senior stoppers on and off the pitch.
"Additionally, Stewart will oversee the loan strategies of goalkeepers who are in the process of making the step up from youth level to senior experience, serving as a link between the men's squad, loan management team and U21s group."

David de Gea sends Man Utd message as goalkeeper prepares for Old Trafford return
Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea spent more than a decade with Manchester United but left the club in 2023 when Erik ten Hag was in charge at the Premier League club Manchester United will welcome goalkeeper David de Gea back to Old Trafford this weekend, two years after he left the club. And the Spaniard has sent a message to fans aead of his return. The former Atletico Madrid star saw his contract expire in 2023, joining Fiorentina a full year later. The Viola are due in Manchester on Saturday for what will be United's final warm-up game ahead of the new season - a year to the day after De Gea moved to Tuscany. "United Road. See you Saturday," De Gea wrote on social media. The keeper's comments were met with positivity from United supporters, some of whom even suggested he'd be preferable to the English side's current options in the home goal. "Right after the game, we won't let you out of Old Trafford. Fiorentina can go with [Andre] Onana," one supporter wrote under De Gea's message. "Welcome home Dave," wrote a second, with a third saying: "We miss you". "Will be great seeing you play again. Terrible how our club treat you," was the verdict from a fourth. De Gea's former club are looking to round off an unbeaten pre-season campaign by getting the better of Fiorentina. After a goalless draw with Leeds in Stockholm, Ruben Amorim's team claimed two wins and a draw in the Premier League Summer Series in the United States. There was room for improvement in the last of those games, a 2-2 draw with Everton, which prompted captain Bruno Fernandes to ask questions. Ruben Amorim's side will now hope to go out with a bang before beginning their Premier League campaign against Arsenal on August 17. United could find themselves without first-choice keeper Onana for the weekend friendly. The Cameroon international has been working his way back from injury and is optimistic about returning for the league opener, but the Fiorentina match-up may still come too early. "l'm good, I feel great," Onana told NBC during United's spell in the US. "It's been a few difficult weeks but yeah, hopefully, I will be back for the start of the season. I'm enjoying the training with my guys and we are looking forward." Reflecting on the tour, he added: "We're happy with the way things are going. We play well, score goals and I'm happy how the team is developing themselves. Let's see. I think it's going to be important to have a good start against Arsenal and then everything is possible."

Pep Guardiola tells Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers what he wants to hear about Simpson-Pusey as 'trust' made crystal clear
Rodgers knows Guardiola trusts Simpson-Pusey implicitly and you don't have to look far for cold hard proof of that Brendan Rodgers hinted Pep Guardiola's 'trust' in Jahmai Simpson-Pusey may have been one of the driving factors behind Celtic's decision to bring him in. And there's no denying the Man City boss rates the youngster after he delivered a public glowing verdict on the 'unbelievable' 19-year-old. The centre-back arrives at Parkhead after something of a breakthrough season at the Etihad where he managed six top-team appearances, which included starts in the Premier League and Champions League. on top of a number of cup outings. That experience with some of the best players in the world made it a no-brainer for Rodgers to bring him in and, speaking to Sky Sports, he admitted the faith shown by Guardiola in him last season made it an easy decision to bring him in. Rodgers said: "He's a young player that I feel can come into this environment and really support us in the games that we play. "We need a number of centre halves and he is one, with his profile and attributes that fit how we play. "He has got good pace. He is a good defender first and foremost but he can also play football because at Celtic, you need to be able to build the game from behind and progress it quickly. He can do that. "He has had some senior games with Manchester City and has had the trust of Pep (Guardiola) to put him in. Now he comes here for a year and continues that education at a massive club." And you don't need to look far for a sign of that 'trust' Rodgers is referring to. Simpson-Pusey is fancied to have a big future and, if Guardiola is to be believed, then it's a major coup for Celtic to bring him in. He threw him in for his Premier League debut against Brighton back in November, having previously started him against Sporting CP in the Champions League. City, struggling for form, lost that game 2-1. But Simpson-Pusey was one of the bright spots as he looked capable beside Josko Gvardiol and Kyle Walker in the back line. Speaking after the game, Guardiola said: 'Jahmai Simpson-Pusey played really good again, with this composure – the duels, everything was good. We have a central defender to help us for the next years. 'I'm really pleased. Always, there is good news when a situation is going bad – and this is one of them. It's not easy for him. 'Normally, the young lads come in with the support of the team – Rodri in front of them, the best Kyle Walker and other defenders. He's playing in a position that is difficult for him, and he performed unbelievably.' Union Bears scrap Rangers tifo for Champions League clash as ultras group issue statement
Gers welcome Viktoria Plzen in the first leg of their third round qualifying encounter The Union Bears have confirmed that they have shelved plans for a tifo display at Ibrox tonight ahead of Rangers' Champions League showdown with Viktoria Plzen due to the effects of Storm Floris. Russell Martin 's men take on the Czech side in the first leg of their third round qualifying showdown before travelling to the continent for the return fixture in eight days time. Should they emerge victorious over two legs, then they will face the winner of the tie between Club Brugge and Red Bull Salzburg for a place in the main section of the Champions League, which could see the club bank up to as much as £40million. However, the players will not be welcomed onto a pitch by a huge tifo from the Broomloan Stand after the Union Bears reluctantly pulled the plug on the display. Their statement on X read: "Due to the wind/adverse weather we are reluctantly pulling tonight's planned tifo. "After weeks of work this decision is the last thing we wanted but we've been left with no choice. "In the absence of a tifo we urge all fans heading to Ibrox tonight bring a scarf and more importantly bring the noise and back the team right from the start. Martin is looking for a quickfire response from his players after tearing into them in the wake of Saturday's 1-1 draw at Fir Park in their Premiership opener with Motherwell. The former Southampton boss will welcome new signing Oliver Antman into the squad after he rubber-stamped a £4million switch from Go Ahead Eagles on Sunday. Rangers will however be without fellow new recruit Mikey Moore after the Tottenham loanee's paperwork to get the green-light from UEFA wasn't processed in time for the game because of his under 18 status. Norway international Thelo Aasgaard will still have to wait for his official Light Blues debut as he continues his recovery from an injury while striker Hamza Igamane has also been ruled out of the first leg clash against the Czechs.
