Adelaide fear for young gun after win over Melbourne
The Crows recovered from a 28-point deficit midway through the second term to win 13.12 (90) to 11.11 (77) at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.
But Rachele suffered a potential season-ending injury, with Adelaide fearful the goalsneak damaged the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
Rachele will have scans after hyper-extending the knee when landing awkwardly in a marking contest against Jake Bowey late the second quarter.
The blow to the Crow came as his club banked an 11th win of the season and returned to third spot on the ladder.
But Adelaide were forced to dig deep against the plucky 14th-placed Demons (five wins, 11 losses).
The hosts led by three points at quarter-time after Melbourne blew a series of goal chances, kicking 1.6 to the Crows' 2.3 in the term.
But the Demons then produced a sizzling 10-minute burst in the second quarter which was rewarded with five consecutive goals.
The last in the scoring stretch, from Kysiah Pickett after soaring high for a pack mark, gave the visitors a 28-point advantage 12 minutes into the quarter.
Adelaide responded with three successive goals - two more from Rankine and Taylor Walker's second for the game.
The strikes reduced Adelaide's deficit to five points at halftime when the visitors led 6.7 to 5.8.
Melbourne's advantage disappeared just 40 seconds into the third quarter when Ben Keays dribbled a goal to put the Crows in front. They were never headed.
Keays' goal was followed by another pair from the brilliant Rankine as the Crows logged five goals to two for a 15-point lead at the last break.
Melbourne twice sneaked within nine points in the final quarter but couldn't edge closer.
Rankine was superb and key forwards Walker and Darcy Fogarty scored two goals apiece.
Adelaide captain Jordan Dawson (25 disposals) and workhorse Keays (23 touches, two goals) were standouts, alongside midfielders James Peatling (25 possessions) and Jake Soligo (21).
Melbourne ace Pickett's two goals came from 24 possessions, Jake Melksham was ever-threatening with four majors and Jacob van Rooyen kicked two.
The Demons were also well served by winger Ed Langdon (25 disposals) and Steven May (12 marks), while former skipper Jack Viney gathered a match-high 30 disposals and laid nine tackles.

Melbourne-born Oscar Piastri's win at the Belgium Grand Prix all but seals his record. He's already arguably the best Formula One driver in Australian history. It comes as his home Grand Prix in Australia eyes some major changes designed to accommodate soaring crowd numbers. Dijana Damjanovic prepared this report. Oscar Piastri: Yeah, I got a good exit of turn one and then, yeah, lifted as little as I did through Eau Rouge and, yeah, then that it was enough. We had it mostly under control. Turns out starting second at Spa's not too bad after all. Dijana Damjanovic: After a disappointing first day performance in Belgium, Piastri turned the tables in a first lap masterstroke on day two, passing teammate and first placed Lando Norris, and he hung on. Matt Cooch is an F1 journalist. Matt Cooch: We had to wait something like 80 minutes for that because of rain delays and all sorts of things. But once the race got going, he tucked himself in behind Lando Norris, his McLaren teammate, got the slipstream and then made the move happen at the first time of asking and from there on controlled the race. Really beautifully resisted pressure as it built through the final third of the race and brought home another fantastic win. Dijana Damjanovic: This latest win is Piastri's sixth for the 2025 season, breaking the record for most wins by an Australian driver in a single Formula One season. Jack Brabham won five races when he won the second of his three world championships in 1960. Alan Jones equalled Brabham's mark in 1980, but now Oscar Piastri has surpassed them both. Stephen Ottley: And so I think this is really just the inevitable outcome of an incredibly talented young man who's going to, I think, have a very long and successful career in Formula One. Dijana Damjanovic: Piastri also now has as many race career wins as Australian racing star Daniel Ricciardo. Stephen Ottley is the editor of Talk Cafe, an online automotive magazine. He says Piastri could be coming to the Australian Grand Prix in March next year as the world champion. Stephen Ottley: I think that's only going to drive more interest and it's only going to drive more spectators and you're going to need to, you know, the organisers are going to need to accommodate that. Dijana Damjanovic: As the sport grows in Australia with spectator numbers on the rise, the Victorian government is also looking to make changes to the Melbourne Grand Prix Race Festival. It's now seeking feedback on extending the race period from seven days to three weeks to give organisers more time to set up race infrastructure. Stephen Ottley says as a spectator himself, the change is needed. Stephen Ottley: The scale of it in the last few years that I've been is enormous. The bridges, all those kind of infrastructure, I think, need to be expanded so we can get more people in and in a more comfortable and safer way. Dijana Damjanovic: And to the tournament underway, the F1 heads to Hungary this weekend. The same track Oscar Piastri got his first ever victory last season. A rain-soaked Morphettville was shrouded in gloom on Saturday, but Rochelle Milnes shone brightly. It was a third Lightning Stakes win for trainer Will Clarken, and first for co-trainer Niki O'Shea, and proved the icing on the cake for Milnes, who announced herself as a rising star of Australian racing. Lingani, who won last year's Lightning Stakes, relished it, giving her rivals a thrashing in an Open Handicap (1050m). The speedy mare bounced back to form under a smart steer from Taylor Johnstone, who kept her handy in third, breezing past frontrunner The Gov inside the final 200m. Lingani powered to a remarkable seven-length win, making it three from three on heavy going, as trainers Peter and Belinda Blanch set her for the Group 3 Behemoth Stakes (1200m) on August 9. Nikita Tszyu next fight date revealed
Nikita Tszyu will make his long awaited return to the ring on August 20, nearly exactly a year after his last fight, and just in time for a proposed showdown with Michael Zerafa later in the year. Tszyu has been out of action since his August 28, 2024 fight of the year win over Koen Mazoudier. The 27-year-old had surgery on tendons in his hand following that dramatic ninth round stoppage win, and suffered a series of setbacks in his recovery. Tszyu then welcomed the birth of his first child, a daughter named Curiosity, last week, but will be fit and firing to return next month. Tszyu hasn't fought since his win over Koen Mazoudier last August. Picture: No Limit Boxing Tszyu has been linked to a fight with Zerafa later in the year. That bout would likely be at middleweight, with Zerafa eyeing up a WBA world title fight if he wins. It has been a hectic year for Nikita already. 'The Butcher' was married in a lowkey ceremony in January, and was initially scheduled to return to the ring in May in Sydney, before those plans were shelved. He was then slated to fight in Cairns last week, but that was put on ice as well. Instead, Nikita will fight exactly one month after older brother Tim's must-win world title rematch against Sebastian Fundora in Las Vegas. No opponent has been confirmed, but several names are in the mix. Meanwhile, Melbourne and Sydney are possible destinations the fight could be held.
