'The huge increase in the salaries and financial incentives for the speaker, deputy speaker, chairman Senate, and deputy chairman Senate falls under the category of financial obscenity.

Meanwhile, during the post-budget press conference on Wednesday, Finance Minister Muhammad Auranzgeb defended the sharp increase in the monthly salary of lawmakers.
'If we talk about raising salaries of government employees, then ministers' salaries should also be reviewed.'
He pointed out that the salaries of the Senate chairman, deputy chairman, National Assembly speaker, and deputy speaker were recently increased.
When questioned about whether their salaries had been raised from Rs250,000 to Rs2.15 million per month, the minister remarked that the focus should be on when ministers, ministers of state, and parliamentarians last received a salary adjustment.
'The cabinet ministers' salaries were last increased in 2016. If a salary raise had been made annually, the recent hike would not seem so high,' he explained.
The government in its budget presentation also announced a 10% increase in salaries for federal government employees (Grade-1 to Grade-22) and a 7% increase in pensions for retired government servants.
However, it decided to keep the minimum wage unchanged in the budget for the financial year 2025-26, saying it would remain at Rs37,000 per month.
The decision to keep the minimum wage unchanged comes despite calls from some public and political quarters.

In the aftermath of the ruckus on the assembly floor, Speaker Malik had initially come out fuming against 26 Punjab Assembly members, making a case for their disqualification. To give the disqualification bid legal cover, it was reported that applications were submitted to the speaker's office demanding action against the 26 lawmakers. While visiting the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) headquarters — where he was widely misquoted by mainstream and legacy media as having filed a reference against the lawmakers — the speaker, while remaining vague about the reference's status, said the members' actions had violated their oath. At the time, he had said such MPAs, whether from the opposition or treasury benches, had no right to remain in the House. When asked in Islamabad whether he should have shown restraint, the speaker responded bluntly that his role was to maintain order in the House. He conceded the disqualification attempt was his own initiative. Referring to the oath violation, he said he would "fight for the honour of the Constitution" and that "whoever becomes a casualty in this fight would have only their fate to blame". Speaker Malik remained one of the most vocal proponents of disqualifying the involved members. It is pertinent to mention that The Express Tribune had earlier reported that legal experts did not see merit in the speaker's contention that members could be disqualified merely for disorderly conduct. The newspaper had also reported that the speaker had floated the idea of disqualification as a means to gain leverage over opposition lawmakers, using the threat as a smokescreen, particularly given the legal complications and consequences of such a move. Now, with his new position — asking his party members to first establish in court that a grave violation occurred before he can take cognisance — the speaker appears inconsistent with his earlier stance. It was revealed that by recording his view in writing, the speaker aimed to extricate himself from the controversy surrounding the disqualification reference. However, it was noted that the speaker had overplayed his hand. One source said that a provincial minister should have taken the lead in advocating for disqualification publicly to make it clear they were acting based on the Panama judgment.

BNP's Mengal off-loaded from Dubai flight
BNP chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal was off-loaded from a Dubai-bound flight on Sunday as his name was included in a no-fly list. Taking to his X handle, the BNP chief wrote that he was offloaded from the aircraft by immigration staff when traveling from Quetta to Dubai. He added that he was informed that his name had been put in provisional national identification list (PNIL). Mengal also shared a screenshot of his ticket, immigration counter and the PNIL notepad, which says, "Prevent from leaving abroad." Following the episode, people from different walks of life condemned the incident as Senator Sana Ullah Baloch stated, "We strongly condemn the arbitrary and politically motivated restriction imposed on Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal, Member of National Assembly and former Chief Minister Balochistan, who was offloaded from his Dubai-bound flight at Quetta airport by immigration authorities." "According to Mr. Mengal, he was informed that his name has been placed on the Provisional National Identification List (PNIL)a deeply concerning act that undermines his constitutional right to freedom of movement guaranteed under Article 15 of the Constitution of Pakistan," he added. "Such measures not only violate the law and spirit of democratic values but also reflect the continued erosion of civil liberties."

Over the past four days, the zoo has recorded a total income of Rs13.569 million, with more than 135,000 people visiting the facility. The zoo had previously been managed by a private contractor responsible for ticketing, parking, and other facilities. However, on July 16, the contractor relinquished the contract, prompting the zoo administration to assume full control. Since then, the administration has introduced a 50 per cent discount on tickets for several attractions, including the Reptile House, which has contributed to a steady rise in daily footfall. Speaking to the media, Zoo Director Asim Cheema said that the increasing number of visitors reflected the public's renewed trust and growing popularity of the facility as an affordable and family-friendly recreational venue. He credited the boost in revenue and attendance to better management practices, transparency, online ticketing systems, improved parking, and a welcoming environment for families. According to the zoo's record, July 17 brought in Rs618,000 in revenue, including income from ticket sales, the Snake House, and parking. On July 18, earnings were recorded at Rs535,880. By July 19, interest had surged significantly, resulting in a total income of Rs984,010. The upward trend peaked on Sunday, when the zoo registered its highest single-day revenue in recent times, reaching Rs1.731 million. The administration also revealed that several key attractionsincluding the Hall of Wonders, virtual and mixed reality experiences, and the aquariumwill soon be reactivated. The features, currently under preparation, are expected to help increase the revenue in the coming weeks.
